Garrus: Do I really need to explain this one?

Tali: I really like her character. Her dream of building a house on the homeworld is really touching.

Wrex: Possibly the most badass character ever.

Thane: I actually didn't really like him at first, but the more I've played the more I've come to really like him.

Aria: Badass, and a surprisingly interesting character if you talk to her after dealing with Patriarch.

Shiala: A fairly minor character, but I still found her to be very interesting. Also the only character I can think of that has been able to resist indoctrination.

1. Garrus -- Ultimate bro
2. Thane -- Just too damn cool not to be in my squad
3. Jack -- Loved her in ME2, loved her more in ME3
4. Mordin -- I'm glad he went out the way he did, but it would have been cool to have him in my squad before it happened
5. Samara -- One of my favourites from ME2 that I felt was a little underused in ME3. Wanted to see more of her
6. Liara -- I never romanced her, but she was an amazing friend to the very end. Glad to have her with me
7. Ashley -- My LI, so this one is pretty obvious

3/7 as squad mates in ME3 and at least the rest of them showed up and had their moments

My 7 would be:

Garrus: Not so much for squad abilities than hearing his conversation and dialogue. He's just too much fun to not listen to!
Tali: Same as above, though partially for her abilities. Again her conversation is too much fun to pass up.
Liara: Her squad abilities mainly, however I also like her as a character, though I think some of the best lines in the games are given to other characters.
Miranda: Not a fan of her character but her abilities made her a constant squadmember for my ME2 teams.
Kaiden: His character finally grew on me after we broke up in ME3. His abilities made him an almost permanent squad member for the rest of the game.
Mordin: Lets just pretend he didn't die. His character is another favorite of mine, plus his incinerate is another great asset.
Legion: Again another character with great dialogue, and not to mention great combat techniques. The scene where Shep questions his N7 armor plating always puts a smile on my face.

Honorable Mention:
Blasto - He scoffs at Diplomatic Immunity.
Thane - While I can pretend Mordin didn't die, I can't bring myself to do the same for Thane as he entered the game with the chronic illness he had. I wouldn't have him join me and sacrifice his health.
Eve - She'd present some great insight into what we're up against and she's darn handy with a pistol.

I play an adept so I don't need another full biotic. I know these are all very girly reasons but I'm a girly girl.

Garrus - duh. He's my true love.
Thane - I love my little Drell.
Legion - I call him my Gethypants and I cried when he gave his life for his people.
Kal'Reeger - I am very upset he died and then emailed me about it. I love male Quarians.
Zaeed - He's just too awesome not to have.
Coates - I really like him and he seemed quite awesome in the little time you interact with him.
Ashley - Gotta have my bff plus we can share clothes.

Kasumi,

(Tali and Kasumi are probably my 2 most favorite characters in the series. Also, the only 2 I really take anywhere with me ever [except on loyalty missions, then they're alternated] in me2. they just work so well with my fem!Shep, who I've determined needs the choice to wear a Kasumi-esque hood)

Garrus (obvious),
Jack (love using her whenever I need an extra biotic kick--so to speak),
Vega (He calls me Lola. That, and he kicks major ***),
Legion (come on, it's Legion),
Kaidan (just cuz)

Garrus - There is no Shepard without Vulkarian.
Tali - I'm not the biggest fan of her but she stuck by Shepard throughout the whole series so she has my respect.
Liara- I liked her in Mass Effect 3 and I like the Shadowbroker subplot.
Grunt - I like Wrex but I only need one Krogan and that is Grunt.
Miranda - I really liked her sideplot in Mass Effect 2 and she was a pretty interesting character. I wish they would have done more with her father in ME3 since he turned out to be a total wuss.
Legion - He's just so innocent. He has to be on my team.
Thane/Javik - I can't decide between these two. Thane is a total badass and Javik is the ultimate troll. I need them both.

-Although if Legion were to be a squadmate I think I'd want the geth/quarian conflict to come before the genophage stuff just because I'd like to have him as a character earlier in the game.
It sucks that he came so late in ME2.

I'd like to add Wrex, but I'm ok with the fact that being King Krogan is a full time task.

EDI having a body was cool, and having both EDI and Legion as squadmates would be interesting, but if I had to choose one I'd go with Legion.
EDI is still on the ship after all.

Mordin and Thane were near the end of their lives anyway and the Mordin arc was great.
