...you mean you suck at the puzzle, not that it's bugged?
Unless you mean when the fire reaches a left arrow tile it goes down instead of left.
It's so easy to insult other people, is it?
And you're quit right about the fire going the wrong way.
Furthermore some people told they were being able to chose from 4 tiles that they could swap to the hole. For me it was never more than 2. And some tiles are stuck. You could not move them.

Puzzle is pretty easy, but I'm not sure what you get for doing it? Do you get something extra over just killing the demon? Also, I constantly seem to target and click on the cat accidentally while doing the puzzle ... "I'm not free yet!"
If you actually live up to your bargain and let the girl get taken then you get a spiffy mage staff (especially if you're a primal fire type.)

I decided to try and fight Kitty without changing the difficulty and without solving the puzzle, although I wish I could have done the puzzle again. It was fun, but when the girl became possessed my approval rate plummeted. I also tried lying, but I guess my cunning wasn't high enough, so I went for the straight out fight. I didn't expect I would win. I assumed I would have to go back and return later when either my party had leveled up or I had a ton of health potions.
Now for the shocking and the fun part. While combating the lesser demons, all of my party quickly died off as expected, including Alistair, Leliana, and Morrigan. All died but one, my dog, before I even began the final fight with Kitty. So it was just my dog vs a full-health Kitty. Honestly, I almost reloaded my last save before even waiting to see what would happen. I didn't expect to last more than a second, but my hound kept biting at Kitty and dodging every thing that was thrown his way. He wore Kitty down, and finally, after a few minutes, he won! This was, by far, one of the more interesting and most surprising fights I have seen in this game so far. My entire human party was no match for Ms. Kitty and her lesser demons, but my hound not only survived the demons but also took down Kitty at the end. I should have known that when it comes to hound vs kitty - hound wins!

There is definitely more then 1 way to complete the puzzle. A video would probably be the most helpful.

I had MUCH more trouble with that damn bridge. Finally had to draw each step on graph paper to figure it out. My husband on the other hand made one little drawing and it somehow clicked for him. I still haven't forgiven him

As a result I am NOT going to post a piece by piece move just two tips:
1) The KEY to this puzzle is the LAST square. There aren't that many tiles that sends the flame that direction so getting that one in place first makes everything else easy.
2) It's FAR easier to go "up" the second last row instead of the last one. Why? It leaves you more options for switching things around. You'll see what I mean when you try start doing it.
Oh and for those having problems with the tiles screwing up - try saving and loading the game again. Those tiles suffer from the same bug that locks helmets/armour/weapons on characters so that even if you change the gear the old ones still remain. The save/reload method cured this problem for me when it happened

2) Do NOT lie -- it takes you into a messy dialog path that doesn't work quite the way you want it to.
You are NOT lying because, "I said I'd let you go; I didn't say I'd let you live."
Besides, the demon always reneges on the deal and tries to keep the girl anyway. Just, "I can't/won't let you do that" and the demon gets nasty -- which scares the girl into running away. Then it's a simple matter of killing the demon and a few other summoned demons.
No matter how good the staff is, it's not worth all the Approval hits you take. Settle for the Helm and other stuff PLUS the XP for killing Kitty & Company; that's more than enough reward for me.

this is what i was wondering about - obviously hasn't been a patch/patchable issue [yet]. thanks. i keep getting completely nonintuitive options several moves in, ludicrous flame paths, etc.
