Garrus: Turian bro/ Femshep romance, enough said.

Tali: Quarian sis/Manshep romance, see above.

Zaeed: Zaeed was one of my favorite companions in ME2. He just seemed so awesome and badass and, most of all, human (unlike most human companions in ME2). He was a mercernary veteran who saw it all and just took everything like the boss he was. Also, he had hilarious quotes.

Javik: One of the best written companions to ever grace the ME series in my opinion. It's a shame that he was restricted to DLC. I kinda recoiled a bit when he said his last words before the endgame when he touches the memory shard.

Grunt: In my personal canon, Shepard adopts Grunt. He's my shepard's spiritual son.

Jack: I was always a fan of Jack, can't really pinpoint why. Had great backstory and dialouge in ME2.

Kasumi: Loved her character, always was a sucker for gold-hearted thieves. It'd be great to see her fleshed out more.

Jacob: Maybe, just maybe, in between ME2 and 3, he could undergone some kind of transformation like the reverse of what Jack did. Maybe he gets a little more angrier and rougher due to being betrayed by Cerberus. And maybe if you romanced him, he grows back into the calm Jacob we had in ME2? Also, it would give some more chances with him and Kasumi.

Legion: Do I need to justify this?

Garrus - There is no reason, it's Garrus and Shep's best buddy, should there be a reason?
Thane - Everyone needs a friendly assassin
Kaidan - Loved him more in ME3, also turned him into an unstoppable biotic (and my FemShep would never forgive me)
EDI - Way more helpful then I thought she would be
Grunt - Love Grunt, my favorite tank and would take him over Wrex any day
Jack - Aside from Kaidan she is my favorite biotic with a shotgun, also liked her more in ME3
Mordin - We need a soundtrack

2. The Refund Guy (A good side mission to get his toaster refunded from malicious shop keepers. Reward: 15 credits)
3. Moe the Another Prothean (Coward and drunkard in one package. I'm not sure I want to try his soup however)
4. Marauder Shields (Now he might be able to warn Shepard directly)
5. Blasto (Badassfully: We need another badass)
6. Harbinger (Ultimate plot twist)
7. The Biotic God (His biotic powers will rule supreme.)

Liara-- We need the protection of her plot armor.
Mordin-- The only character I'd go gay for.
Garrus-- Shepard's best friend and one hell of a badass.
Ashley-- My romance option and underrated character (even though I don't think they did a good job with her in ME3.)
Tali-- Likeable character with good dialogue. Girl-next-door-type. I'd romance her if Ashley weren't around.
Legion-- Very cool character and representative of the most "alien" life form in the game. Great dialogue and I love the Geth.
Wrex-- Although I love Grunt, this guy here's the original.

Normandy crew dream team choice:

Gianna Parasini: Replace Chobot with her. She's very good at investigation and intelligence, and would undoubtedly be of use against the Reapers. And she's the hottest character in the series.

Tali: Watching her grow throughout the series is amazing. Most interesting character in the series imo. She's also my Shep's LI, so...yeah.

Garrus: He's been with you since the beginning, had never betrayed you and always has your back, even when it seems like no one else will. A true bro.

Thane: A calm yet deadly assassin who is very spiritual and is one of those people you can talk to about anything. He's up there with Garrus in terms of bro status.

Legion: His perspective is not one you hear of often. He's also the first friendly geth you meet so that might have a bit to do with why he's on my list.

Wrex: He's up there with Garrus in terms of bro status. He's been through a lot and is one of Shepard's closer friends. As far as I know, it's not common to be good friends with a krogan. Also, because it's Wrex.

Grunt: Same as Wrex pretty much. Also because HE...IS...KROGAAAAAN!

and last but not least, probably either Jack, Liara, Samara or Javik.

Basically because I'd need a biotic teammate somewhere in there. Got a lot of snipers but meh. I never really played biotic characters much.

Honestly, who I'd want varies by the minute but for ME3 as it is:

1. Liara
2. Garrus
3. Tali
4. Wrex
5. VS
6. Batarian squadmate, preferably Balak. (I'm of the opinion that we shouldn't have brand new characters in such a featured role this late in a trilogy w/o good reason. Considering Arrival, Batarian/Human relations throughout the whole series and the fact that we just plain haven't had a Batarian squaddie, I say it merits inclusion.)

7. Legion/Mordin (I can't choose!)
8. I'm counting Javik over the top as he is DLC.

Honorable mentions: honestly, basically every single squadmate from the first and second games would be welcome inclusions to me. I liked them all. Some are only not included in the list above because I went for variety above all.

I have nothing against the squad selection as it is, it's just hard to take such a steep drop in volume from ME2. I like EDI and Vega, but they seemed unnecessary inclusions so deep in the trilogy. I'd have been happy just putting the old band back together. I understand there is limitations due to the volume of dialogue they'd have to record/implement but at the very least I was hoping they old squadmates would be guest star party members for a bit. I mean how awesome would it have been if you could attack the Cerberus base with Miranda and Jack? I'd have been fine seeing EDI utilized the same way, not a full squadmate, just available for a couple of missions as part of her character arc.

Extra special mention: volus/elcor/hanar squadmate. Just because. Would be fun as a lethal joke teammate.

I suppose I don't really want to change what we already have, I just want MOAR.

I would have appreciated that - Chobot really got on my nerves pretty quickly. Plus playing chess to initiate an emotional relationship is just awkward.

Anyway:

Garrus: Has to be one of the top shots in the galaxy, plus a damn good stablizing influence on Shepard.
Ash: Best Marksman in the galaxy. Her War Asset citation describes her as a cunning tactician, so I definitely would want her on my team.
Tali: Unbeatable with tech, she's like the little cousin that knows everything about everything, the one you get to fix your computer all the time. Cerberus Engineers got nothing on her.
Liara: Probably better biotics in the galaxy, but relatively few with her level of combat experience. The rest of the asari are thought to be terrible at war.
Miranda: I would want her as backup for Tali and Liara on tech and biotics. Versatile in multiple forms of combat, she'd be the definite all rounder that you keep in reserve.
Vega: Bruiser with Humour. Love the guy.
