Kai Leng's email was an example of how much of a wannabe he is, trying so hard to outmatch Shepard and talking smack along the way. He should have died on the Citadel, if the game hadn't assumed my Shepard(s) were incompetent. Oh, and the comic was funny.

(Rather than shoot at this moron while he's on the flying car, can't I just launch a biotic throw at him? Or set him on fire with Incinerate? Or do a barrel roll and send him falling to his death?)

Seriously, Kai Leng was a joke.

Kai Leng is like the evil Conrad Verner. Except I can take Conrad Verner a bit more seriously.

OP that comic is the only good writing I've seen involving Kai Leng. Kai Leng was a terrible antagonist, his plot armor was obnoxious and the blocking bullets with his hands was pretty ridiculous. He had no place in Mass Effect and instead should join the Grey Fox and Raiden in Metal Gear Solid. ME3's script writing really falls the **** apart on Thessia and KL is at the center of it.

Kai Leng was the guy that the Illusive Man got at the last minute to replace Miranda. No, wait, he was the guy that the Illusive man got to replace the robot that was replacing Miranda.

I don't think he was ever meant to seem like a major threat to Shepard. Just an annoying douche. You can tell by the way Shepard mocks him in the Illusive Man's office, and how Shepard never really takes him seriously.

Yet the guy meant to just be an annoying douche is extremely influential in a very key moment on Thessia. If he had just stayed as an annoying bad guy to eventually deal with that would be fine, however Thessia elevated him to the role of one of the primary antagonists which is ridiculous.

Kai Leng is simply the personification of the problem with ME3 - your actions have no impact. In the first two encounters, the outcomes are predetermined - you cannot change them. They are forced on the player irrespective of what you do. The third encounter felt like I was playing an 1980's video game - he appears, moves in, does some stuff, then retreats, some random add's appear, then he moves in, retreats, more adds.

I ignored his "bait" mail as I believe Shepard would.

The gunship was the influential one on Thessia, Leng didn't really do anything. I do think it would have been better if Eva Cores had remained a villain past the Mars mission though. She actually seemed threatening.

Right behind his lameness was the whole Dr. Eva chase. I'm 3' behind her the whole way until the climb up to the ladder before she jumps into the shuttle. The entire time raking her back with my assault rifle and she's sprinting like it's the Olympics. 40 seconds later, 5-6 shots from my sidearm and she's dead.

It's even better when you're a Vanguard, and Charging into her does nothing but boost her forward like a crazy bumper cart

Kai Leng is one of the most ill conceived antagonists I've seen in a video game in quite some time. He's a complete cutscene warrior, I took absolutely no damage from him in either fight, yet he came out 'victorious' in the first two encounters with him.

He felt like a poorly written fanfiction character, and more of an annoyance than an actual threat. Actually, Cerberus in general felt that way.

Kai Leng was a POSER. The guy kept posing with his sword like that was gonna do anything. Hell, his Phantom buddies are more lethal than he was lol.

Yea, I think BW has not had much luck with boss battles. Harbinger in ME2 was more bad ass than Kai Lang. Everytime Harbinger took over on Insanity, I was like "Oh ****".

Yeah, but those 5-6 shots came after she got a shuttle crashed into her. I think she had reaper tech shields, like Kai Leng did. The major question is why she suddenly became a whimp when EDI took over.

I looked forward, since reaidng the books, to handing some humble pie to Kai Leng. I also had a feeling that when he actually met Shepard and his squad, that he would look like a fool. I was proven right.
In my play through:
-Citadel: fails to kill the council, held off by a dying Thane, who mocks him on his death bed. runs away
- Thessia: Needs a gun ship to blow up the floor to succeed., runs away
--Sends Childish Email to Shep. Seriously if you have to tell people you are cool...your not.
-Sanctuary: Held off by Miranda, possibly aided by Henry who creates distraction (speculation for everyone), ends up getting a tracer planted on him by Miranda and does not notice it. runs away
-Fails miserably at Cerberus base, goes out like a chump.

Harbinger was more "Not again, didn't he get the memo the last dozen time. I'm getting retina burn from his attenpts to take control."

Kai Leng was more "was that a pothole?" :?

He said 'shoot the support', but still got a straight and solid line to the VI while the others are trying not to fall... Well Shep at least...
A bit too convenient, for my taste. Borderline bad storytelling...

One of the very worst parts of the game was the forced defeat at the hands of that turkey just to show how tough he was going to be. You should never railroad the player into actual game play battles that they cannot win. If they wanted to advnace the story that way they should have just used a cutscene or something.

For guys that mock JRPGs they sure love to take ideas from them.

Agreed. For people who say "we didnt do X thing because it was too 'video gamy' " they sure do alot of cliche 'video gamy" things

Space ninja exists to infuriate the player. Unfortunately he comes across as way too over the top for the universe.

Also, if Shepard was allowed to shoot him after Thane knocked him on his ass we wouldn't be having this conversation.

I'd characterize it more as "successfully sneaks up on an unsuspecting, unarmed Miranda with a gigantic freaking sword. Gets his ass kicked so bad that he has to run away".

Yeah Kai Leng was something of a ******. That email made me go "Really, you are that much of a troll?" now that I think about it. Also isn't there something shep says that refers to the fact that Anderson shot him in both legs? I Also got the sense that TIM knew he was kind of a ****** and expected Shepard to get the best of him usually.

For some reason I remember being beat by Shepard's habit of losing his biotics in cutscenes. I also remember something about an invincible gunship. Might be why that email seemed thoroughly ridiculous.
