No, they blew whatever trust they had with me when they released DA2.

I'll buy it if we find Maeric and Fiona's real heir (assuming it's not alistair) so we can have alistair as a companion again. Or if it has Fiona in in period. Or if it can offer some insight on the golden palace thingy in the dream world, or the origin of darkspawn. DA:O had such interesting lore, but DA2 didn't expand on anything.

Edit: so 95% chance I'm getting it unless the demo is a letdown.

They all answer to their EA overlords and go along with the micro-transaction mindset of nickle and diming their fans for every last cent they can get.

I would be amazed if the DA developers haven't learned from their mistakes with the second game, but I suppose time will tell.

I do, actually. Bioware are obviously really passionate, and I know that the DA team love their franchise and put a lot of thought and love into the things they make. You can even see it in what DA2 DLC we got - they took every criticism of DA2 seriously and worked really hard to improve things and give the fans an enjoyable experience, while keeping many of the elements that made fans love the vanilla game. It makes me really sad that some people are expressing doubts about it (even though I understand their perspective) - because it's a series I love and want to see do well.

Honestly though I'm hoping that the development cycle will be long enough for DA3 that by the time it finally comes out it will be somewhat distanced from the ghosts of controversies past. I really hope that, and I hope that it's an excellent game and sells well.

Edited to add: Cazlee, seeing as you know who Fiona is I strongly suspect you've already done this, but if not you really need to read Asunder. It's a nice little lore-expander and is clearly setting things up for DA3. Also - more Fiona is always excellent.

Its not negativity.

Negativity is when I start to brawl on and on about how 100% the game sucks and that any future games will 100% suck --- without really giving any tangible reason.  --- that would indeed be a trolling, stupid affair.

Its another world when you can list what went wrong and providing examples of previous installments by the same developer in which you can clearly see a downgrade in content.

I don't respect anyone mouthing off just to screw someone over, legitamte, well thought complaints are far more honerable.

Being legit and being a troll are two things that you can definatly pick apart from eachother.

Dragon Age III on the other hand probably won't come out until 2013 meaning that we'll see much more of Bioware's artistic integrity.

I'd bet on a holiday 2012 release. I have a hunch they will announce it at PAX though especially with them just announcing no more DLC for Dragon Age 2.

I thought DA:2 was alright. Nothing memorable like Mass Effect or DA:O. The game had a lot of unique ideas that weren't executed well at all. Hopefully they learn from those mistakes a make a solid game.

I'll consider buying DA:3 I won't pre-order like I usually do with BioWare games, so yes some damage has been done to my purchasing tendencies with BioWare. However I'd say Dragon Age 2 did that more than Mass Effect 3.

This thread is NOT off topic. It is about how Mass Effect 3's stigma hurting Dragon Age III's future sales.

After the initial reactions to DA2 presented in the form of calls for firings, deaths, contracting cancer, etc. - and the more recent real-life harassment, I'd be surprised if they ever came out with another Dragon Age game ever again.

And The Witcher series looks like it's about to take over the genre anyhow.

Mass Effect 3 being a failure for me on a personal level will impact my decision to steer clear of Dragon Age 3, but it won't be the only thing impacting that decision. To paraphrase The Simpsons, I attribute my growing lack of interest in all things Bioware due to shifts in their key demographic, coupled with the overall crumminess of Poochie... I mean their last handful of games.

Honestly I think Bioware learned their lesson from DA2.

They are different teams that develop each game.

I expect DA3 to really tie in the previous 2 games in some sort of grand overarching way. I think we can accurately speculate DA3 is an all out war between the Templars and Mages.

You guys should stop being mean and give Bioware a chance! The reason Dragon Age II was a failure was because it was rushed. It came out only 16 months after Dragon Age:Origins. I don't think we can take anymore of Bioware's artistic integrity.   Can you imagine what they might do with Sandal at the end of DA3?   I don't even want to think about it.   I'm going to pass on the whole thing.

(DA3 isn't a person so empathy should directed at people working on it instead.)

If DA3 is worthy of being bought we will of course buy it. But the evidence have to be pretty solid considering both the mediocre performence of DA2 and the stealthy failure of ME3 (fail at the end so apathatic gamepress wouldn't tell on it).
We just don't want to spend our money if Bioware will cut corners so big that the whole project collapses. And DA3 definitely don't deserve any undue expectations.

And if we have to wait until we are sure about the quality of DA3 then we can save by buying it on sale anyway.

That is the harsh reality of trying to sell flawed products.

It's not quite there yet but atleast it seem to pay attention to detail and working within the budget (time and moneywise).
Much good can come from that developer.

Bioware needs to go back to their roots and get away from EA. Look at all the free stuff you get with The Witcher 2: art book, game guide, wall papers, making of vids, papercraft dolls, avatars, soundtrack. Free, as in no ms points, as in for you our fan for helping us do what we love to do.

I just don't trust Bioware not to completely screw the pooch again like they did with their last 2 games now.

DA2 spat in the face of DA:O fans and the ending of ME3 is just unbelievable in it's ineptitude.

So no I don't feel sorry for DA3 i'm pretty sure it'll get everything it deserves.

DA2 failed big time! ME3 only failed at the ending (if I exclude the annoying auto dialogues and the lack of options on the dialogue wheel and Tali's photo... and the objective tracker, etc...)...

I have no doubts that DA3 will be a fail again. BioWare is going down the hill coz of EA's profit policy... they don't have enough time to develop a game properly...

So no, I won't buy the game at the release... I will wait for the first game reviews (but not from they puppet magazine, the IGNorance) and we'll see. I was a fan of BioWare until DA2 and ME3... will see.

The DA2 ending and the ME3 ending definitely put me off from buying another bioware game. But if I do decide to buy DA3 it will be because of positive player/customer reviews, not because of critic reviews.
