After many playthroughs on Xbox I just bought it for the mac. Started my first PC (it is identical to PC version as far as I can tell) run through just a few days ago. I'm loving it mostly, though a few things were better on Xbox, mostly it is HUGE improvement for my favorite game ever.
I am only using no helmet mod, after this run through, I will try some mods.
Man, I love this game. 10 playthroughs or so, no end in sight. (what a difference to the 1 1/2 DA2 plays I did, bored silly by the end)
So true!

I picked it up again recently. My first character sacrificed herself so I've still not played Awakening although I bought it on release. I prefer playing a mage but am currently trying a Cousland rogue to see what it's like not to be dumped by Alistair.
Although it may not seem to make any sense, it is possible to import a character that was sacrificed in DAO into the Awakenings campaign.
When you start Awakenings, it will ask if you want to import a character from another module. Just choose the option that allows you to do that. The character will be magically become alive again.
Thanks for the tip! However, I was so frustrated I deleted my saves, so no import even if I were willing to suspend disbelief.

IMHO, DA:O was a great example of endings done right. An ending doesn't always have to be a perfectly happy one. It's more important that it doesn't pull stupid stunts like ME3's ending did, and commit grievous writing 101 blunders as, again, ME3's ending did.
The human origin is interesting as it ties closely to the plot, and leaves you with an even greater motivation to fight Loghain... or one of his henchmen.
The best origin stories, or at least the ones I liked the most, were the dwarven ones though - especially the dwarven commoner origin makes for a satisfying game experience.

I agree with you that the ending is great although I'm a bit disapointed because I knew a lot about it before playing it, it's like the KotOR "you're Revan" big spoiler anyone knows about, Morrigan and her "Cthulhu child" has been spoiled all over the internet so no suprise for me ='(
The only problem I've got with dwarves is... they are dwarves I like them and all but I'm a very tall guy and I can identify to one of them =(
But anyway I'm ready to replay the game completely for my happy ending, this is what I like: having the POSSIBILITY to achieve an happy ending even though it's really hard

I only play a little nowdays though as my project takes up most of my time, sometimes a few battles in the original campaign is enough to encourage me to keep going with my own work. I don't like it AS much as I did, but thats because I know whats coming and I kinda dont want to "Finish" the game as thats all there is (so to speak) Having said that however I have yet to play ALL of awakening or any of GOA and Witch Hunt. Must....have....content....must...have...Alistair

Played four playthroughs since December 2009 (Dalish Elf Warrior (Ritual, Zevran, DA-A, WH), Human Mage (Sacrificed, Leliana), City Elf Rogue (Redeemer, Morrigan, WH), Human Noble Warrior (Regent, Leliana, DA-A)), then ME1 once, then DA2 once and a half, then played 20 hours of Skyrim, and after that went back to DA:O with a Dwarf Noble Rogue.
Which I'm at right now.
Since I managed to spoil KotOR the same way by just trying to look up a tiny bit of information on a wiki, I've now made it a point to NEVER read anything on the internet about a game (I even avoid reading reviews too intensely) before or while I do a first playthrough. When I do have a question, I ask on the forums...I agree with you that the ending is great although I'm a bit disapointed because I knew a lot about it before playing it, it's like the KotOR "you're Revan" big spoiler anyone knows about, Morrigan and her "Cthulhu child" has been spoiled all over the internet so no suprise for me ='(

I am 24h in the game. I love it. One of the best game ever seen on my PC screen. I wish bioware would still support it with patches, though.
First playthrough? That was my initial impression as well, and it's stood the test of time!
Great game, one of the best I've played, and one with GREAT replay value. Replaying it again, and will probably be returning to it periodically for years to come. I hope that Bioware still has it in them to come up with something as good in the future.

Yes it's my first playthrough; I chose to be a Dalish rogue, assassin-duelist. At the moment I have the game installed on Origin 1.05 and added Qwinn last unofficial patch. Does it need further fixing according to you?
Thanks for the reply!

I've got a metric crapton of characters, and for some reason they don't want to show up on my characters page. *pokes profile* Maybe it's because I have multiple storage devices (and each one is maxed on characters or thereabouts, not counting the ones I've made on friends systems and my PC, which is linked to a different Origin account and therefore a different BSN profile...)

(F!Amell); I still don't like playing mages in DAO (even after making her an Arcane Warrior). But I did promise myself I would finally finish playing at least ONE mage. I play on the xbox, but I have decided to pick it up for the PC (have an older computer, so I have shied away from PC games for a number of years.) Still love the game, even if a few of the campaigns start to wear on me after the umpteenth play through.

Is there a new version of Qwinn's patch? Last version I tried a few months ago bugged several quests (notably Cammen's Lament, and far more seriously caused Alistair to mysteriously disappear after the Landsmeet).Rossocuore wrote...

There is a thread on the PC tech board which gives a comprehensive list of required bugfix mods. It also discourages using Qwinn's Fixpack.
I'd recommend these fixes to obtain a working (mostly) vanilla DA:O. Alsways read the instructions included about installing and avoiding conflicts:
Ancient Elven Boots fix Adds Ancient Elven boots to the cabinet in the Lothering Chantry where they appear in the console version of the game. Seems like a minor bug, but frustrating for armor collectors.
ZDF Extensive fixes for dialogue bugs and epilogue bugs across all companions in DAO.
Morrigan Restoration Patch Repairs many broken dialogues and broken plot-flags with Morrigan. **possible tweak**- adds back dialogue that was scripted and recorded (appears in game files) but was never staged and so never appears in the vanilla game.
Dragon Age Core Rules Fixpack Has many fixes and tweaks for combat, spell and item related bugs. Individual fixes and tweaks can be applied seperately. (you should disable the "tweaks" changes, since they change the intended gameplay and are not bugfixes!)
I use DA Core Rules Fixpack instead of Qwinn's fixpack, which does most of what Qwinn's fixpack does, without introducing new bugs.

It's a shame that I can't have/keep that many characters, due to playing on Xbox. There are only eight character slots available, and each post-game DLC fills one up. That means if I wanted to keep all those DLC saves, I can only have two characters on one playthrough. If I delete the original after importing to a DLC, then I can have seven (or eight, if number eight isn't imported to anything).
