Also don't forget that there are probably millions of people of all races now stranded around Earth. None of the fleets that came can go home now, and there is no way the Earth can supports all of them, mainly the Turians, who can't eat any of our food. So, they're all dead. And it's been established that destroying Mass Relays destroys the system it's in. Destroying the relays essentially cripples the galaxy- I guess this is the last Mass Effect game ever?

And I doubt the Quarians brought their liveships to the final fight.  Probably left them on Rannoch with the civilians to help get things started for after the war.

Also Mass effect cannot be mass effect without the relays. That's like Star Trek without warp drive. You literally killed the universe by getting rid of the relays.

Um what?

Seriously, Mass Effect refers to what happens when current is passed through eezo.

Eezo is an element of the universe and nothing in the game implies that the reapers actually created eezo since we actually know how eezo is created...

Again, for those out there... Mass Effect DOES NOT REFER TO THE RELAYS..It refers to Eezo which is used by both the relays and standard FTL drives...

(As an aside, looked through the galaxy map and I think Palaven is 5 years away from Earth by standard FTL..

Hey remember the stargazer scene, remember what the developers said how it is 10,000 years in the future and no one has fixed the whole no more space travel mess? The glaxay is literally plunged in a dark age without the relays.

We don't have the relays in real life. We're all living here on Earth with each other. It's terrible and totally not worth it if I can't go into space.

Here is a thought, Bioware might be planning to take the series in a new direction for the next game and give it a completely different setting. They might even have some great ideas that can only work in said setting that is divorced from what made the current triology great. I personally would like to see more original stories being told and not rehash the same old formula. You know, the kind of thing that always leads to a series becoming stale but for some reason nobody believes it'll happen to Mass Effect. We should just keep on playing with the same set of toys forever and it'll be swell right?

My question is why is it so bad to have a happy ending, considering the journey Shepard went on. Hasn't Shepard earned it ?

Turn off your computer right now, and throw it away. In fact, eschew electricity alltogether. Live in a tent in a forest.
Then do so for the rest of your life. Would you consider that a suitable future for yourself?

Star Trek: Deep Space Nine -  took  Star Trek in a new direction, instead of being stationed ship, it was  set on a  Space Station... they did not  remove, anything about Star Fleet, destoryed Warp drive or  destory all  Tech in  Galaxy.
No this whole , there taking the series in the new direction is completely bunk.  The torched the franchise and stop shot of a  Kill'em all endings. You only do those 2 things when  you have one thing  in mind - killing the universe you created.

You don't end a series buy breaking is back bone  if you want to continue you it...  what Mass Effect 3 ending does is kill the whole thing

Survival is human nature, so yes. People can build more technology over time, can't build anything if no one is around anymore.

If you don't like the direction the series is going, don't play it, or make up your own stories. Why spend all your time complaining nonstop. Go do something you enjoy instead.

DSN might be a twist on the same formula, but it is not anything new at the end of the day. Bioware has done something that not many creators have been willing to do, that doesn't make it objectively right or wrong.

One, the current Mass Effect universe is not fully fleshed out and there are a ton of stories that can be done within the setting; if we can set different stories in a contemporary setting why not Mass Effect's setting? Two, BioWare has (had?) enough name power that they create new settings to do stories that they cannot do in their current universes (Jade Empire, Mass Effect, and Dragon Age)

The Beam of happines overcharges and depletes the Mass Effect (EEZO) cores of the mass relays and the reaper ships, so is possible to assume the same **** happens to all the fleet ships.

No Mass Effect Reactors = no FTL, heck they barely have life support :/

They can create that setting through DLC or in the fourth game, not the last fifteen minutes of a trilogy. I couldn't care less about some random Turian who is a long lost descent of the Turian Councilor I've wanted to punch for five years. I care about Garrus. If the new series, different direction and all, were good. People would buy it on its own merit. Right now, people are infuriated with BioWare and may never touch the Mass Effect IP again.

Maybe they don't have any desires or material left to do any more stories within the current setting. Would you rather they exercised their own creative ability and try to tell the most interesting story they can come up with, or keep writing about the same stuff just because the fanbase wants more.

Deep Space Nine isn't a twist on a similar formula, it's a different breed of story set in the Star Trek universe. Saying that it is nothing more than a different take is like saying that a romantic comedy set in New York is the same as a gritty crime story set in New York.

Also, there is a very good reason that not many creators do what BioWare did, which can be seen with a quick look at the forums.

That was not the question she asked. She asked if you'd consider it a suitable future. Survival or not is irrelevant. We as an evolved species have already overcome the primary survival need of any species, to be relegated to it after so many years of "search of happiness" is just cruel, and not really suitable as a future.

Our current future, or what everyone looks forward is happiness, better wealth, better understanding, better everything, we do not look forward to survive another day (although sadly, there are still countries in this world were it's people do need to survive, and as you may have noticed it isn't something easy nor to disrespect.).

And that is true, but you can complain, discuss and hope for a change. If they decide to stick to their guns, you bet people is going to gtfo of the way of BioWare.

It's still the same setting with similar storytelling that simply focuses on character arcs instead. And just because an opinion is popular doesn't make it  the 'right' one.

Even if you allow for the mass effect and eezo to still work as they did before, a lot of people still don't seem to get that even with FTL travel, getting between star systems isn't just a matter of "Well, it'll take months or years, but you can still do it."  According to the lore established by the games, travel between star systems is LITERALLY impossible with the current technology.  The Normandy runs out of fuel if you take too long getting between different solar systems; between those solar systems is the black emptiness of dark space, without any fuel sources or any place to discharge your engines.  I quote from the codex entry "FTL Drive: Drive Charge"

As positive or negative electric current is passed through an FTL drive core, it acquires a static electrical charge. Drives can be operated an average of 50 hours before they reach charge saturation. This changes proportionally to the magnitude of mass reduction; a heavier or faster ship reaches saturation more quickly.

If the charge is allowed to build, the core will discharge into the hull of a ship. All ungrounded crew members are fried to a crisp, all electronic system are burned out, and metal bulkheads may be melted and fused together.

The safest way to discharge a core is to land on a planet and establish a connection to the ground, like a lightning rod. Larger vessels like dreadnoughts cannot land and must discharge into a planetary magnetic field.

So how are we talking about months or years of travel time, when a ship can't last for more than 50 hours of constant operation without a planet to discharge into?

And again, we could say that we develop some sort of technology to counteract this issue, but again, this is not established in the game whatsoever, and goes right back to the player having to write their own fanfic to fix this terrible, nihilistic ending.

RESPIRATORS ON, PEOPLE!

P.S. A pyjak peed in one of the respirators, but I don't remember which one.

Yeah, there is a phrase (and a trope) for what BioWare did: Torch the Franchise and Run.
