WTF.  They're an alien race that looks exactly like perfect hot blue women. How did that happen? Come on, blatant fan service for straight men. They have a freaking pole-dancing life stage. They have sex with anything. They are the galaxy strippers. Everyone wants to get in their pants. They make it so women on women isn't actually lesbian action because they're "mono-gendered". Come ON.

They are a race where "females" (personally I do not see the asari as females, by the way, but most people do) have all the power - so much so, actually, that men DO NOT EVEN EXIST.

Seeing as most ultra-feminists always go on about how men are useless and there will be a time where in-vitro fertilization will allow life completely without any male people, the Asari are just what they want human women to be. Except for the tentacles and skincolor, but that is really only superficial.

Asari are fanservice for women, not men.

the men do get their share of fanservice as well, though - Turians are all male (not according to lore but in 3 games there hasnt been a single women, so......) and they are the 2nd badass race in the galaxy, shining ideals of manliness and power.

And the only manlier race are the krogan. Yes, the people who  CAN  HAVE  ANY  WOMEN  THEY  WANT  IF  THEY  ARE STRONGER  THAN  OTHER MEN, WITHOUT  THE  WOMAN  HAVING  A  CHOICE. The Race with 4!!!! testicles. The race where the only thing that counts are the traditional male attributes of POWER, PHYSICAL STRENGTH and MANLINESS.

There's your fanservice for men.

@Overule

In response to your original post of this thread, why does it sound like Cerberus propaganda? What are you trying to achieve by starting this thread anyway?

You made a lot of assumptions based on what little information the series tells us about the Asari. The Asari can share memories and feelings through mental connection, and yet you interpret it as invading another person's thoughts. And from that point on you jumped to talk about Asari rapists...is that supposed to show the bonding process as a bad thing? Can I say the same about human sexual intercourse? That it is an utterly bad and distasteful experience, because you know, there are plenty of rapists running around raping people.

Nowhere in the game does it say that the Asari is set on edging other sentient species out of the evolutionary race. Where you got that impression from? While Asari can mate with other non-Asari, and their union will only produce Asari offsprings, the process will not render the non-Asari partner sterile afterward. So if they want to, they can always go mate with member of their own race and produce 100% pure children of whatever specie that they belong. So I don't see how having children with an Asari will "actively shrinks the population of every other species in the galaxy by depriving them of future children."

Yes, the Asari is a race of biotic users, and what's your point by stating the obvious? Are we suppose to think they are freakish because they wield powers that humans lack? What about those humans with biotic powers like Jack? My Shepard is an adapt too, so will you deem her weird as well?

As to why all races found the Asari attractive, doesn't the mass effect wiki provide an excellent answer already (which can be found in the game as well if you listen carefully)? The reason is because people merely focus on characteristics their species shares with the asari (e.g., body shape for humans, skin color for Salarians, head fringe for Turians). So no, I don't think the Asari is tricking us into thinking they are beautiful while in reality they look like some nightmarish creatures.

If you say the Asari are a creepy race, judging by your standards, then so are the other races, especially the Vorcha and Batarians. Maybe you have missed this, but the entire Mass Effect Universe is populated with alien species, whose cultures and physiology are vastly different than humans. In truth, I found your xenophobic viewpoint distasteful. If the Mass Effect universe is real, I can see you joining up with Cerberus.

Where did you get this from? You made it up. This isn't how it works: they used to have men too but the women were so powerful the men all died off or something. No, someone thought up a race of "not females who look EXACTLY like perfect human women". (they also have life stages of women: young, when they go out and date lots of people and dance at clubs, maturity, when they feel a need to settle down and become mothers, and old, when they rarely "meld" and serve as the wise guides. They also are the embodiment of popular female qualities: caring, heart, diplomacy, affection. They even all have biotics: the sci-fi version of magic, which goes side by side with women in rpgs)

Yeah you see those aren't feminists. "Ultra-feminist" is what I call femi-n. a.z.i. They are a small portion of crazy people who call themselves feminists but aren't looking for equality (which is what feminism is about) but superiority. I also don't think these women would alike all to conform to men's standards of beauty like you can see on asari (who look like models like it's been stated), they'd want to be allowed to be fat, manly, ugly etc.

So no, I actually know true feminists, they have diverging opinions and they can get too serious about videogames (which is why I don't like talking about this) but they're not crazy like you think they are, they want equality. They also wouldn't appreciate the asari sexing anything, being THE strippers everywhere and having the stigma of the ****s of the galaxy. They certainly wouldn't appreciate pretending woman on woman isn't lesbianism. Feminists are big on LGBT causes, in case you didn't know. They also don't like being sexualized like asari are.

the men do get their share of fanservice as well, though - Turians are all male (not according to lore but in 3 games there hasnt been a single women, so......) and they are the 2nd badass race in the galaxy, shining ideals of manliness and power.

The men's fanservice is teh hot babes. Even BW admitted they did it to please the dudes back when ME1 was made. And yes there are turian women, they appear in comics, and Garrus has a sister and had a mother.

Fanservice is not "male power fantasy" (which the turians aren't, they're too ugly and alien for that). Fanservice is hot babes.

There's a convo between Liara and Joker in ME3, where you walk in and Joker has been pestering Liara about whether asari hair tentacles move.  You can side with Joker or Liara.  Siding with Joker reveals that the tentacles are cartilagenous structures that grow into shape, and they aren't prehensile (there's no muscles in them, just cartilage).  They can't move them any more than humans can move their ears.  Just what evolutionary purpose they serve though, is up for debate.  I think they're designed to cushion the skull from blows to the head.  Maybe asari have softer skulls or something.

Matter of opinion. For me, Feminism IS what you call Femi-n@zi. If you really care about EQUALITY, dont choose a name that excludes men, i. e. half the population, from the start. And I know plenty of women who think the same and dislike feminists because they (the feminists / femin@zis, not the women who dislike them) dont want equality but superiority.
What you choose to call feminism is for me just common sense.

Depends. I can identify with the turians more, and I dont think they're ugly either. And at any rate I would say male power fantasy is indeed fanservice to men. More so than pixelated women who dont even undress (if you could see naked DD-cup boobs I'd agree with you, but you dont....)

And the only manlier race are the krogan. Yes, the people who  CAN  HAVE  ANY  WOMEN  THEY  WANT  IF  THEY  ARE STRONGER  THAN  OTHER MEN, WITHOUT  THE  WOMAN  HAVING  A  CHOICE. Of course it is sexist. The Krogan are the living, 4-testicled embodiment of male dominance over women. Except for Wrex, but he's areally cool guy and wants to improve things. But even he is kind of macho and would prefer if some women talked a bit less....

At any rate, I do not see what this being sexist has to do with it being fanservice. Most fanservice is sexist anyways.

Which is kind of strange, to be honest: One would assume fanservice is giving what the majority of fans want, and I cant really imagine all of them being sexist.

No, someone thought up a race of "not females who look EXACLTY like perfect human women".

To be fair, the concept of "perfect human woman" resulted out of female human physiology which has been there before, not the other way around. I do not deem it impossible at all that another species would develop with similar appearances even when it lacks a male counterpart to which they would otherwise appeal.

In short: human women don't have "boobies" because men find them attractive but because they make for a convenient way to nurture their young. It's no different with Asari.

As for the "poledancer stage" (which is actually just one of the most popular options amongst young Asari, on par with touring the galaxy as a badass mercenary kicking down doors) ... whilst this is undoubtedly a factor where sexual tension applies, I don't really regard this as derogatory. It's just girls being proud of their bodies and enjoying themselves as much as the reactions they evoke. They don't dance because they are forced to or because they get pimped, but because they genuinely "make the most of it" by combining a hunger for nightlife parties with the means to make a living. In general, it seems as if the Asari are not as repressed as some human cultures are, and if you'd talk to one of them (if they'd exist) she would probably be surprised how you can get that weird idea that she is being exploited. Maybe it is because they are a mono-gendered species and as such never had to go through a period of sexism/misogyny/inequality, or maybe it is because modern day society really needs to rethink its stance on nudity and body art. Something which, I believe, a number of feminists are campaigning for as well. *shrugs*

In the end ... well, of course it's fanservice. But it is believable fanservice which does the species as a whole no disservice. The Asari are officially credited with the galaxy's most fearsome infantry, their huntresses' efficiency only limited by their small numbers compared to the infantry of the other Citadel species. They are also valued for their culture and scientific inside as well as acting as mediators between the other races. I daresay that Citadel space would have never unified under a single banner without their guiding hand.

I have to say that I agree upon Asari being a female fan-service, they are a feminist's dream society, one that slowly weeds out the male population of other races until their race is the only one left standing (They only get female and asari offspring). But they are also a male fan-service in that they are the western ideal for a woman, that is blue and willing to shag with anything.

I don't choose anything, if you read about it you'd know why feminism is called feminism (guess how it started). You don't know a thing about feminism. Yeah I don't like a lot of feminists and that's why I don't like associating myself with that word. So go get some education on the subject if you want me to take you seriously.

Eh, wouldn't marry the asari, but I would have some fun, I'm interested in what psychic sex is like. If anything, I'll get over the 3 fingers and overly bowed out legs of Quarians and have relationship with one of them. Fact they cover their skin 24/7, :3 I'll be the first one to touch any part of them, hehe
