Garrus - Shep's best bud.
Tali - Some interesting character progression.
Thane - Probably my favourite character in a game ever. He's just so tragic, especially in ME2.
Grunt - I always liked him a bit more than Wrex, because he was a bit more complex than your standard krogan.
Legion - The Geth are just interesting.
Mordin - I liked all his inner-conflict regarding the genophage. He grew on me more than any other character.
Liara - Always liked her because she was quite grounded, in comparison to a lot of the other nutcases on your ship.
Tali - Some interesting character progression.

Garrus - The guy is simply brilliant. Brilliant character, brilliant Voice acting, been there from the beginning. I truly love this character and he takes pride of place as my joint favourite videogame character of all time (Alongside Minsc of Baldurs Gate)

my "dream team" would be along the lines of

Tali. I have a weakness for nerdy, adorkable girls; which is why she's been my LI since it was possible.
Legion. he (they, it?) is (are?) just awesome; particularly the observations it has on organics.
Mordin. he IS the very model of a scientist salarian, after all.
Javik. he rocks. his comments on everything (from amusement at the idea of Asari being the most poowerful race in the galaxy to his comments on how salarian liver (served raw) was considered a delicacy in the prothean empire) just make me laugh.
Blast Hardcheese. I'll admit I was skeptical about Vega when I first saw him, but he's grown on me.

-Wrex. He's fine where he is, but I miss him on my team. He's a little too 'bro' in ME3 as well, which colors my perception of him. Different writer probably.
-Garrus. Yes really. I feel like his arc is played out, and he would be better suited for showing the consequences of your ME1 and ME2 personality change choices, to show how he became formed as in individual. However, I would have liked him to be an 8th squadmate still, and if he was dead, introduce a female turian in his place!
-Miranda. If she joined, I would have wanted her to maybe have a twist, like TIM being her father or something. As is it, she seems a bit shafted, and I feel meh..
-Thane. I like him, used him a lot toward the end of ME2. He's somewhat shafted in ME3. I would have preferred a conditional 'cure Thane' sidemission element though, for those who care enough.
-Legion.
HIM! EDI is a good 'AI character' replacement though. I do think that things should have been shifted around where you could have him return instead of have EDI, based on your choices though.

They both feel like they could have been made deeper and more awesome, yet they were shafted into sidequests, especially Zaeed. -James. Ehh... Sorry, but unless he truly has some 'secret insight into Reaper workings and Shepard being indoctrinated', I have no use for him. At all. I would have liked him into the team if he had more depth.

-Jacob (go the hell away. His character was already ruined in the transition between Galaxies and ME2)
-Jack (I like her, but would rather a non-squad role with her. In ME3, sadly, she was only 1/2 of what I hoped she would be)
-Mordin (would rather Kirrahe for ME3, or new Salarian if Kirrahe was dead - Mordin already played his 'combat role' imo)

Bioware is lauded for great characterization, but I often feel they only get it right 1/3 of the time. James and Kaiden suffer from this too, but Kaiden had actual potential (again, 'insane biotic'?) and James will be kinda cool again if IT is true.
I get very sick of the Miranda, Jack, and Samara/Morinth 'dat ass/boobs' stuff too, which makes me happy to just have Liara (sexy but fine) and Ashley (even dolled up for no discernable reason).

Seven huh? Ok, here goes:
- Kaidan - LI and a great squaddie, particularly in ME3. He and Liara worked well together.
- Garrus - how can you play ME without him?
- Thane - Loved the combination of Thane and Garrus in ME2.
- Liara - Her biotics were great in ME1 although I wasn't fond of the character. She really grew on me in the SB dlc and she's terrific (imo) in ME3.
- Tali - Yeah, I got attached to her like a little sister in ME1 and can't do without her in ME2 and 3.
- Wrex - Like Garrus, a must have for me.
- Legion - dunno why I like him so much but I do and I found him pretty effective.

Tali (Engineer, dat troll drone and sentry turret)
Javik (Adept, dark channel warp warp warp warp)
Wrex (Vanguard, barrier + fortification + krogan = eats missiles for breakfast)
Garrus (Infiltrator, can deal with all defenses)
Legion (Infiltrator...no data available.)
[some new Sentinel character, maybe batarian?] (I don't really want Kaidan or Miranda but we need a sentinel and I was always disappointed you never got a personal look at batarians)
Ideally, this includes Mordin as my ship's doctor/one-man research lab and Liara as the ship's...uh...information broker.

Biotics? What're those? This gang gives (IMO) the best commentary and they have the best story arcs.
