Mass Effect 3's price has been dropped down to $43.49 on the amazon.ca site.

Just checked the American Amazon, still $59.99 for the PC version thru EA and Amazon... though I could have sworn it was cheaper a couple of weeks ago.

Also, and I don't understand this.... the console versions are cheaper for some reason, they are both $49.99.

EDIT

Gamestop is also at $49.99, but for all 3 versions....

Thats is slightly odd regarding the bolded part. Then again I guess it could be explained away with levels of stock in store, trying to clear excess copies of console format versions.

This whole fiasco has given me a new found appreciation for Amazon.
If I wasn't such a Steam's b*tch I'd start buying all my games there. Awesome return policies.

Regarding the current notice: that's just the cherry on top of the cake.

Heh, I'm one of Steam's b*tches too. Steam is just so damn easy. However, when EA executed their power-play and forced me to install Origin, I decided to buy the game from Amazon instead. Amazon was second on my list.

Amazon always does the right thing for their customers. Maybe that's why everyone loves them.

Nice.
And look at Skyrim, still up there (also 3rd on Steam). Now that's impressive.

edit: btw, I hate you. :P

Problem with Finland? In UK sales charts last time I checked it was second only beat for top rank by another EA title fifa12. Last time I checked US charts it was still first though that was a week ago now. EA seem to be doing very well globally right now regarding their titles. Either top spots, top 3 or more on most if not all charts. Good news for EA and good for Bioware being listed in the charts still near the top which would ideally mean more investment into the franchise later. Some positive light against the negativity.

I can understand the PS3 being cheaper, as the series was ported considerably later and started at ME2...

However the series did start on the xbox 360, and the only reason I could think of perhaps that version being cheaper is the whole import character problem that console is currently facing.

You can get ME3 (PC version) for about $47 with shipping from an Amazon 3rd party vendor.

Even cheaper if you go to Ebay. $35.

I have to admit I do not know much about the importing issue since I bought the PC version, I have seen threads regarding it but have not felt the desire to go in and check it out as it never affected me personally.

Yeah, you cherry pick a Finland article that's five days old. Yes, Mass Effect did well in Europe the first couple weeks. We have to wait to see the fallout (if any) from the bad ending.

It's dropped to 3rd in the UK as of a week ago.

I think it debuted in Japan at number 20. I guess they don't like BioWare RPGs.

And that's why I love e-bay, I use it for older games... but will use Amazon for new releases.

However... e-bay is like gambling, sometimes you just never know -- sometimes you win, sometimes you lose.

side note -- I bought ME1 thru e-bay towards the end of 2008, and unknowingly bought a UK version of the game... came with 2 discs, one was an extra.

Nothing wrong in posting good news amongst all the sea of negativity sorry if you do not like postive articles...

With regard to Japan, they have never liked ME as far as titles go in general, the same applies to almost all western RPGs sold there. This is not something new to ME3.

I managed to pick up a brand new additional copy of ME1 recently (PC) from retail store including postage and packaging came to 2.97 GBP. Though I also went and bought a second (new) copies of DAO UE, DA2 (plus all DLC) and ME2 around same time for about 40-50 GBP in total. I switched from PS3 to PC on both series even though own the console versions too.

:D

This is why you get the responses you get.  I told you that you needed to go look at EA's quarterlies,  instead you went searching for anything that you could try to spin into "EA's doing just great!".  Since it's clear you're not going to actually go and do research,  I'm forced to tell you exactly how great EA is doing.

In the holiday quarter...(When you earlier claimed they made back TOR's investment)

EA sold 10 million copies of Battlefield 3
2 million copies of The Old Repulbic
Had residual sales of NFL and FIFA

and posted a 270 million dollar loss.

Honestly,  at this point,  it looks like you try very hard to find anything that you can use to support your desire for EA to be doing incredible,  and actively try to avoid anything you know will state fact that it isn't.  For reference,  if over 12 million sales generates a quarter-billion loss,  less than 3.8 million in ME3 copies didn't do anything significant.

EA have for as long as I remember been posting a loss year on year, this is nothing new. They have operated at a loss from before ToR, before ME3 and before this or last year and have been for a very long time due to investing more than returns. As far as sales of those copies goes they are doing well regarding individual titles. Raking in money with these franchises but losing it with investment in other areas. I would love to have direct link to 'your report' you mentioned because 'their reports' from themselves say they are doing incredibly well. Care to share where you got your information or are we supposed to magically take your word for it? They have not produced a Q4 report, at least none present on their own site.

Taken from their Q3 reports...

Star Wars®: The Old Republic™ has generated 1.7 million active subscribers and sold through
more than 2 million units in a little over one month.

EA was the number one publisher by segment share in Western markets for the calendar year,
where EA segment share grew by 3% to 20% in Europe and by 1% to 17% in North America

Total Q3 non-GAAP revenue was $1.651 billion, growing 17% versus last year. This is slightly better than the top end of our guidance range, and was driven by the successful launches of Battlefield 3 and Star Wars - The Old Republic and the continued success of FIFA 12. Strong performance of Battlefield 3 more than offset some
weakness on Need for Speed.

Q3 digital non-GAAP revenue increased 79% year over year to $377 million, and on a trailing 12-month basis our digital revenue exceeded $1 billion. DLC and free-to-play microtransaction content was $123 million in Q3, up 86% versus last year, primarily due to the continued digital success of FIFA.

Specifically, FIFA 12 generated almost $50 million of non-GAAP digital revenue for Q3, four times what FIFA 11 did during the same period last year. Additionally, the inclusion of The Sims Social and PopCap also contributed to our digital growth.

Mobile and other handheld digital revenue was $84 million, up 25% versus last year. This quarter, we saw continued growth in our smartphone- and tablet-related sales and growth in our Asia mobile business, offset by the decline in standard feature phone revenue. This quarter, the revenue contributions from smartphones and standard feature phones were about equal, with smartphone revenue growing more than 70% year over year.

Go to a restaurant, ordered a 5 course dinner.

All is good, enjoyed the food, love the food.

Oh no, come desert time, the desert is not what was advertised! Bug ice-cream!!! THIS IS NOT DESERT!

Declare all the food sux, the entire dinner sux. Demand a refund. Hold restaurant owner hostage, threaten to burn down the restaurant.

Drive around neighborhood day and night announcing their discontent through loud speaker.

Seriously... businesses are better off without such customers. Yeah, might hurt a little for a while but better off in the long run.

I don't think comparing food to writing is quite the same thing. And I haven't seen anyone say much of anything negative at all about the rest of the game. Everything before the end was masterfully done, and a few scenes brought me to the brink of tears actually.

While I understand where you're coming from, its too broad a generalization and one that doesn't really make for a good comparison, since I don't know of many people who go to dinner excited specifically for their dessert. Also, dessert isn't something that is going to bring a sense of closure, and you don't become attached to your food or your dessert.

I don't believe there has ever been an occasion where I cried because my food made a heroic sacrifice after I had traveled with it for several years and in various situations. No, this is definitely another issue entirely. But I respect your perspective, even if I disagree to an extreme.

But the game is 1 meal. Not 5.
