To clarify,
Scylla was correct and I was correct. Scylla's answer was more broadly based in that if you modify your SP and it has no game changing effects to your/others multiplayer experience (say for example, granting you x amount of credits or making a weapon x times more powerful) then there is no problem with this. My answer was poorly worded and I apologize for that - I was aiming to answer a couple questions I had received via PM (the same two questions from many different users) as well as support what Scylla said.
As mentioned by Scylla, you will not be banned for modifying your files *unless (and this is where my intention was) they give you an unfair advantage in any multiplayer aspect of the game.
Good to know, thanks!
Now when can we get clarification on the EMS thingy?
Which EMS thing? :3
If you guys and gals ever have ANY questions about anything please do not hesitate to ask. Sometimes (like I did) we don't think of our post in the entire context of a thread, and this is the internet... it's not like things get taken out of context or blown out of porpotion on the internet of all places right?
I'm going to go grab a cupcake, I'll be right back and answer/clarify anything else in relation to this thread
The EMS thingy is as follows:
Bioware told us specifically that we would not have to play MP to get the best ending.
Most of us see the best ending as one where Shepard lives- Destroy Ending with 4000 EMS. Yet the highest we have been able to confirm as reachable without playing MP is ~3800 Effective Military Strength.
Thus, we can unlock Synthesis- so we're thinking that BW assumes the "best" ending is the Synthesis ending- but many of us don't consider that the best ending when we can get Shepard surviving. Presumably, at least, since we see him/her take a breath in the rubble on... Earth? Not sure where exactly, since I don't know how s/he would have survived atmospheric re-entry... but that's a different argument.
TL;DR- We need 4000 EMS to get what most people consider the best ending. This doesn't appear to be possible without MP. So, did BW just consider Synthesis to be the best ending, or is it actually possible to get 4000 EMS without playing MP and we're all just missing something?
That sounds really odd - I specifically recall testing something similar to this early in the new year and all the tests passed. I'm at home for the day but when I get in to work tomorrow I'll take a good hard look (if you want to follow up please do so via PM/seperate thread).

Please remember also that "Promoted N7" characters add to that score even though you could have a 50% Galactic Rediness score.Thomas Abram wrote...

So you should base your calculations without that score. I also believe that some of the EMS score may be based on the events of the past two games (not sure, correct me if I'm wrong). I wouldn't want to have to replay the other two games in order to gain the best ending (some players don't have all three games).
Again with the later, correct me if I am wrong.

Let's keep this thread to discussing ME3 modding- If you would like to discuss the EMS cap please PM me.

Or you could just come to one of the many threads discussing this topic. I'd recommend http://social.biowar...ndex/10481662/1 or http://social.biowar...ndex/10775764/1. They seem the most active to me at the moment, and would be happy to see someone from BioWare give any feedback on this a little more constructive than "We're not lying. LOCKDOWN".

They are fully within their rights to do this. Despite what people have posted above, you have not bought the software and you do not own it. What you have bought is a nonexclusive license to use the software as EA may dictate. The EULA includes the following:
"Your right to use the Software is limited to the license grant above, and you may not otherwise copy, display, seek to disable, distribute, perform, publish, modify, create works from, or use the Software or any component of it, except as expressly authorized by EA."
Also the following:
"Your rights under this License will terminate immediately and automatically without any notice from EA if you fail to comply with any of the terms and conditions of this License. Promptly upon termination, you must cease all use of the Software and destroy all copies of the Software in your possession or control."
Technically, they have the right to totally disable your copy of the software if you alter it in any way.
Keep telling yourself that, and watch as EA tramples all over your rights as a consumer.
You DO own the disc you bought, and (for all intensive purposes) you have the right to use any and all content on the disc. The whole EULA is a nonsensical, illogical agreement that will likely be shot down in the future once enough players get up in arms about it. No two countries have the same stance regarding the usage of EULA's (many countries' copyright laws allow you to make a copy for personal backup use, others treat EULA's as a joke, etc.).
Again, this all goes back to EA nickel-and-diming for content that's already on the disc. Did you buy the CE? Half that content (all CE weapons besides the Particle Rifle, Javik's character model/voice files/skill tree for the main game) is on disc. So are all the pre-order bonuses (N7 Warfare Gear, the Kingdoms of Amalur bonuses, all the pre-order guns). I don't get to mod my game because the company that produced it decided I don't get full access to the disc I paid for? That's complete bull, and you know it.
You've already seen the storm that's started due to Capcom's stance on this very same issue. They tried to defend the fact that all of the DLC characters are locked on-disc by pretending the consumer doesn't know any better and that they're justified hiding it behind a glorified unlock key. Now people are complaining en masse to the BBB, and their public reputation (and business) is going down the toilet.
That extends to modding. I truly believe Bioware/EA didn't think this whole thing through fully when they decided to add multiplayer. As others can attest to, changing weapon values in single-player can affect multiplayer weapons. People have been banned from single-player content for unknowingly playing on modded servers, and then being told by BW reps that they have to somehow figure out not to spend the "hacked" portion of their credits (which is impossible in the first place). Origin (which is glorified malware) continually scans your system for changes to its games' Coalesced files, and still maintains a presence on the computer after being deleted. That infringes upon my rights as a consumer.
If you really think a weak EULA is going to stop people from modding the content on their disc, you're dead wrong.

Will a mod boosting my EMS score get me banned?
If so, why? As I understand it EMS only relates to the single-player game and has absolutely zip to do with multiplayer, except for multiplayer results being one of the factors that could potentially feed into it.

Seeing as modding EMS only affects SP, and has no effect on MP. It should not get you banned.

I for one would really like to see an answer for this. Console level FOV's give me a headache.

Does disconnecting the Revive functionality from the Cover functionality to another key count as an "unfair advantage in multiplayer aspect"? I mean, it's nice if you start reviving the person, and not just end up being in Cover 3 times then get shot to death by the nearby cannibals.

I feel any modification to single player, even if it's blatant cheating, shold be permissible. Without question, no ands ifs or buts about it. Without modding we would never have see. A game called counter strike. The Elder Scrolls community also has a strong modding presence. There are some great mods for oblivion and soon to be for skyrim. Mass effect, or better yet, dragon age, would be -lucky- to have mods on par with what's around for TES.
Bottom line: modders are people you should be -hiring-, not banning. Heh.
As far as modding to cheat in multiplayer... It shouldn't be feasible. I'm a console player, so I don't know the internals of the game. But storing gun (DMG, speed, ammo) and character (shields, health) details locally instead of server side just seems to me like a bad idea. It's like asking for cheaters and trouble makers. Expect abuse.. A game called combat arms made that mistake and they saw people flying around in god mode with infinite ammo and health. Counter strike never saw cheaters beyond wall hacks and aimbots: for good reason. A little foresight helped when they made things unabusable client side.

My original installation was about 7 GB of space. My current installation is about 20GB.
For clarification, I'm stil the most important english-spanish translator for Fallout 3.
I think they should authorize modding in some ways. Bethesda does it, and their games are more tastefull. I've been playing Fallout 3 for TWO YEARS. I've paid everything they gave the players.
No checks, no bans, no nothing.
Bioware, you have better writers than bethesda. If you let us expand the mass effect universe, is suitable that YOU take a mod afterwards (do you know counter strike? it was a mod, I played the beta a LOT of years ago), and fix it, it could become a DLC.
Yes, was developed by players, but they canonized it and fixed bugs.
There is a Fallout 3 mod, called CUBE, that is perfect, even better than a official DLC. Take a look, and think what players can do with developer tools.
http://www.moddb.com...be-experimental
Limit them if you want, but I think a company that has a strong community backup, is a strong company.
Think that mass effect series has a lot of dialogues that can be re-used on mods for every character.
And -by the way - a mod tool allows people to develop the ending FOR YOU AND FOR FREE.
Thanks

Not trying to be argumentative, but I think -you- are missing the point. If the editing of stats effects both single and mp, as you stated: this is poor design. This shouldn't be the case, there should be server side files for mp to compliment the sp client side ones. If the only way to dragnet cheaters is to check for the editing of local content bio has essentially shot down the possibility of good mods... Not to mention this frames origin as spyware that monitors your machine without telling you. One might hope bio posts some insight about their anticheating methods. If modding is equiviliant to cheating: say good bye to fan created mods.. Do you follow..?
The point is this: because of poor game deisgn bioware is alienating the modding community. This is not a thing.
