Why does it matter if someone's male or female?

Male gamers get tiresome after awhile if they know you're a girl. On a side note, I don't know what difference it would make it this game - on PC at least I have heard maybe 3 people talk since I played my first multiplayer match (release day).

AT the start one of the players started speaking. It was a woman.

She played so long as she was in 1st place.

Then I overtook her.

She instantly left.

Therefore, all women are jealous of mah skills.

my coop partner is a girl, and when we play with randoms that have mics im pretty shocked by the audacity of some male gamers. i mean its one thing to joke about how dumb guys can be but to actually hear how pathetic it is when they actually say things like that is kind of amazing. we actually try to avoid players with mics because its so rude and annoying.

I perfectly understand when people talk english (well 99.9% of the time) but I'm not used to talk myself.
I can also write English but I can get some slight grammatical errors here and there.

My country of origin is Sweden btw

Just for the record ...I am playing for over 10 years online now and I have never been harrassed for being a girl. Being flirted with, okay, but the guys accepted when I said I have a bf. And if they didnt...there was a block list.
I dont know if I was just lucky or if my guild/clan simply was cool  ( I think most girls in there joined with their spouse).

I felt I had to take up the cudgels for the boys

I for one dont really care who the persons on the other end are- as long as they dont muck everything up.

In my experience all-girls-teams have a certain dynamic of their own and I find it very enjoyable. There is also less trolling, verbal abuse of ppl etc...thats relaxing.

On another not I only ask if they are female because I have played with to many kids that sound like girls.

That must be nice. I haven't heard much of the usual lobby "talk" in ME3 though, people usually keep it pretty civil. Anything else with guns though...actually, I haven't even encountered a girl in any shooter I play. Guess there's a reason for that. ME3 ftw.

Also, this reactionary sexism is borderline absurd. I never hear anyone talk, let alone about how they are gonna get laid. Some of us happen to be married. Anyone wanna play some relaxed games where DPS and final scores aren't pored over obsessively, and has no problem with the Y chromosome, add JaDangerX on Live.
PS I wonder about turians. It seems like they want so badly to be the manliest race in citadel space that they are afraid to come out of the closet and admit that there are no female turians...

In my MMO experience, there are a LOT of them. A little less than half in my last guild. I think.

I agree. I havent heard much mic use in ME3.
And yes, there is definately more talk/chat (of the positive and not so positive kind) in other games. The guild/clan I was in was very strict when it came to politeness so that would be something Id want for my next as well. Which will likely be my old GW guild in Guild Wars 2

Having witnessed both on xbox live and PSN how some gamers get when they find out the person there playing with is female....omg as a guy that just makes me sad. Just because she is a girl does not mean you have to suck up to her -.- treat her like a gamer and you will be fine.

Last time people here found out I was a girl, I got lots of friend requests accompanied with messages that say....

"How you doiiin babyy?"

Really now, that gets old.

I think people should use the mic, it makes it easier to communicate and act as team. It'll save people from being killed because you can say "Phantom behind you!" or "Okay I'll activate this console... cover me." I always have my mic on!

I've played with many girls, one who was purposely talking in a "sexy" voice to aggravate people, I was a Krogan, she'd say things such "Come and save me!" "For Tuchanka.."

Obviously there's more guys than girls but they aren't a rare species.
When they join it's not like it says "a wild girl appeared".
