I've played every major MMO for the last couple years.

I actually saw a post on mmorpg.com about DAO that made me go pick it up.

I forgot how fun gaming can be.

MMOs suck. I can't believe I've spent so much time in games that just flat out suck.

Next up Balders Gate 2. or Mass Effect 2. or NVN 2 or something else with a great story and good game play.

Life's too short for ****ty gaming.

I'm with you there, after playing a number of MMOs they just don't hold your interest very long as things get so repetitive fast and there rarely is much of a storyline to begin with. Plus the NPC interaction in DA is adorable, love their bickering.Posted Image

I'm willing to give The Old Republic a chance, but other then that MMOs suck. Anyone who plays them are low life losers who need to get out the house. If your currently playing an MMo that insult is directed towards you. Get a life people, MMOs haven't saved you money. Look at Blizzards plan for WoW for instance. So far they have made a killing off of people from charging a monthly fee, and people are actually stupid enough to continue playing the same exact repetitive boring ****. So maybe you deserve to get the **** charged out of you. Then they go on to release 2 overpriced expansions for the game and have another one on the way. In the process they have completely ruined the Warcraft series as an RTS which is what the series started as and was up until WoW was released. Because you have allowed yourself to be exploited by Blizzard they are now releasing Starcraft 2 in 3 parts and you will still have to buy premium maps. They will probably do the same with Diablo 3. For all we know they could even charge for the use of battle.net now. You've let people like this get away with it until there is no longer a point in playing these games. If they aren't overpricing the **** out of the game, they are completely ruining a series by turning them into an MMOs and overpricing the **** out of them. Has it ever occured to you that maybe not everyone wants to play an MMO? Anyways if Bioware can pull off The Old Republic then maybe MMOs aren't completely hopeless, otherwise they need to be shutdown.

You insult people who have an different playstyle. thats childish.

and some bad arguments. WoW is pricy?? hahahaha! If I want to game cheap Il play WoW again!!!! You knows whats expensive? I'm waiting for GW2 so started playing different games again.

In the last month I bought CoD MW2 and DA:O. thats like 90 euros. I could have played 9 month WoW with that. serious, you are the one talking BS here. I still laugh at people who say wow people pay to much money. they pay 12 euros or so every month. while you buy like 1/2 games every month and complete em in 11 hours or so. (DA:O not ofc)

And why do you say eveyrone is low-life? I know alot of people who play MMO's. but only a few hours a week. Yh it is true that MMo's tend to atrract more hc gamers and no-lifers. but MMO are in general very addicting. And so is DA:O.

But, never mind you. obvious troll is obvious.

Guild Wars is an MMO, and I don't see money disappearing from my lack of playing it right now.
I will most likely play Guild Wars 2 when it comes out, if I have a computer that can run it.

I probably should be playing Guild Wars more often for the bonuses in GW2 from the hall of monuments *shrug*

you may change your mind again in a few weeks.

And with all the $5-$15 expansions pouring out for DAO a subscription based game is sounding cheaper.

there are no 15$ expansions....seeing as how the stone prisoner is free...soo...

you speak as if those three will be the only ones released Posted Image

You sure about your comment still?

yes. very sure. unless they release a much larger expansion, then maybe it will be closer to 15$. but one of the devs said on the questions about rto thread that the current price would pretty much be the going rate for the kind of stuff we are seeing. so no i didnt think these would be the only ones released, i just dont over exzxagerate and jump to conclusions. :innocent:

I will get back in the MMO fray when a little game called The Old Republic releases

Me as well, I have to see if Bioware can do MMOs as well as RPGs. Can't wait to try it! See y'all on the Old Republic forums > Shavhanz.

If you try BG2, there's tons of mods that'll enhance it.  You can check out the gibberlings3 site, Pocket Plane group, Spellhold Studios etc. Do a search, you'll find tons. Some add tweaks that enhance the game, some add npcs,  a whole bunch of stuff. If you want to play the first BG, there's BG tutu which allows you to play it using the BG2 engine so the graphics are better. There's also a npc pack at gibberings 3 for BG that really adds to it ( imo )
I can't say how many times I've played BG and BG2 ( both heavily modded now ) at least 2x a year for how ever long. Obviously the graphics aren't like modern games, but I really love them. BG2 moreso. It's nice the play the first BG though because you get a background on the npcs you meet again in BG2.

"Ahh..we are all heros; you and Boo and I. Hamsters and Rangers everywhere, rejoice!!"

Gibberlings3 are a godsend, if just for the higher resolution packs they put out for BG and PS:T.

Paying Blizzard 15 bucks a month to watch a bunch of arbitrary numbers go up and down never seemed like much fun to me. I played it casually for a month from a game card, then ditched it. It was mildly entertaining, but it quickly turned into a grind.

But, I really don't like all this 5-15 dollar DLC for DAO. Myself any many others want a real expansion pack.

OP you said it very well! I was playing WoW regularly until I bought DA. Once I started playing DA I just lost all interest in playing WoW. Now my subscription has run out, but I think I won't bother on renewing it anytime soon! :P

main reason i dont like MMO games is the degenerate community you are forced to play with in order to do anything at the end-game. the elitist pricks and basement dwellers and so on you are forced to be friendly to if you want to see that cool new raid... just ruins the whole thing for me.

if they could actually come up with a way to separate normal people away to their own servers i could probably enjoy them.

You might be surprised to find out that many people in those high level raid guilds are people with college degrees, careers, family, friends, etc. They just don't suck at the game, and they don't like having to teach others how to play the game. Just because they have different expectations from your own, doesn't make them basement dwellers or friendless losers.

thats a pretty standard reply which doesnt justify these peoples behavior at all.

when they are sitting on the game talking trash to everyone else, acting like pricks, and just generally being jerks to anyone who will give them the time of day there isnt much excuse for their behavior.

whats funny is the mmo games i have played im always considered an amazing player, im really good at games. im not one of those people who has no idea what they are doing, i put in the effort and i do very well. i constantly get people praising me and asking to do more things with me and so on.

the difference is im actually nice to the people i meet. i dont talk down to them, i dont treat them like dirt, and i dont have this superiority complex i need to impress other people on a video game with.

no matter how nice i am it never fails that you run into these pricks that arnt even very good at the game, yet treat everyone around them like they are crap. the behavior has spread so much in most the mmo games that its just accepted as normal and they dont even realize what kind of pricks they are being, they think its normal.

i just cant stand that at all. i might talk junk on forums to people, but i separate that from the in-game people i know and play with. i  treat those people with respect like they are my equal. it seems most people cant do that and just continue to treat people bad even when they are sitting there playing the game with them.

a simple example is you are doing a raid, something goes wrong and you have an issue:

me - "what happened there, do we need to change something?"

****** - "lololol you guys suck, lrn2play, worst group ever"

I totally agree with you and I've seen the scenario you described at the end happen almost verbatim several times.  My WoW account is still open but I haven't made more than a cameo appearance since Nov. 3rd.  I just can't bring myself to play it because it is not fun.  All you do is grind for gear.  You're either grinding raid content or arenas but either way, you're on a damn hamster wheel.

I have come to the realization that I wasn't playing MMOs for the game itself, I was playing to BS with my friends on ventrilo.  That's why I never last long in a MMO that I don't know other people playing.  The games themselves are shallow and boring.

I agree. When I get a smile on my face and laugh out loud from the storyline in DA:O, I can't remember the last time I did that in a MMORPG. They pale in comparison to the richness of DA:O.

both those are around 1 hour of content each and represent smaller dlc add-ons. This is stated in  developer posts and not simply my opinion. There will be larger add-ons.

Now with games like lotro as low as $9/mo we are getting pretty close are we not? If anything the more I think about this the more confident I become in believing that DAO might be considered a premium game based on cost if one where to continue purchasing the DLC as it came out.

MMO's do not have a lot of content.. It just takes a **** long time to get the items you want. It took med 4 months of raiding to gear up my priest on WoW cause some other bastard in my guild always rolled higher than me.. The time it take for you to get items is what keeps you going in an MMO

Hello fellow former WoW priest. :)

That most MMO have soul-snatching qualities combined with tedious minutia does not mean there couldn't be one good MMO.

I think Chronicles of Spellborn was onto a good thing when it removed loot and everything, the problems of that game were only the actual gameplay and kind of annoying quests. The character generator was awkward too.

I know someday, someone will finally develop the Holy Grail of MMOs, but so far they fall short.

I personally think that 10-man raiding in WoW with friends is very fun and rewarding but one starts to think how similar it got to Team Fortress 2.

WoW was stripped out of every RPG element. I hope that the next in line knows how to balance things better.
