king Maric

In the new Dragon Age comic, King Maric is revealed to be alive. I know the comic is Bioware's canon not ours, but I'm wondering if King Maric really is alive and if Alistair would mention it at all in DA3 if we made him king. So many questions...

Since Gaider has said in the past that Maric died at sea, and the comic has contained conflicting/wrong information in past issues (Isabela claims she hired Zevran to kill her husband in the comic VS Isabela is adamant her husband's assassin was not hired by her in DA2), who knows?
Alistair could come away believing Maric's alive even if it's not Maric.

But then there's also a codex in DAII that says that Maric was lost at sea, where much money was spent from Ferelden's treasury -- by Loghain himself -- to find the man, and rumors persisted on where he was being held.
And I think it would be incredibly cheap for this guy....

....to not be King Maric Theirin, given he has the requisite beard of awesomeness.

Not that it wouldn't be the first time a character was brought back to life/declared not dead to begin with.

Despite conflicting sources etc, Flemeth said he wouldn't live to see the blight and I take Flemeth's foresight seriously!

"That's the rumor"
Bioware loves speculation though.

Technically speaking, she was still right. He didn't live to see the Blight. He was imprisoned during the Blight's occurence in his home country, and so he didn't live to see the Blight.

Im thinking that either A) He's already dead in the comic books (We've only seen him in flashbacks from 10 years ago where he left with Yavanna) orhe will die by the end of the comic book, probably a heroic sacrifice saving his son or something

Alistair and company is going to rescue him, and they are going to have a touching father/son moment. Then.... BAM!!! A battle starts and Maric dies protecting Alistair from someone (or a spell) that was coming from behind him. While Maric is dieing in Alistair's arms (after the battle of course), Maric reveals a shocking secret. Either: who Alistair's mom is, something about Loghain, how much he hates Flemeth and her swooping, or foreshadowing to future events. Most likely the foreshadowing...
Alistair then starts to grieve. He then vows vengence on Orlais and any group that might have been involved in the battle.
And thus, another Loghain is born.....
MHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA...... MHAHAHAHAHAHAHA...... MHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!
Well, maybe not that last part.

Plus the story started to fall apart a little in Dragon Age 2. One example being that Leliana is alive and with the chantry in DA 2 even if she dies or is hardend in Origins

Thinking on this statement, I'd actually really love if something like this happened that was really lifechanging, causeing him to reconsider things, reform his opinions on life and become a more cold, calculating & serious person

If I remember correctly,I believe the comic will have essential information that is vital to the history, lore, and cannon of the game for the future, so says the discription of the comic and story.

We do find out what the deal was that Maric made with Flemeth, well sort of. My guess on King Maric's fate...
a) He was sent there to protect a certain dragon and daughter and died protecting them.
I learned that the Theirin Bloodline seems to be important.
It really is to bad this wasn't dlc to play.

*Spoilers Below*
Well Apart from being the bloodline of the Ferelden Royal family its not really made clear that it is important, When The Dragon doesn't attack him because he has the Elder Blood I took it as his Elven Blood from Fiona being his mother

Blah blah blah, blah blah blah, filler words....
Interesting...
The Silent Grove is a haven for Dragons to continue existing and their survival is apparently something that needs to continue. If they die, mankind is doomed.
Interesting....
More filler words. blah blah blah blah, blah blah, blah blah blah.....
