But if you're looking for a name for the Dragon Age world, in IP fashion? It's Thedas. If there are some other settings that go so far as to give a different name to their planet, that's super.

The world is called Thedas. And, yes, that is also the continent -- for most of the inhabitants, that IS the world. They don't have a concept of the world like you or I do, like it's a planet. Even the name for our own planet -- Earth -- comes from our word for the ground under our feet, remember.

Called it!

It seems like a huge oversight, how can we not haven amed our solar system, but as pointed out, "Earth" just means dirt. It's a name now, but before it was just the extent of our conception. You would think at least astronomers would have named our system, but as far as I can tell, it hasn't happened.
It's likely we would just name our system "Solar." Just like "The Earth" went from meaning just that which we walk on to our planet's name, "The 'Solar' System" may go from meaning this cluster of space junk, to "The system named Solar"

It's not particularily original, but that's what it is.

"Sol" *is* the official name for our system.
It's not particularily original, but that's what it is.
Officially, "Sol" is just another word fro "Sun" and "Sun" is the name of our star. So by extention, our system can be called the "Sol" system, but more accurately would be called the "Sun" System, because that's what we've named our star.
But we still consider "Sun" to just be a name for *A* star, not specifically OUR star. When describing Tatooine for example, most people would say it has two "Suns", but in fact it has two stars with their own names.
So, as far as popular language is concerned, we do not have a unique name for our system, because we haven't yet declared "Sun" to mean specifically OUR star.
Likely, one of these words will become our system's name. When we start to address the world in terms of star systems, we'll have a more concrete name, likely "The Sun System", "The Sol System", or "The Solar System," but for now it's just not appropriately defined.

Whats the name of the planet/world that Dragon Age is set in? So far theyve only said the name of one country Ferelden.Im pretty sure thats just one kingdom and not the name of the whole world.Am I right?
Im a noob so forgive me if this is an obvious question thats been said before. And would this count as a spoiler question? If so than sorry about putting it in the wrong section
Fereleden is flat and if you go too far, you fall off the edge into nothing. Speaking of planets/worlds is heresy.

In general it's only really used in astronomy and, well, science-fiction as of course there's no immediate need to regard our world in terms of star systems.
Will we get another name? Who knows. If we end up being called something stupid like Kleevash III I'm leaving for Alpha Centauri.

Yes, named after it, not the same

No.
Not really.
Let me guess, you were told that this myth was created by evil scientists?

This is a pretty common device in fantasy. Tolkien's Arda, after all, was merely Earth in an age long-forgotten (Middle Earth being Europe). Conan the Barbarian takes place in Europe, Africa, and Asia in a an age long-past (dried up Mediterranean being its most defining difference - which actually did happen in real life, actually).

If you know history then you know what the Dark Ages were?
