I don't care about gameplay (although shooting bad guys is always fun). I play for the story.
Who plays games for the story?

It's all about the story. I wont play a game period if it has a bad story

The interactive story- I need to be able to affect the game to get invested.

Story, plot, character progression, I can forgive a clunky combat system and control interface if the story grips me.
ME1 was just that, a little clunky and inflexible control wise, but the story just kept me involved, even down to the elevator conversations, I miss those.

Story. Without a doubt.

Right here. If the gameplay is very very poor, then I won't bother either way. But yeah...a Bioware game...I'm not playing for any other reason than the story.

I would say both, but then again I liked Just Cause 2 so I guess more for the gameplay.

I play for a combination of story, characters and gameplay. But story and characters can put me off more than the gameplay does.

I play for the story. I have a feeling most Bioware fans lean heavily toward story. No one who plays for action could love Dragon Age.

Both, but I definitely have more emphasis on story.

I come for the gameplay. I stay for the story. But mainly story

Plot and story, I can forgive a clunky combat system if the plot keeps me involved.
ME1 was a prime example of this, slightly clunky combat, awesome plot, and those elevator loading screens... Awesome!

Both for me....although I'll lean towards the gameplay..
Mainly because most games these days will always have a way to find out/read about the story without even playing the game...

Story but if the gameplay is awful or boring, I will lose interest

I buy First-Person-Shooters out of craving for action and an ingrained desire for all things firearms.
I buy Strategy Games, (Total War, almost exclusively), for a sense of accomplishment.
I buy Role-Playing Games for their seemingly unique capacity to present relationships and provide depth of character.
Story is the element which turns play into something profound.

I've been playing games for the story ever since I realized games could have compelling stories.
Back in the day, I'd say it was probably KOTOR that got me on that path.
To me, a well done game story is far more moving than a film or even book, because the player immersion really does make you part of the action. This is why I'm such a Bioware fan - they take the storytelling power of games as an integral part.
That's not to say gameplay doesn't matter to me at all. I certainly like that too, and play the odd game for the fun. In most cases though, I'll play a game with good story and bad gameplay before I'd play the opposite.

Hm, mostly story.
I can get throu an amazingly dull gameplay if the story is good, i cant do the same if the gameplay is amazing and the story is nonexistent.

I focus mainly on story for Bioware games, but gameplay is also important. If it's not fun to play, you won't see me playing it

Easily both. Story and game have a synergistic relationship. One strengthens the other conversely they can weaken each other. Non story games have to have the tightest and most playable mechanics to make up for the lack of story.
