the characters of the Mass Effect trilogy, particularly the LI's.
~Over the course of six days, we gathered 130 letters, and art from fans all over the world, and assembled a 200 page fanbook. The Book was presented to the BioWare panel at PAX.~
Project Aftermath:
- An updated, version 2 of The Book is now available. http://k004.kiwi6.co...3/the_book.pdf. This version has been sent to the personal email of Patrick Weekes, Evil Chris Priestly, some bloggers and the assistant editor from Game Rant. The only changed/added content was a few letters/revisions that made it into the hardcover version of The Book, but not the first iteration of the PDF.
- There was some issue yesterday as to whether or not some letters/revisions made it into The Book. Aryss, Nick and I have since determined that all the letters were printed and made it into the hardcover version of the book that was presented to the BioWare panel at PAX. Again, the first version of the PDF is the one that was missing a few items, not the hardcover version of the The Book. We hope we have corrected that.
-Remember, the book itself was more of a symbol. The sentiment is just as important. And so far as sentiment goes, we all said the same thing, no matter our particular favorite LI, "We love these characters, please let us spend a little more time with them."
- BioWare has The Book! Take to Twitter and Facebook, Lets get some feedback on our feedback!
- Aryss & Nick also had a chat with Patrick Weekes and a number of other people during the last day of PAX. Stay
tuned for a full report. Interesting information was gleaned.
- To people who did not get a chance to participate in The Book project, please keep an eye out for our future LI projects.

The Mention of the Fanbook During the Panel (skip to 4:50):
The Book: A Narrative:
Hello lovely people of the BSN,
Nick and I want to start off with thanking you! The support, the feedback,
and the contributions have been overwhelmingly wonderful. It’s been a
blast reading through the thread. Have you noticed how amazing it is
when the BSN comes together under one cause? This truly is an incredible
community. That being said, keep up the awesome work, guys. It isn’t
over yet. Take to Twitter and Facebook! Charge! When we spoke to the BSN
representatives (Patrick Weekes, Mike Gamble, John Dombrow ), they told
us plainly that what DLC they produce depends upon community feedback.
Your voices matter, but they’re loudest when united and used in
cooperation. You see how well we did here? We worked together. That’s
what made it happen.
We also want to flesh out some of the
blurbs Visii has relayed. Isn’t she amazing (HUGE thank you for all of
her support, organization, and for putting up with our tired, cranky,
and hungry selves)!? Let’s start out with the Staples guy, okay? HUGE
shout out to Chris of the random Boston Staples we found, who, instead
of taking 2 hours, finished our pictures in, like, 20 minutes. This was
just a few hours before we took off for the panel! Potential heart
attack there.
We got to PAX two hours before the panel, good
thing too, as the parking lot was full and the line for the panel was
massive (We had to forgo going to the Dragon Age panel just before ={
See how much we love you?) This is where we made friends with random
attendees that where interested in our black book with the unique N7
patch (thank you Gamergal). Word gets around fast when people are 6
inches apart, which is how we got the attention of a couple of
journalists from GameRant (Thanks Matthew Kozachek for the
introduction!). Man, those guys knew their stuff. You know how a lot of
journalists bash us? Well these guys have actually played the series and
care as much as we do. Make sure to check them out. Jason Weissman, the
assistant editor, was quick to tell us he was on our side and he wants
to do a write up of our labor of love. Cool, huh?
Upon getting into the theatre, it was still unclear whether or not they would be
entertaining questions, so we opted to give the book to Chris Priestly
right then. I know he doesn’t look ecstatic in the pictures we provided.
We’re sorry. He was actually super nice, all smiles, and even posed
with thumbs up, but in all the rush we forgot our actual camera, and our
phone decided it wanted to portray Chris as evil. (Enter flaming smiley
face here =p )
We were pleased to see that as soon as we got
back to our seats, the whole team was flipping through the pages with an
utterly impressed look on their faces. Win! They even mentioned our
book and how gorgeous it was, and it got a huge amount of applause from
the attendees (which was pleasantly surprising.)
Fast forward
through the panel and some really odd questions… Testing utilities and
facial animations, really? Come on. And we made our way down to room 105
the ‘Bioware Headquarters’ for what we thought was just going to be a
meet and greet. Turns out there was an absurdly long line for that one
too. But, as you’ve probably read, Chris ushered us in like VIPs. (We
felt so special!) He then introduced us to the writers, Patrick Weekes
and John Dombrow, and the DLC manager, Mike Gamble.
The answers
we did glean from this patient group of individuals were limited, as
security soon cleared the room for the signing event. These answers
included future DLC being extremely dependent on community feedback,
they too want more time with their own favorite LIs, and some of the
shortcomings of the game are due to limited time and resources in
combination with the massive scope of the game. I’m sorry, but we
didn’t have much time to ask the other questions we had fully intended
on asking for specific LIs. But we did try to impress upon them the fan
support for DLC LI content.
The Bioware team was very polite,
very kind, and seemed to care immensely for the game and characters they
created. They also seem to be taking the criticism in stride and with
good humor. This was a nice contrast from some of the harsh treatment of
fans we’ve witnessed in the past. But again, they said that their
decisions are largely based off of fan feedback. So if you want change
or more content, speak loudly and speak together!
Thank you guys
so much for all that you’ve done to help get this book completed as
well as getting it the attention it needs to make an impact. Back at the
hotel room, it’s a little emptier without our baby. But we believe that
it is in capable hands and will be read by people who care.
Make yourselves heard!
Aryss & Nick

~Thanks to everyone who contributed, and especially to my new friends Aryss & Nick Arlov, who have put in a great
amount of effort and time into this project! Without them, and my indomitable will, none of this would have been possible. The two of the put together and presented the fanbook to the BioWare panel at PAX: due to family reasons, I was unable to go with them.~

*** Sorry if we forgot anyone. I can say wth certainty that if your name isn't on the list, your letter is still, definitely in the book. There's only three of us; me, Aryss & Nick Arlov, this project progressed faster than we anticipated and it has been several late nights of letter gathering, reading, spell and politeness-checking and doing battle with the book itself to make it worthy of presentation.
