This is why i want my star team based on their personality, not their combat skills in game.

1. Garrus: I dont really put these in ranking order, but if there was a ranking order, Garrus would be on top. he simply was made out of pure badass, with awesomesauce on the side.

2. Wrex: Shepard. I just loved him from the beginning of me1 when he killed Fist, his bounty (for the newcomers) without my authorization, the relationship just grew from there.

3. Legion: When he came around i was amazed how interesting a piece of metal could be. I was gutted when they killed him off, Huge mantears with beards.

4. Tali. My LI, since 2 obviously, i honestly just care for her, shes that cute one thats just one of the guys, and i just liked the mystery of "whats behind the mask"

5. Miranda: Romanced her on another save, but thats besides the point, i like agressive women, just as people, not as partners, its why i play my femshep renegades. and ehm... dayumm dat ass. I said it.

6. Grunt. I know its my second krogan in this list, but cmon, they are KROGAN!!!! Grunt allways just had some catchy comments on mission, love him.

7. Joker. I know he has vroliks syndrome, and he probably wouldnt be that useful in combat.. but dammit he is the best friend to have, next to Garrus, put him in a mech, i dont care, i want him in my team!

Garrus: should be mandatory

Wrex: one of my fav chars...simple, straight foreward, code of honor (kinda) and a real motive for his actions...by all means it`s Wrex..seeing him ontop of Tuchankas throne reminded of good old Conan.

Grunt: see Wrex and seriously ..having both of them in one squad = win

Ash: i liked that Ash is not a damsel in distress and unlike Liara her "balls" actualy felt natural..besides i liked her ME3 look, would`ve just married her..after i made crafuly sure she doesn`t actualy have "balls"

Mordin: gotta love the mad scientiest, he was just a lovly guy...despite the things he did

EDI: came out of nowhere and sticked the most in my brain, the idea behind her was awesome and the execution of her char rather amusing....some of her quotes just were comedy-gold.

Liara: mandatory as Garrus is...but i could never get used to her emancipation...it felt kinda strange..the damsel in distress thingy was more natural there.

Garrus: because he is a great character....

EDI: because I really injoyed her and joker hooking up (wish their would have been more with them). Not to mentioned she really has wonderfull character dialog and development in both ME2 & ME3....

Grunt: Because well he is grunt... To know Grunt is to love grunt hehehe

Thane: because my wife wants her green babies.... I like him because of the whole spiritual aspect of his character...

Jack: because of all the humans in the game she is the best one IMO and I felt their should be at least ONE tolken human on my list ....Not to mention it would have been cool to see Jack turn into a mom....

-Garrus- best mate for my shepard and deadly at long range.
-Javik- reckless and hardened by many battles, when everything goes to hell he doesn't hesitate and his biotics are fine.
-Wrex/Grunt- I can't really think who would be best for my dream team. Ok Wreax has biotics and more experience but Grunt has much more potential defense and stamina and he wouldn't question my authority like Wreax may do.
-Legion- again a squadmate good at long range and more importantly a tech expert.
-Jack- very powerful with her biotics but she might get overexcited on the battlefield and lose control.
-Miranda- her genes are an assurance and she follows orders instantly, her biotics are fine also.
-Mordin-he is a good soldier but on this team he is clearly the worst, still I may need a medical expert on an unexpected situation.

I would have picked Kasumi instead of Legion if my Shepard wasn't an infiltrator.

Wrex - Easily the best companion in Mass Effect 1, would have for sure kept that title throughout if BioWare continued to use him

Miranda - Main LI for my male Shepard, pretty much an equal to a female Shepard

Jack - Awesome in Mass Effect 2, would have really liked to see more of her evolution in Mass Effect 3

Javik - He's Prothean.

Aria - Every super team needs an Asari, she's the best one.

Mordin - Same reason as Aria, you need a Salarian

Grunt/Garrus - Both awesome, Garrus for the same reason as Aria/Mordin, Grunt because he's Grunt.

[General User]

1) Javik - One of the best combatants. A super killer biotic.

2) EDI - Between Decoy, Incinerate, and Overload, just give her a Hurricane and EDI can bring home the bacon and fry it up in a pan!

3) Vega - Vega's like Jacob, only interesting, and Carnage is just awesome to watch.

There is no further need for additional squadmates in ME3. At least not permanent squadmates.  So...

4) Lather
5) Rinse
6) Repeat
7) The End

Garrus - There is no Shepard without Vakarian.

Miranda - LI and would have had a great role beside Shepard with taking down Cerberus.

Legion - My favorite synthetic in the galaxy and one of the most interesting characters in the ME-universe.

Mordin - Probably the smartest scientist around and a perfect asset on the Normandy

Grunt - The perfect Krogan, do I need more reasoning?

Thane - Interesting spiritual character and friend. Personally approved, but doesn't make rational sense.

Liara - I like her. Far from being my personal favorite, but she got her justified place on Shepard's side.

Kaidan - LI for my canon Shep, nuff said.
Jack - Ridiculously awesome, best female in the ME universe.
Morinth - dat VA, seriously. Plus she is hella interesting, and horrendously under utilised.
Legion - Shepard Commander.
Miranda - Heavily tied to the Cerberus arc, especially given her daddy beef, plus she's badass.
Javik - Best ME3 squaddie by miles, sorry Vega and EDI.
Garrus - The Normandy isn't going to calibrate itself, is it?

Tali - No real specific reason, but it wouldn't be the Normandy without her.

Liara - The resident prothean expert, plus she has Warp.

Ashley - My LI for my main Shepard, and a damn good soldier.

Grunt - I've got more big things for him to fight, and I could use a krogan on my crew.

Javik - For when something needs thrown out the airlock.

Legion - Without him...there would be a hole, Shepard-Commander.

Tali: Give her the hat trick for squaddie status. Also my preferred LI and useful for tech using squaddie.
Garrus: Hat trick again. Also he is awesome.
Virmire Survivor: Because I liked their ME3 plot.
Javik: because Javik
Liara: might as well. It's not like Bioware could bring itself to not include her.
Vega: I liked him too.
An engineer Charcter that is not EDI: so that players that kill off as many squddies as possible still have a tech user if Tali is dead.

So yeah, the only squaddie I would have preferred gone is EDIbot. Not big on a squaddie that becomes useless if the Normandy is too far away. Though I did notice that the only guarunteed squaddies in ME3 are Liara (pure Biotic), Vega (Pure combat) and EDI (pure Tech). I figured that having one of each as a guarunteed squaddie was a good idea, so that's why I didn't specify an existing, possibly dead, past squaddie.

I've also thought up a crazy idea that I'll include as an honorable mention:

The Virmire Casualty: Whichever one of Ashley or Kaiden that was killed. They got cloned and speed grown like Grunt, and implanted with faked memories of the original`s life. They were then sent after you by Cerberus (or someone else if you want to avoid implication of indoctrination). After a few confontations, you can possibly convince them to turn on whoever created them and join you. There`s then all sorts of existential angst about whether or not they`re a real person; conflict between the clone and the surviving ME3 squaddies; and doubts raised as to whether Shepard is the real deal, or if Jacob was wrong and Shepard is a clone with implants to make the ressurection story believable (The correct answer is that Shepard is real, this is confirmed either by a conversation with Miranda (if she`s alive) after recruiting the clone, or through files found in the Cerberus base). You can either treat the clone like **** and convince your team to do the same,  thus leading the clone to possibly betray you our sacrice themselves to save you or something like that during a confrontation, or convince them that even if they are not the original they are still a real person with a real soul and all that jazz, leading to them saving your life without dying in the aforementioned confrontation.

I know it`s silly, but it`s a plot bunny that`s been rattling around my brain and I wnted to share it.

Garrus - Handy with an assault rifle and pretty good with a sniper rifle. Perfect compliment to my Shep.
Wrex - Tank, enough said.
Miranda - Very effective in combat and dat @ss!
Ashley - With the right weapon and power-ups she's solid. Of course I'd want the ME1 version of her.
Jack - She's just a bad @ss and can hold her own.
Tali - Her engie skills come in handy at times.
Liara - She may not be the best in combat but her character adds so much depth.

If I had all these ladies on the Normandy can you imagine the cat fights!

1) Garrus - Loyal right hand and a great shot
2) Tali - Three games in a row. Always an awesome and interesting character.
3) Wrex - Duh. Badass Krogan.
4) Grunt - Badass Krogan 2.0
5) Mordin - Awesome tech. Very cool character and his role in the genophage is really interesting.
6) Thane - Incredible assassin. His role in ME3 was pretty awesome
7) Legion - Sick sniper. Another interesting character. Gives insight into how the geth operate.
