I want to, it's hard though, the temptation to play is really strong, but like with Mass Effect 2, I found that the extra DLC such as 'Lair of the Shadow Broker' and 'Arrival' really affected the overall storyline of the games put together, and so I know, had I not downloaded them and played my Mass Effect 2 playthrough with them, I would be missing out and would be left with a less interesting story altogether.
I basically want to wait for the same to be available for Mass Effect 3, for all the DLC to be released so any future characters and missions, both significantly affecting the course of the game, can be used in my playthrough and give me the full experience of the game that I wouldn't get if I just used 'vanilla' Mass Effect 3. I already see there is a DLC, 'From Ashes', which will add to the game's story, but there's no point playing the game with a single DLC, then seeing another one released, but it's already too late because you're already halfway through your story...
The sad part is that, after looking at the dates the Mass Effect 2 DLC was released, the DLCs that really mattered like Lair of the Shadow Broker and Arrival weren't released until a year after Mass Effect 2!
Does that mean we're seriously going to have to wait over a year, before those of us who like to play with a game that is literally finished, can play our Mass Effect 3 playthrough fully? Some might not understand, but with a game that is so crucially based on the story the player experiences and shapes throughout the three games, some players like myself really try and immerse outselves in each game, and to do that fully is impossible if every few months DLC is released that significantly changes the overall story possibilities,
It would be nice if the number of future DLCs could be said at least, then we could at least know that we have a long wait ahead instead of being kept in the dark.
Is anyone else holding back on playing until all the DLCs are released?

Its a good point! But honestly, I don't expect we will get a number of future DLCs..

Hold back on playing it? Hell, I'm not even buying it until there's at least some indication of DLC that concludes the game's story in an internally consistent way. I bought ME1 & 2 quite recently, years after they came out, and I can keep myself happy replaying those for a year or two while waiting for ME3 DLC to emerge in full.

Why do you think that? Mass Effect 2 has tons of DLCs, unfortunately the good ones took over a year to be released...
It's really bad, when you think of how much Arrival and Lair of the Shadow Broker effect the story, that they were released so long after release.

Wasted time OP, only because, you never know how long those things will occur --- like Arrival such. You could be waiting forever and by the time your done, some other Mass Effect title may come out.
You might as well just play the game dude, all it means is you'll be playing it over with a fresh look when another piece of DLC comes out.

Yeah, but imagine if I played Mass Effect 1 without ever encountering Liara, or played Mass Effect 2 without having downloaded Javik, my gameplay for both would be way less story wise.

waited two years before I bought my copy in the last few days, I can wait for ME3 to drop down to $20, or Amazon offer the prices that they are currently running for ME1, and 2 (getting rid of surplus activation keys?).

I'm in the same boat. Only on my 2nd playthrough (renegade) of ME1 and can't wait to get started on ME2, but I'm not going to touch ME3 until there is resolution to the Shepard story and a generally positive response from the ME community.

I just don't think BW will/can give us any numbers about DLCs. Yes, ME2 had tons of DLCs, but I doubt BioWare even knew they will do LOTSB and Arrival by the time they released ME2. If I remember correctly, LOTSB was made out of community feedback about wanting to have more Liara content in the game. Please, correct me if I am wrong.Sky999 wrote...

I agree, the fact that some important story-DLCs like LOTSB was released over a year after original game, is sad. But there is one important detail, which makes it less tragic, namely the possibility to continue playing the game after the "Suicide Mission" in ME2, so you could just download the DLC, load your savegame and enjoy some more content even after the main plot was over. I would even say I liked the fact, that even after completing the main story the game wasn't actually over. And Arrival was meant to be the "bridge" between ME2 and ME3 - would be kinda strange to play it before "Suicide Mission"..
Now, this might be problematic (Mordin ftw
Cheers!
