In the right light, Kaidan Alenko looks Asian, moreso on the first two games than the third. In the third film, he looked Eastern European. I know "Kaidan" is a Japanese word and "Alenko" sounds Eastern European/Russian to me.

I guess my question is.....Is Kaidan Alenko supposed to be Asian?

I don't think we know for sure. I think his mom was in Singapore when the eezo accident happened though. So who knows. I guess it's possible.

Some have said he looks Asian. Some have said he looks vaguely middle-eastern. As has been said, Kaidan is a Japanese word. Alenko is Ukrainian, I believe. I'd say it's likely he comes from a very multi-racial background.

Oh, okay. That clears it up. He's a good character, I was just very curious on his racial background. I had always believed he was Japanese + Russian.

How is that relevant to a discussion of the character's ethnicity?

He looked Mediteranean to me in ME1.


Its funny how they made Ash look more latina in ME3 and Kaidan like more of an undetermined occidental origin. Pretty much reverse from ME1

I found it funny in ME2, Williams looked like a Chola. I agree, in ME3, Kaidan looked like a mix of three different races. Wasn't his mother caught in an eezo explosion in Thailand or something? Kaidan is very interesting.

I always figured Kaidan had some asian heiritage in there somewhere, although he is still pretty racially ambiguous.

 About "Alenko", well yeah it sounds European (I I would know since I'm Polish)

But there is only one thing similar to that name: "Alenka" - from the name "Alicja".

But here it is a surname so... anyway for me it sounds Ukrainian or Czech or Russian. I would bet Ukrainian.


But I wouldn't say that really is the case.

Yes, this is Ukrainian surname. Not Russian.

He was supposed to be bisexual but was re-written before the first game even came out.  It's lame that they didn't stick to their guns from the getco, props them for fixing this.  Besides it's entirely possible Kaidan just didn't feel attached enough to Male Shepard in the first game, the impending end of the world in ME3 is good enough reason for anyone to re-evaluate what they want in life (and I'm not saying the end of the world turns people gay just that it's possible Alenko decided to be more outgoing about his feelings).
