So now I'm taking a month-long break and limiting it to 2-3 playthroughs with 2-3 characters. First with the Dalish Archer, later a Casteless Warrior (evil playthrough), and maybe another elven mage to play as an Arcane Warrior.
Otherwise? I just really like talking about it.

So, I just started a new playthrough a few days ago and I find that I still enjoy DAO. Even though I know some of the dialogue almost word for word, I still get drawn into the story. It may have developed a bit of an antique patina, but it is vintage. Rare vintage.

However, I have finally managed to go back and enjoy Origins for what it is, even if I now know that the story will never be finished. I truly love the game and its characters, so they're worth going back and revisiting every now and again, disappointment aside...
I really like the mage story and usually play as an Elven mage. I've also beaten the game with a Dalish and City Elf. The Elven mage is my favorite though, just because as both an Elf and a mage the Warden is doubly the underdog, yet winds up accomplishing the extraordinary and saving the world. It's highly satisfying for me to see an Elven mage serving as the Warden Commander and sitting in as the Arl of Amaranthine. ^.^
For my mage, I enjoy the Arcane Warrior and Spirit Healer a lot - I'm too much of a goody two shoes to play a Blood Mage. Usually when I play a Dalish or City Elf I play as a rogue. Bard/assassin or assassin/duelist is fun, but a Dalish ranger is also nice just because the ranger class is so fitting for a Dalish Elf. ^.^
I did play as both a Noble and Common Dwarf as well, but as I don't much care for Dwarves I did not stick with the characters. I'll beat the game as a Dwarf one of these days. Maybe.
As for a human character, forget it. I played the human Origin story just to get the trophy, but after that I deleted the character. I just don't like playing humans, especially in a fantasy game. As I have said before; I'm a human every day of my life. I go to work as a human, I come home as a human, I eat and sleep as a human. Why would I ever want to play a human in a fantasy game? Just my thoughts on the matter.

My first complete play through was as a female elf mage. I think I want to be a female city elf rouge next. I normally don't like elves, but the Dragon Age twist makes them more appealing to me. I like the idea of a city elf saving the world, a world that shuns her.
In my first play though, I was the healer and used Alistair, Liliana, and Sten almost exclusively. I wasn't that impressed with Liliana, so as the rouge I can replace her with the PC. I can use Wynn this time as my healer. I want to keep Alistair as my tank and I don't know who I want to have as my 4th party member. I might stick with Sten, as I like his character. I don't like Zev or the Dwarf, and the Dog was never that interesting to me. I don't dislike the dog, but I like it when characters react and interact in conversations... and Dog doesn't.

Now I'm playing DA 2, and am already thinking about doing another Origins playthrough.
Since Dragon Age 2 recycles environments, it seems unlikly that I'll do to many playthoughs for that

Having avoided DAO like I usually avoid popular things because popular tends to be the equivalent of hyped, I only just began playing DAO a couple months ago, so I'm one of those "still" playing DAO because I'm new to it. And thus DA2 isn't even on the horizon for consideration, my "religious" playing of DAO only just underway... I seem to share the "perfectionism" a few mentioned, constantly starting and ditching chars based on their builds or appearance, especially when learning new things about the game or acquiring new mods that alter gameplay qualitatively. Almost got too sick of seeing Ostagar from redo's to play DAO anymore... almost... I've spent hours on the game just in the character creator alone... then subsequently deleted the chars. lol Fortunately that time doesn't get logged in the character story or my games would be an average of 200+hrs... Then there's the time taking screenshots and editting them (since I haven't found a mod that strips the screen down to the base camera yet). It's pretty much a DAO-every-day thing at the moment...kopitestu79 wrote...

There's just so much to enjoy about the game, it offsets the irkiness, clunkiness, and limitations of other aspects. I've already done all the origin stories (couldn't help my curiosity, regardless of any "achievement" points), and though I love the city elf origin, I overwhelmingly prefer the dwarf areas and experience due to how much content was developed for it, and find myself humming the background music of Orzammar as well when I'm not playing. Orzammar feels like home, particularly as a dwarf commoner. I guess being told I'm not welcome everywhere I go feels like home. lol... I also like the mage identity, so I totally wish I could play a dwarf mage somehow. If only someone would spend days and days of their lives reworking all the spells to be deliverable from a dwarf height, I'd use that mod in heartbeat!
I'm not sure about the replayability of DAO over the long run, but it's extremely engaging initially and does have countless different game-changing decisions that affect later outcomes... so there's a heap of fully voiced and cutscened content to discover by playing slightly differently. Companion interactions are quite good- both for the voices and the writing- and have repeatedly gotten me chuckling. I just a few hrs ago discovered the Cadash Thaig: such a picturesque area that you can't get to except by *spoilers*. The charm of the game is both in the plethora of such discoveries and how the origin stories play into the later story- even when you're not playing that particular origin. All the interlacing storylines are brilliant. The quality of the character creator is another plus, and using the standalone CC I've amassed a number of chars (and various versions of them) in the wings- whether or not they ever get brought into an actual game...

I havent gotten DA2 yet... I know many were upset about the game... But DA:O was soooo great that.... That I might have to get DA2 lol
I really wouldn't recommend that. While Dragon Age: Origins was a truly great game Dragon Age 2 did not add anything good to the franchise. Dragon Age 2 does not follow the same RPG format of Origins; it does not have strong - or even interesting - characters, it does not have a well thought out, in-depth story and it does not answer any of the questions that Origins left us with.
Dragon Age 2 failed to pick up where Origins left off. In fact, it does just the opposite. Rather than continuing with the interesting stories that Dragon Age: Origins started, BioWare chose to completely ignore everything that happened in the game in favor of starting anew - completely - with a new hero and a new, very poorly devised, plot. Truly, Dragon Age 2's plot is paper thin; as though they just threw it in there merely so the character would have some feeble excuse to do things. It's the sort of story even a non-writer could come up with in 15 minutes of casual thinking.
As far as the games Dragon Age: Origins and Dragon Age 2 are concerned, their only similiarity is their shared name. Otherwise, you would do well to consider them as completely separate - no relation to one another whatsoever. They just both happen to take place on Thedas. Everything that RPG lovers enjoyed about Origins was removed in DA2.
On the other hand, the combat was improved somewhat. That's really all Dragon Age 2 has to offer over Origins - and a voiced protagonist, though I view that as one of DA2's negative features as it greatly limited the player's freedom of choice; no real moral choices, a set beginning and you are forced to play as a human, period. If combat is what's most important to you and you don't mind recycled environments with nary a new sight to be found no true plot to be had and a soulless, utterly static, cookie-cutter 'hero' , then by all means give it a try. However, if it was Origins' story, characters and its plethora of moral choices that gripped you, Dragon Age 2 will prove to be a terrible waste of money and time. My advice would be to rent it before you actually buy it. That way, if you don't like it, you won't have to regret throwing away your money.
That is just my humble advice, though.

Not to down DAO, but a few travel encounter areas are repeated in DAO as well- both along the road and particularly the Denerim street encounters. I won't count the "repeated" origin areas since it's just fantastic to return to the origin area a second time to find things dramatically changed. Not sure about the scope of DA2 though: the extensiveness of DAO areas make those few repetitions quite bearable, whereas a smaller scale game with repeated areas might be a bit bleh.cJohnOne wrote...
I enjoyed DA2 if you see it as just a side story it's not that big a deal. Sometimes you see the same cave in the game but I don't find that to be that bad either...

I'm currently in my 4th play through of Origins and Awakening. My first play through was as the basic Human Noble, warrior class. Secondly I went with a rogue City Elf. My last play through was a casteless Dwarf. Now I'm working with a Human mage.

On a side not, has anyone seen the Dragon's Dogma game? It's set to be the GOTY 2012... it looks epic! It's supposed to be the nearest thing to Dragon Age: Origins you can get without playing Dragon Age. I'll be buying it and giving it a bash
