As the designers really made some (sometimes minor, like increasing richness of detail) changes in character design over the three games, I just wanted to know from you what you think: In which ME do you think these characters looked best? Maybe also give a small "clarification" (hehe):
  • Ashley
  • Kaidan
  • Garrus
  • Liara
  • Joker
  • Dr. Chakwas
  • Cpt Anderson
  • Jack
(P.S.: If you can think of any other characters, feel free!)

So my opinion:

Ashley: ME1 (I didn't see her in ME2 though) as I cannot get over her huge lips in ME3 and her face in my op. looks very different, In ME1 I just found her beautiful.

Kaidan: ME3 as I like his increased mimic and details in his face - though they could have given him another haircut

Garrus: ME2 & ME3, my Shep just is into men with scars. Also they increased the richness if detail in his face a lot compared to ME1

Liara: ME1 as she just looks that much cuter there. I also prefered her "bookish" cute attitude to her role as creepy Shadowbroker

Joker: ME2 as his face in ME3 looks somehow squareish and indeed quite different

Dr. Chakwas: ME2
, I think they didn't do the hair right in ME3, all the haircuts look to "wide"

Anderson: ME3, they really gave his face more detail and his skincolor looks more natural

Jack: ME3, I prefer it when she actually wears clothes and I like her character in ME3 a lot better

1.Anderson in ME3. He looked odd in ME1 and 2,
2.Ashley ME1 and 2
3.Dr Chakwas ME1 and 2 in 3 she had way too much makeup on.
4.Liara ME1 before she just went whacky and BW tried to shove her in the players face nonstop
5.Jack both ME2 and 3. Both looks fit her current state of mind, and I enjoyed her in both games.
6.Garrus. ME2 and 3. It's good to know my buddy gots some battle scars fighting along side me.
7.Joker ME2 in ME3 he looked like he hadn't shaved for ages, and it looked like sh!t.
8.Kaidan ME1 he's KIA all the time

Here are some more characters I thought about
1.Bailey ME2 or ME3
2.Dr. Michel ME1 or ME3
3.Kirrahee ME1 or ME3
4.Kelly Chambers ME2 or ME3
5.Udina ME1, ME2, or ME3
6.Zaal'Koris ME2 or ME3

Ok so here is my run down
1.Bailey ME2 he looked like he was in his 50's and then in ME3 he looked 20 years younger
2.Dr Michel ME1 too much make up on in 3
3.Kirrahee ME1 his skin was green and I'll always remember him best giving his "Hold the Line" speech. Also in 3 it his skin was grey
4.Kelly, ME2 she was more pretty and I kinda like redheads.
5.Undina, ME3 he was living large dying his hair since getting the job I denied him in ME1, plus the moment I had been waiting years for with him in ME3 finally happened
6.Zaal'Koris ME3 with his new black armor he looked so much more bad@ss then his old pink armor.

3.Dr Chakwas ME1 and 2 in 3 she had way too much makeup on. <<< I know, like desperately wanting to look younger :D I think it fitted her better to be a sophisticated lady.

4.Liara ME1 before she just went whacky and BW tried to shove her in the players face nonstop <<< Indeed, and before she got giant boob implants.

5.Jack both ME2 and 3. Both looks fit her current state of mind, and I enjoyed her in both games. <<< Agreed.

6.Garrus. ME2 and 3. It's good to know my buddy gots some battle scars fighting along side me. <<< <3

8.Kaidan ME1 he's KIA all the time <<< I tend to understand this more and more.

Here are some more characters I thought about

1.Bailey ME2 or ME3 <<< ME2 clearly, he shouldn't have done that Botox.

2.Dr. Michel ME1 or ME3 <<< too much makeup in ME3, though she looked a bit old in ME1

3.Kirrahee ME1 or ME3 <<< I liked him green, but he had to go gray as he is against Synthesis.. ;)

4.Kelly Chambers ME2 or ME3 <<< ME2

5.Udina ME1, ME2, or ME3 <<< loved to finally get him what he derserves, so ME3

6.Zaal'Koris ME2 or ME3 <<< ME3 more bad*ss

Ashley - I think her appearance in both ME1/2 and ME3 looked good so I'm not too bothered. I would've preferred it if she kept that same phoenix armor. I'm still not sure if I preferred her hair down longer or in a bun like in ME1, I'd have to see how she looked with the better graphics.

Kaidan - He definitely looked better in ME3, not as generic.

Garrus - Not much opinion really, still looked the same old Garrus in ME3 just with scars.

Liara - Liked her look in ME1, didn't like her look in ME2 and liked her in 3. Still think she looked best in ME1 though.

Joker - Same old joker but with a bigger neckbeard.

Dr. Chakwas - She didn't change too much in all honesty.

Cpt Anderson - Definitely preferred his look in ME3, there was something about his appearance in the first two games that always seemed a little off to me. Maybe its his new hat.

Jack - Definitely looked better in ME3, best looking face in the mass effect series but I never liked her shaved look. She looked so much better with hair.

ME3 for them all, except Ash who looked best in the brief encounter in ME2.

Can't get past the fact they gave her a boob job, and dropped her hair over her eyes in combat. I couldn't help but laugh they try to humanize her in hospital, but then put her in super tight clothing that shows her belly. Its stupid.

Liara is a bit strange, she keeps changing look every game (and within ME2, DLC she looks different). I would say I'm happy with ME3 look, has alot of details and colour variation.

Ashley - Preferred her in ME1, i think her face looked best on there. I'm still satisfied with 3 ash though. Ash is ash.
Kaiden - I think he looked best in 2, he was really pale and didn't look good imo in 3.
Garrus - Definitely 3, his detail consistently grew throughout the series.
Liara - 3, same reason as garrus.
Joker - I'll have to go with 2 as well
Dr. Chakwas - 2, her hair looked really stiff in 3
Cpt. Anderson - 3, same reason as liara and garrus
Jack - 3, no offense but i hated jack in 2

I loved Jack's look in both games.
About other characters I don't have opinion. For me their changes was too minor to care. I would love to see more characters with new hairstyle, image etc.

Ashley - Did not like how they made her "hotter" in ME3. So ME1 and ME2 for me.

Kaidan - ME3. Didn't like his Elvis hairdo in the other two. >.>

Garrus - ME 2 and ME3 he looks more mature and older, not to say more detailed.

Liara - She looks the same to me in any game.

Joker - ME1 and ME2. They did something creepy to his face in ME3. o.o

Chakwas - Havn't really thought much about it so... ok in any game.

Andersson - More detailed in ME3.

Jack - ME3, more clothes, bit better attitude.

A lot of people, including me, tend to think that way. I wonder why..
Also, as stated here in this thread: How can she fight with her hair haning in her face all the time? And I think she is not the type (at least how I perceived her in ME1) to go all "barbie", with a lot of makeup and stuff.

Because it looks more like "botox & silicone" type of beauty than natural type of beauty. At least for me.

Yes, ME3 made a few of the female characters look more artificial,
Jack is the only girl that really looked better in ME3.

Ashley - ME1 and 2. She looks fine in ME3, but I just liked her hair pulled up a lot more.
Kaidan - ME3
Garrus - ME2 & ME3
Liara - LotSB (so sort of ME2). I loved how she looked in that DLC. I thought she still looked "cute" like she did in ME1 and her eyes and overall coloring were ridiculously pretty.
Joker - ME2. He looked really off in ME3 because of his eyes.
Dr. Chakwas - I feel like she pretty much looks the same in all the games.
Anderson - ME3, definitely. He looked odd in the first two games.
Jack - ME3 - She's beautiful in both, but really striking in the thrid one.

Ashley - I'd have to say ME1/2. Her ME3 look is alright, but I preferred the bun.

Kaidan - ME3. Still one of my least favorites, but good enough looking to make me consider a playthrough to romance him.

Garrus - ME3. I like his scars and it seems like there's more detail to him than 2 (and definitely 1).

Liara - Liara looked a little derpy in 1 (I think her eye kept twitching or something in most of my playthroughs) and she was alright in 2, but I prefer her ME3 appearance.

Joker - I don't know. Probably ME2. ME3 has me wanting to buy him a razor.

Dr. Chakwas - I don't really pay much attention to her.

Cpt Anderson - I have no idea. Like Chakwas, I don't pay much attention to him. I like his outfit better in 3, though.

Jack - 3. I kinda miss her tats from 2, but her hair makes up for it.

Shepard:  I don't know about the rest of you but my Shepard has looked drastically different in every single game.  In my first game he look badass with a scar over his eye.  ME2 import, he suddenly looked quite scholarly and no longer a badass.  In ME3, he looked like your average grunt.  WTF BIOWARE?!?!?!

Ashley: ME 1 and 2.  I liked that she looked so different depending on the angle and her outfit.  Had this combination of tomboyish and feminine look about her.  Very unique I thought.  ME3 is fine but just not as good.

Garrus: ME3 the scars definitely makes a difference.  In ME2 i wish he would have taken some time to at least fix his armor or something.

Liara: I'm a big fan of the way she looks in ME1.  She doesn't look like the type that would hold up in a fight.  But I thought that was what was great about her.

Miranda: Am I the only one that thinks that she looks weird in ME3? Like her hair is stuck to her shoulders or something.  She looked much more natural and expressive in ME2.

Chakwas:  She was forgettable in ME1, but when I saw her in ME2 I was like whoa what happened to you?!? She looked great.  Now if only she wasn't old enough to be Shep's mother!

Tali: hahaha she looks the same!  But actually I think her helmet shorten in length or something in ME2 and 3.  Which I think looks uglier.  Or maybe its just me.

Anderson: ME1 and 2.  I didn't like the way he looked but then over time I thought he looked unique.  Now he just looks kind of generic.

Kelly:  What happened to her??? it looks like she had the life sucked out of her or something.

Yes my femShep did not transfer well from ME1 to ME2 and the same from ME2 to ME3, I always had to redo her completely. Also the hairchoices in ME3 are sooo ugly.. I want to give my Shep tied together hair, like an updo or something as it's just more realistic, but all the updos in ME3 look sooo horrid.

Ashley: ME 1 and 2.  I liked that she looked so different depending on the angle and her outfit.  Had this combination of tomboyish and feminine look about her.  Very unique I thought.  ME3 is fine but just not as good.

Agreed completely. I think she was just beautiful in ME1.

Garrus: ME3 the scars definitely makes a difference.  In ME2 i wish he would have taken some time to at least fix his armor or something.

I could fix his armour with an outfit DLC for ME2... but you know that was just another rip-off from EA/BW,

Liara: I'm a big fan of the way she looks in ME1.  She doesn't look like the type that would hold up in a fight.  But I thought that was what was great about her.

Me too!!! I just love her look and attittude in ME1, she is so cute.

Miranda: Am I the only one that thinks that she looks weird in ME3? Like her hair is stuck to her shoulders or something.  She looked much more natural and expressive in ME2.

I think all the ME2 characters did not get away very well (except Jack) in ME3. And yes, she looked like carved out of wood.

Ashley: ME1. I had to leave her on Virmire, so I haven't actually seen her in my game, but what I've seen online has been a bit... Well, I don't like it. Too much makeup, and her face seems oddly chubbier. I think maybe her cheekbones are higher or something. ME1, she was an ordinary soldier and looked the part, while still having a cute disposition. ME3 really lost that. Trying to oversexualize her really goes against her personality, at least the Ashley I knew in ME1.

Joker: ME2 (although I like his ME1 hat better). Is it just me, or do his eyes look like they're held open way too wide in ME3? Like a constant O.O face. That really bothered me.

Pretty much everyone else looks better in ME3, IMO.

I think my favorite change in looks, though, has to be Shepard. At least mine looks drastically better in ME3 than ME1 or 2, despite having a slightly altered hair color due to import reasons. I use the basic facial structure of default FemShep, which I think got a much nicer look in ME3. They softened the edges a bit, made the face a little smaller, added nicer framing from the hair, and slightly narrowed the eyes. Accompanied by having more than just three facial expressions, I love ME3 Shep.

Her hair was always stuck to her shoulders. The ME2 model didn't allow for much hair movement and ME3 is likely no different. Ashley now has this problem too.

Ashley - I'm indifferent. Maybe the old ME1/ME2 armor with her hair down would have been the best.

Kaidan - I've never had a playthrough with him except with my one Femshep, so I honestly don't notice anything.

Garrus - ME3. I hated how he never repaired his armor or whatever in ME2. Was lame.

Liara - Looks quite the same in ME2/ME3. So I guess that's what.

Joker - Looks the same, just a different hat in all three games. :)

Dr. Chakwas - Don't care.

Cpt Anderson - Anderson always looked a little weird in the first two games. Like not enough time was spent on him graphically. ME3 definitely.

Jack - Didn't like her character. But I guess 3.

Bailey - It's like he got younger in ME3. I liked his blonde hair, old scruffy looking cop look in ME2.

Udina - ME3.

Miranda - Something is just wrong with her hair or something. Like it's wet and she forgot to dry it in ME3.. So definitely ME2.

Of signjficantly changed designs on characters that I pay attention to:
-- Jack always had that great face, and she looks even better in ME3 with the bit of long hair.
-- Ashley I may have to say I liked her look in ME1 better. That doesn't mean I dislike her ME3 look.
