I agree with Aramina, I've had one (out of many) good gold team, that actually did well against gold reapers. None of us used equipment with the exception of a krogan vanguard with a striker and a shuriken (both x), Warp rds III, Stab. mod III, and AR amp III. I'm not saying gold reapers are exceptionally difficult with the proper group composition (justicar, and 2 adepts) but to use level 3 equipment with randoms seems unwise, at least in my experience. But yea I agree with everything he said lol

Beat my first gold match this morning. Then my second right after. I've played gold maybe 5-6 times in total. During both matches I played a vanguard and my friend played a justicar. The combo worked perfectly and I had 95k score (ultimately meaningless, I know). Smart playing wins games, not N7 rank. We learned the map, played to our strengths (I was the justicar initially), and walked away with the credits.

My N7 is 95 and probably not going anywhere.

Nope. Level 15+ characters only. Basically, if you try to use a level 14 or lower in Gold, it should say that you can't. If you have no level 15+'s, you wouldn't be able to enter gold.

Fixed for you ;) I know, we are an endangered species on the internet. And it's true, with a good solid team and the right map, you don't need any equipment at all to beat Reapers on gold. Just a few days ago I did it with 2 randoms and a friend who had never made it to extraction on Gold before. No prep for reapers, the settings were Random/Random/Gold. Our Adepts were a Sentinel with Warp and an AJA. We ended up on IMO the hardest map (the one on Palaven) and Reapers. First comments you hear over mic..."Oh ****, we're screwed." And we ended up making it all the way to extraction. Granted there were some close calls...had to solo the end of a wave once on my GI. But boy were we proud of ourselves for making it all the way to the end.

I know I'm not the greatest player here, and I probably couldn't solo Gold on my best class, the AJA. So if we could do it, it can be done. Teamwork > N7 level and equipment.

(I'm the second place Engineer, obviously).

I think these limitations would be nonsensical. I could have just been Engineer for all packs I've had and then I would be N7 level 20.

No, because some of us hit 120 then never promote.

Bad idea #573086

I've come across lvl 500's who wouldn't make it in bronze

Weapon loadout is a better measure of someone's success in a match

oh so promoting is what rasies N7 rank ? , if thats so, doubtful will be getting too N7 200 , as I fail to see any point in promoting chars as they actually mean diddly squat in single player given how the ending is at present.

I agree with OP.

But that restriction should be for public matches only. Some of my friends are lower than 100, but I know first hand that they can hold their own in a gold match.

I don't feel like taking the chance with every <100 I come across. It's not elitism, just common sense.

N7 rank has very little meaning. I've seen great low rankers, and crap high rankers. Besides, if someone finds a class they like and don't bother to promote or change class, they'd never get a higher than rank than 20, and they'd probably be pretty good at it.

N7 loosely correlates with experience right now, but is too contingent on promotion.
It is a superficial basis for forming a rough-guesstimate of a player's competence in a give match, and combined with loadout, equipment, and character level it can give you a rough idea of how well prepared the player is.

There should be more detailed player stats: total credits earned, total extractions, and a breakdown of total matches won by type. Credits earned is the best indicator of the quality of their gear, though it will obviously skew towards farmers and glitchers.

There should also be some metric for figuring out the impact a player has on the likelihood a team will succeed in various difficulties, relative to the success rates of their teammates in each match.
For instance, if the average success rate of the other three members in a Gold match is very low and they win while I'm playing, that should improve my rating more than if I'm playing with farmers who consistently win.
My rating should also be boosted if the team gets full extraction, and be blunted somewhat if I spend huge swaths of time solo'ing (i.e. Infiltrator lets team die, slowly picks off enemies, match takes 40 minutes).
It would be a pretty complex algorithm, but a more fair one.

There is a flipside to this: the more accurate the statistics are at conveying somebody's competence, the harder it will be for less skilled players to get in matches; some players also plateau in skill level regardless of experience. There would probably be a massive spike in vote-kicking.

there isnt going to be a platinum challenege, i keep tired of hearing about like 5 people wanting a higher difficulty,....get over it...few people beat gold regularly without level 20 characters etc...no need for a higher difficulty

If in any way: I'd rather limit this via using player stats from bronze/silver. Like:
* number of +25 kills/asist
* average score per game
* effective % of play time during a game (leechers out)
* your characters level (minimum 15)
* weapon class

I don't claim these to be smart, I just don't see N7 rank properly working as a barrier from joining gold matches.

Multiplayer actually needs a shooting range: something to test your build on in terms of a few waves, coming at you, and reviving you when you go down. You'll get an idea of how effective you are, how ruthless they are, etc...

Also, please get rid of the ridiculous Random Challenge search option.

The only reason I've promoted was for the weekend operation, haven't promoted once before or after that...I don't really see a reason to.
