Why does it matter if someone's male or female?
Excellent question. Would love to hear a competant response.

Eh, stoopid ppl using the same annoying thing here in Hungary too. Just not the "like, ya know, like" thing. It's "hallod?" (means do you hear?) and it is as annoying as the english stuff.
Stoopid people gonna stoopid...

Judging form what I've seen, if I were a woman I'd just keep quiet to avoid harassment too.
This is why I figure I haven't heard any girls on Xbox Live. I'm pretty sure I've played with some by now, and I don't blame them for keeping quiet.

If you think you get harrased for being a lady you should try being British and playing with a "certain breed" of Yanks. I've lost count of the number of times I've been told I should personally thank some random 17 year old kid for the "US's help during WW2". :-S
Actually that reminds me of a scene from The Simpsons which showed Lisa's future.
Moe: You know we saved your ass in WW2.
Brit: Yea, well we saved your ass in WW3.
Moe: True. True.
Take solace in knowing it will be Britain saving America's ass in WW3.

Neither gender is better and frankly I just turn down the audio and have music.
Amen.
Does it really make a single difference what gender people are?

I remember one kid I encountered in the ME3 multiplayer that was a very unique occurence. He sounded like your typical annoying 12-year-old, and I didn't have my mic in but a few waves in, he suddenly asked if I was a girl (the closest to any indication was that my username is Tyvani and I was playing an Asari Adept) and I kinda shot the ground as a "yes" and he figured that out but he didn't really say much else about it. It was weird, but definitely appreciated.

I happened to be grouped with a girl from here one night and we came across a player on 360 named FoxyLover. We were referring to the player as "her" the entire match until my teammate checked "her" profile. Yeah, it was a dude. I told her it would've been extremely awkward if I started hitting on "her". Glad she checked!

Children shouting to the mike or suspcious heavy breathers tend to ruin the fun a bit for me...

My wife and I play this together every week on PC. She usually plays an Engineer and I just go with whatever the team is lacking (usually Adept). She's a huge ME fan (Paragon, FemShep, Garrus Romance) but she found the MP grew stale really quick. Left 4 Dead has spoiled us both. She is always telling me how she thinks it's funny that I get more friend requests than she does even though she is generally above me on the scoreboard. She doesn't use the mic a whole lot so the other fellas must be shy because of her Origin ID or something.
Anyhow - just showing support for the female gamers out there. You are not alone. Back to our Medic/Support combo in BF3.
Nice to see other couples playing together. For me it makes gaming a lot more fun, even though it can be hard sometimes when we're both feeling very competetive. I like to point out to my husband that if our marriage survived RE5 on professional, it can survive anything.

My soon-to-be-marriage took a big hit, when she didn't revive me in L4D on Hard at the very end of the campaign.
I didn't talk to her for weeks.
I still don't. I think.

Dont be fooled people. Everything that sounds like a girl is a boy that hasn't hit puberty.
Bull crap. You'd be amazed about girls who play games.
The thing is simple: they do not look for any form of kinky fun, send boob pics etc. They just want to play. And doing that online is a pain in the butt.
I've seen, I've face palmed.

Nobody talks in PC matchmaking.
Ever.
It's kind of scary.
So all of that to say: I have no idea what the general demographic is on the PC. Not sure if it's more comforting to know this also happens on the ecksbawks. Let's be the icebreakers in our matches, damn it! Seriously, the people that do quick matches can't be that scary, right?
I've noticed this too, but I have a friend who adds random players.... a lot of them are European, or from Asia. And in relation to this thread, quite a few have been women.
I guess it depends on what time you play...
I don't add random people... Just european chicks and russian army officers... And it dosn't help that we only play when its their prime time... >.> I hate being a vampire sometimes.
