OMG! How come so many people actually believe in the Indoctrination Theory? I mean, for real?!!

I think the odds are fair that Bioware messed up with the ending. Otherwise, they would have had more content in place to make the ending worthwhile, instead of having a circular-logic Starchild and grandfather selling goods to the player.

Like CyberMiguel said, the Indoctrination Theory is a way for Bioware to correct their mistakes without losing face. The alternative is for the current ending to become canon, which would leave a terrible taste in my mouth, and probably anyone else who was offended by it.

I get the scepticism of the Indoc theory, I really do, but at the same time it really isn't that hard to wrap your head around. I have seen far wilder fan theories, and plenty of the points made by indoc theory supporters, or people who just plain don't think the ending makes sense as is but aren't sure whether there is a greater reason behind it, do make sense. You don't need to do any mental gymnastics, there are things in there that just make you go 'huh'.

Of course it all seems unbelievable that the indoc theory is correct because it would mean BioWare intended endgame DLC from the get go. That is the main point against it really, not whether or not it makes sense within the game (because frankly, it makes a whole lot more sense than the 'real' ending, and they both have plot holes).

Anyway, we won't know for sure what's going on until after they tell us what their plans are in response to RME. Who knows how much is changing, it could be very little, but it could be a whole lot, which makes all this insult flinging and raging a bit pointless until then.

With enough booze it's fairly easy to see it. Only sober people deny the evident truth.

Has anyone looked closely at how often The Illusive Man has to drink in ME2?
And how he never drinks in ME3?
What is being suggested? It must be there for a reason!

I think it has some viability for three reasons

1. The bullet wound
2. The changing eyes
3. The breath scene

All of these the developers had to consciously acknowledge and spend more time and money to put in the game.

Also teleporting squadmates.

I don't disagree with Soaps but I find the use of rhetorical questions for rebuttal a bit substandard.

Bottom line is the team had probably started trailing of on a cloud castle, the ending had to be finished with as much atmosphere as possible, the gameplay was simplified immediately and phased out to ensure you forget about combat (a boss-fight with Marauder Shields is NOT how I would've done it, but who am I anyway...).

In the gaming business they probably do some stuff in the same way as in the movie making business.
If they feel like they should make the ending first, they do. They already have the script for the whole story, they just need to make it into a game.
They probably didn`t do the ending last, bet they did the side quests last. Most of the side quests are short.

All of these are much more easily explained with highly elevated degrees of alcohol. For instance, Shepard was so drunk he really thought he brought with him Tali and Garrus, so he could have a *chat* with them regarding their promiscuous and despicable sinful behavior. Then, he promptly gets them killed. He's so inebriated at this point that he actually believes Tali is a trinity of husks and Garrus is a Marauder. How ELSE will you explain the presence of a Marauder in the end IF NOT by the drunk subconscious of Shepard dealing with the murder of Garrus?

Of course, nothing of this sort ever happened. In reality he had picked Kaidan and Allers. This explains the Normandy ending,

OP I think that IT is a very well put together theory. But I do not believe that is what happened.

Id say the writers are pretty top notch, judging form a lot of the dialogue and plots they layed out.

As for the indoctranation...I kind of forgot this angle to the story, I;m ashamed to admit. I read it on the codex finally and...well...ghostly figures lept out at me. That dream is pretty much full of ghostly figures. I would not just dismiss it

The problem I see with the IT is that it means Bioware had planned to release DLC to explain what really happened, because the ending we have now isn't much of an ending if the IT is true. Shepard is hallucinating and then... the game ends. Pre-planned ending DLC is an unpleasant thought to say the least

Well, you can do what I do, blame EA.  If IT holds true, then EA probably told the Bioware writers to cut out the actual ending, which was unfinished, and ship what they had, so that they could make it out by March 6th and make a profit off of the DLC and the publicity.

I think it is as much hope as belief.

That, and if it is not the case-I think there are a couple plot hooks left over from when it was actually a possibility at one point in time. I think that little app you can purchase even admits that it was something they were thinking about if nothing else. At least at one point in time.

Because it honestly makes more sense than the original endings. It's cliche and a bit dumb, yes. But it is so much better than "Choose a color, and then let's run this sh%t to the ground lololololol Michael bay BAYSPLOSIONS."
