I thought Imoen was cute. Shame she was my sister. <_<

I'd perfer her over butch Auntie Jaheria (from your foster father's generation), and the whiny elf (which I tended to be with in my first few playthroughts). Oh well, as least we get the gamer's fantasy - hot drow chick. (A single classed non-Good priest too!)

I for one am sick, seriously sick of super slick game that has no story. The story and characters are often what make the game world alive. This to me is the most important, and I gotta admit, Dragon Age did a superior job at fleshing these two aspects out.

The only thing from oblivion that beat DA:O is its open play.Hate DA:O forced fast travel. :(

but overall i prefer DA:O because of it amazing story, length, characters, graphics and soundtrack

Oblivion on the PC, modded so it removed the console limitations, looks pretty fricking awesome (on an awesome PC that can run it). No fog, complete render, you can see everywhere from the fortress.

Actually, it's more impressive on Morrowind having unlimited draw distances - it's beautiful.

Yes but they all let you interact with their world while DAO  does not. Can you go about killing whole villages in DAO?  No. Can your party start fighting so someone dies or leaves the group? No.

Erm, yes you can actually.

Can you? I haven't found a way to draw a bow on a creature from a distance, without engaging in dialog or visual line-of-sight combat activation; much less just start randomly killing villagers. Am I missing something?

They're entirely two different games.

DA:O = story driven closed world, party based combat, and great decision/consequence interplay

Oblivion = open world with a weak story, solo based combat, with little consequences for your decisions (No getting thrown in jail for whatever length is not a consequence, it's not like you have to sit there for the time your character is jailed).

As for replay value, we'll have to see how the modding community develops, but as it stands right now Oblivion Mods >> Dragon Age Mods.

If I could only play one style of RPG, I'd go sandbox. Still, I'm very happy that I have the opportunity to choose "some of each, please." I personally see both Oblivion and Dragon Age as "glorious, if flawed." Having recently restarted my archmage at level one because the available choices just didn't work for her, I'm perhaps feeling the constraints of the Bioware style of game particularly harshly,

ok who gives two ****s! jeez this game will proly progress into having expanisons like Guild Wars, World of Warcraft, and Call Of Duty. Trust me Oblivion was good, but lemme say this i have not played DA people, including my friends, have said the graphics suck and the cinematics dont even come on before you go and meet someone else to team up with(NPC). So with that being said, it dose not matter, you guys act like your having nerdrage. GET THE **** OVER IT, you guys have your own opinions, and i have mine. It doesn't matter unless someone gives a ****, which obviously, i dont and if you haven't come to figure that out, you are one dumb mother ****er just like this ****** weiner diddler named Dextr1701 who lives in his mother's basement probably. And it wa YOUR MOM who was getting of the bus to blow me, i still, STILL havent payed her back, robably not ever, cause she SUCKS AT SUCKING DICK just like i heard you do too Dex who likes dix in his trail mix. BOOM and go **** a gay cat you queer, jesus! and go let your goddamn one pube ball sac drop, ok! I'VE probably gotten more p***y(sorry i know you have sensative ears your mother told me)than your mom and dad have gotten in 40 years(which for your dad is about 1, and its not 2 its one his own mother doesn't count or his 3 fingers. But your mom exceeds that, she has done vaginas atleast 24 times). Have a nice day m8 cherio!

If there was a game that combined the freedom and attention to detail of Oblivion, and the compelling story elements and character interaction of Dragon Age, it would be awesome.

I would argue that Oblivion did have memorable characters . . . but player interaction with them was extremely lacking. And every time I found one that was really interesting, it seems like they got killed off. :-\\

I thought Imoen was cute. Shame she was my sister.

Haha, they still made a romance mod for her.

There were some consequences for what your character did . . . except if they were part of a storyline, there was no way to escape them (ie, the Dark Brotherhood fiasco). ]

Oblivion = weak story is a subjective view. If you mean just the main quest, then yeah, I'd have to agree. But if you just play the main quest and do nothing else, you're missing like 93% of the game. The DB questline made my stomach do flips at certain points, and is therefore my favorite.

The DB quests in Oblivion were definitely great. The one where you were locked in the house with all the other "guests" is one of my favorite quests of all games of all time. Very enjoyable!

I had no problem with Oblivion's story or graphics. I just hated the leveling system, class system (way too customizable for my tastes, give me defined separate classes) and the scaling of items and monsters.

DA:O the story is also great, much better leveling system. The scaling is done better on the quests/monsters and but just as bad with the loot (grr). Actually loot in DA:O in general needs work. Something not very epic to barely beat 10 body guards, a boss and unlock a chest in a Denerim headquarters and to walk away with some elf root, 38 silver, a lesser injury kit and a studded leather tier 2 pair of gloves when my characters are decked out in tier 7 gear with 400 gold.

Both games sucked away huge chunks of my real life. I love them both in different ways. I don't want to think one is better than the other.

Dragon Age = set-piece = better story, less freedom

Oblivion = open-world = transparent story, tons of freedom

In the end, I prefer Oblivion.

I prefer DAO to Oblivion, but I think I preferred Morrowind to both of them.  If Morrowind's world and story had been made with Oblivion's engine, it would come close to being my favorite RPG of all time.

A point was made about driving force before, but while the Blight supposedly drives you to do the vast majority of your tasks in DA:O, in Oblivion all the extra material are basically irrelevant to the story.

It's not a big novel, it's a random shelf in your library. That's why it's not "story driven". TES games have always been player-driven. You go explore and do stuff because that's what you do. Not what your character is supposed to do. In fact, for the roles given them, many of the sidequests and adventures would be out of character - spending a few weeks wandering ruins and killing random creatures when you're supposed to be closing (the OMG so freaking many and all alike) Gates?

After playing this once and starting a second game, I'm struggling to maintain interest. I'm going back to Oblivion. I just can't see making a mod here when everything is the same, you can't get off the path to explore, and you pay for an official mod that keeps you outside the doors in the snow after you win the castle. Cripes!

I don't know about Oblivion as I have never played it. However so far I have liked DA alot more then I do Fallout 3. Not taking much away from Fallout 3 as it did some good things for me, but DA has made me put Fallout 3 on the back shelf. I have just enjoyed the experiance with DA a whole lot more. I guess I just related to the characters and even emotionaly in DA far more then I did in fallout 3.

I never played Oblivion, but I played the one before it, Morrowind, and it sucked, big time. The world was so dull and lifeless, the quests were often boring, and there was limited variation on the monsters, and even those ones were crappy and plain to look at. And I hate how it levels up based on how much you use something. Want to get better at wearing armor? Just stand around and let a weak enemy hit you. Want to get better at a spell? Just cast a weak version of it while targeting nothing over and over and over and over and over.

There was some haggle skill that would give you better prices when buying and selling stuff. You could actually buy something and immediately sell it back at a higher price to the same vendor. Oh, and none of the vendors had any large amounts of money. You had to sell something expensive at a tiny fraction of its value. But there was expensive stuff to buy, and you couldn't barter with the valuable stuff you had.

I never had an urge to play Oblvivion because of how much crappy Morrowind was.

Well i have played it, and its every bit as good as Dragons Age, if not better in many ways, if you never played it do yourself a HUGE favor and give it a try. PC version is by far the best.

It sounds like you don't enjoy TES gameplay then, and this is a fair point. I will say in its time Morrowind had amazing graphics and was a great story, but I have to agree with you I found the leveling/class system to be not my tastes.  You were right to avoid Oblivion because it carried over those aspects (all TES will) but added in really bad scaling for monsters and weapons (think common road bandits living in tents but having equipment that costs more than the nicest house).

You don't know what you're talking about. I'm serious.

All his complaints about Morrowind are complaints about TES.
