You attention harlots shall be the death of me. ^_-

I wasn't going to keep updating the, see-I-helped-recognize-me! part of the first post but if you insist.... Give me a little bit.

Again, everyone else, final letters are due by 9PM (EST) TONIGHT!. So if you want to write another one for a different LI or know some people who might like to contribute, belay that procrastination! Get moving!

.... also, we're still looking for Fan art of all the LI's. Have a ridiculous amount of Thane pics, would like some more of the other ME2 LI's, though fan art of other LI's is also welcome. Nothing explicit! Must get permission to use it if it's not yours!

@ Kratos,

What's that I see in my inbox? Amongst the turbulent sea of letters awash with love for Thane, Jack, Miranda and more, one carefully penned (and hopefully spell-checked) by Kratos? Yes, it is truth.

I have it.

Hn. I have no clue. They belong to Bioware, technically, right? I mean, it's going BACK to them so...

@ CrutchCricket,

Sorry, I think I labelled your letter under general/all, because you talked about more than one character.  Let me see...

Well, posting my letter now, as a fan of Miranda.

---------------------------------------------------
Bioware staff:

Like many of your disappointed fans, I'm writing this letter to make you take notice of my thoughts about your poor work with ME3. I know many of the fans are complaining about the rushed (?) work with the endings; however that is not the reason why I'm writing this.

The game has its good parts, I enjoyed the arcs of the genophage and the war on Rannoch. However for me all that is tainted by the poor treatment some characters received, especially one of my favorites: Miranda.

There were things that fascinated me from the character (more than "dat ass"). I liked her being a "grey" character.
In ME2 she believes in the kind of human advancement Cerberus represented, she joined them knowing that the people benefiting from their action would never thank her and she’ll be marked as a terrorist the rest of her life. The word impossible wasn’t in her dictionary. Even if she is a member of an organization known for being racist she isn’t a xenophobe: she admires asari culture, and she understands the need of humanity to have groups like the salarian STG. I liked her for being a good operative, someone who doesn’t need to be treated like porcelain.
She could kill a man in cold blood, yet she still has a caring heart to love her sister (and Shepard if romanced).

I liked her stigma of being created to please the desires of his father and his dynasty, that she was unable to take pride in all her achievements because of the advantages given her by her father, but also that Shepard could convinceher to take credit for what she has achieved, attributing it to her determination and not to the gifts of her father.

Backin 2010 when I first played the Mass Effect series, I was looking forward to getting to know her better, however since the release of the DLC Lair of the Shadow broker, her character has been poorly treated.

In LotSB the things I don’t like from her dossier are:

Infertility problems: I don’t like that she, having all of those amazing gifts, is unable to pass them on. But the most retarded part is that being in the XXII century, and with the technology to bring a man back from the dead, her problem can’t be cured.

She is more than an operative, she’s also a women of science, but cancelled a subscription to a science
magazine and a she is more interested in fashion? WHAT A HELL WAS WRONG WITH YOU WRITERS.

I have no problem with the iPartner thing, she’s a healthy woman, and she deserves some stress relief, but her nickname, Lawbringer-SR2. Does it mean that she had those encounters during the mission? That make her appear incompetent, way out of character.

Those are my complains about LotSB, now, regarding the main topic, her poor treatment in ME3. I know she wasn’t the least favored character and LI from the game (Jacob has the worst part), but
you destroyed a big part of the characterization you gave her in Mass Effect 2. The only trait remaining is the love for her sister, but what a hell happened with the rest?

She spent all her adult life working for Cerberus, but she doesn’t have any comment about the organization that is attempting against her principles and everything she thought it had been.

She was genetic engineered by her father, but she doesn’t have a single line to him touching this topic. Doesn’t she have anything to say to the man who tormented her during her young life? And who is menacing her younger sister.

Where is my operative? Every character from ME2 has a badass moment in the game: Grunt fighting against rachni husks, Jack fighting against Cerberus troops, Thane and his fight with Leng. But she, a leading character from the previous game, doesn’t have any moment like this? Just a crappy “biotic punch” to her father (a civilian, not a trained person). A punch that ended any possible dialogue between her and her father.

The name of her father, Henry Lawson. She is smart; don’t you think that changing her surname is the most logical thing to do when she is hiding from her father?

Was it really so hard to have Miranda as a squadmate? At least for one mission, assaulting TIM’s base? She is the only person who Shepard knows has being on TIM base before. She was the most logical option to have as a squadmate in there. Even if you were set on not making her a squadmate because she was one of the
"expendable" ones, she could've been on the Normandy, talking to us on radio during that mission (just as Wrex/Wreav and Mordin did during the missions of the genophage arc). Was it really so hard to have her on the
Normandy after Sanctuary? She was hurt after her encounter with Leng; couldn’t Shepard just bring her to the medical bay of the Normandy to treat her? Maybe have some talks with her, and between her and Oriana, on the Normandy?

Another problem is that she doesn’t have anything to contribute after Sanctuary. She just is useless after that. Every other character does something, but all she did after that was taking Oriana to a safe place. She isn’t doing anything more. And the poor excuse of mail that can be read in Liara’s terminal doesn’t help much. Cerberus is already done by the time when get that mail, and Miranda as a fighter pilot? SHE IS AN OPERATIVE, NOT A PILOT. You can’t ignore the fact that after Sanctuary, she is just 25 points for the EMS.

Now, regarding her romance, I appreciate the good lines she had, but the romance has too little contents, and isn’t even half of what the favoredLIs get.

The romance scene: For me that wasn’t a romance scene, just an extended version of a talk, a talk that isn’t even exclusive of the romanced version. And it happens too early, even before there’s a  resolution of her story arc, Why couldn’t you have a true romance scene  with her onboard the Normandy right after Sanctuary, with a pillow talk
like the favored LI. The only thing she had is an extension of a talk  and a fade out screen (even the consort from ME1 has more than that).

She is emotionally unstable. If Shepard brakes up with her in the first talk, she dies no matter what? Why is she the only character who dies from something like that? Why can’t any of the others characters die if Shepard doesn’t want to continue a relationship with them?

Shepard is the worst Lover. There isn’t a single visual kiss between Shepard and Miranda. The only way to get a kiss with her is killing her.

Regarding the romance with her, there’s nothing left if she survives. Her romance is better in her death scenario than where she survives. After Sanctuary there’s nothing between Shepard and Miranda anymore, just a
poor holovid talk on Earth, then again, WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU? Why can’t any of the characters be in the forward operations base, like the team members? Why can’t all of them be together in one place, so that Shepard can have a last talk with them in person?

Shepard isn’t a character defined only by his actions, what most defines him are the people who surrounds him. He can affect them as they can affect him.

And now some things that are insulting to Miranda's character. EDI’s alternative appearance and Liara’s flashback.

Why does EDI have an outfit that looks so similar to Miranda's white catsuit in ME2? They are almost exactly the same thing. I wanted Miranda on my team in the game, I never wanted a "fembot" just to fulfil Joker's sexual desires.

Liara’s flashback affects every player who didn’t romanced her (or the VS). What is most insulting is that this
doesn't appear to be a bug. It’s either shoddy work or a way to give the fans of everyone else the middle finger in the last moments of the game. I have no intention of romancing Liara, why did you have to force that character on us so many times.

I know you won’t correct the poor treatment she received with DLC. I know you never wanted her to be
an interesting character in ME3 (she was complex in ME2, in ME2 she is just simple), I doubt you want to spend money paying her VA, and the main problem: you can’t write content of quality anymore.

And that’s almost all I have to say. If I can resume what I think of Miranda in ME3 it will be just two words: total failure. You were too preoccupied with other characters, and you just decided to shaft the rest. You attitude of “keep it simple” ruined many characters of the series.

Enzo (AKA Skullheart from BSN).
----------------------------------------------------

I hope I posted it in-time.

Edit: I got a revised verson from Ieldra with some changes. The letter was edited.

Those who romanced an ME2 LI should do their best to try and get Bioware to include more content with them in the Extended Edition. Because this sounds like your only chance of getting it. They add an extra scene on the Citadel, or have Shepard have a picture scene, similar to the ME2 picture scenes with Liara and Ash.

Cool. Just the same, if it's not too much trouble could you track it as an entry for Kasumi? Obviously you don't have to double count it but maybe if others see it on there they might be inspired to drop a line as well.

My Letter:

Dear Bioware,

As one of your many fans, my word may not leave much impact -- on its own. But, as you may notice soon, this is one of many letters in regards to your treatment of the story and characters in Mass Effect 3. Put bluntly, I dislike it.

Don't get me wrong, there were amazing moments during the game (Tuchanka, Sanctuary, Rannoch, Cronos Station come to mind) that left me wanting to immediately replay them a 2nd or 3rd time. A good amount of the characters received ample development as well. Liara, as per usual, got her advance in plot relevance (Not something I personally agree with, but that's a different matter), Javik is a surprisingly well-written character and is easily among my favorites, and Thane, Mordin, and Legion all make noble sacrifices that make me proud to call them favorites. Among those I can call favorites, there is 1 in particular that pains me the most, because of how I felt her treatment was mishandled: Miranda Lawson.

In Mass Effect 2, she showed us the more "human" side of Cerberus. She was willing to make the hard choices, and she didn't always make friends with her tactics, but she wasn't the mustache-twirling psychopath that the Illusive Man is now made out to be. She acknowledges and endorses the experimentation on the Thorian creepers, Husks, and Rachni soldiers, but she could not let an abomination like Sanctuary remain standing. She was the woman who (along with her team of scientists) brought Shepard back to life after 2 years. In ME2, we were shown that she was capable of being cold and calculating (Killing Wilson in front of Shepard and Jacob), but also warm and loving at the same time (Oriana and Shepard (if romanced)). In my own opinion, she was well within her rights to have an extravagant return in ME3, but it was both anticlimactic and "watered down".

Specifically, her mission content and conversation content seem to be largely retreads of her loyalty mission from ME2. Granted, I can understand why (Interplanetary extinction event, she wants to make sure Oriana is safe), but it's at the expense of her Cerberus history. It feels largely incidental, what with her making 2 total references to them in conversation, and her presence at Sanctuary being justified by "It was a Cerberus facility".

Her romance also (In my opinion, and apparently shared with a number of her other fans as well) feels rather ham-fisted and tacked on, same going for Thane and Jack, the other returning ME2 romances. Each romance continuation is merely 1-2 lines added onto the stock conversation, with the "culmination" a measly fade-to-black, followed by Shepard teleporting out of the hotel room. In comparison, Ashley, Kaidan, Liara, Garrus, Tali, Cortez, and Traynor *all* have a scene inside Shepard's cabin, followed by "pillow talk". I am aware that they likely received more attention due to their status aboard the Normandy (I'll elaborate on why Miranda should have com aboard, if only for a little bit, later), but it is largely unfair (Let's be frank, It's BS) to fans of someone who's not on the squad.

After Sanctuary (Assuming Miranda is alive), she states that she is going to get her injuries treated. Why could she not come aboard the Normandy here and go into the medbay? I mean, she never once tells us where she's going, so...? It would give us the perfect opportunity for a bit of Cerberus closure (Her opinion on them now, useful intel she may have, etc...), a chance to actually meet Oriana, and a true romance culmination. I would prefer the hotel room scene have the fade-to-black removed from it, and a legitimate love scene added aboard the Normandy, post-sex pillow talk included. On Sanctuary, why does she say a total whopping TWO words to Henry Lawson, regardless of situation? Why is she so gagged towards the man that psychologically tormented her for her childhood and her teen years? He is *literally* the source of her personal demons, but her entire vocabulary for him is "No deal"? What. The. Hell. She's also totally silent with Shepard's squad, but a number of ME2 characters have lines to them, depending on who you bring. Jack talks to EDI, Legion talks to Tali on numerous occasions, Mordin mentions Javik on Sur'kesh, etc... Miranda has worked with Tali and Garrus before, Javik is a prothean, and EDI was (Still is) the Normandy's AI. Not to mention I'm sure Ashley would have a few words for her as well.

One more thing, why is she totally and utterly absent during the Cerberus HQ mission? She planted the trace on Kai Leng, but is then wholly uninterested in bringing down Cerberus completely, despite basing raids on their bases with her squadron of fighter pilots? She doesn't need to be with Shepard on the squad, but at least radio contact, or a "How did it go?" type of conversation after the mission concludes would suffice.

In conclusion, why was Miranda handled so poorly? Did Ms. Strahovski charge more money than you were willing to pay her? Did you simply run out of assets? Favoritism? Why was Miranda specifically, treated so much worse than pretty much everyone else (Jacob and Thane nonwithstanding)?

P.S. Why does Shepard not think about her (Or any of the non-VS or Liara tomances) for the flashback sequence? All the people to look back on, and he ignores the woman (or man) that he/she loves with all his/her heart?

Signed, o Ventus, (Formerly) loyal fan.

I'm officially not taking any more re-writes, many of these letters have already been printed, and on pretty nice, expensive paper, too. We have personally spell-checked and done a basic grammar clean up on ALL of these letters, and have no fear, the punctuation police are here.

Visii, just dropping by to thank you for all of your hard work, This is a wonderful idea and it never would have come together without your dedication to getting it done.
