I had difficulty until I learned the pattern is two right, one down, three right, all down, all right. Then I was alright.

...you mean you suck at the puzzle, not that it's bugged?
Unless you mean when the fire reaches a left arrow tile it goes down instead of left.

It's so easy to insult other people, is it?

And you're quit right about the fire going the wrong way.

Furthermore some people told they were being able to chose from 4 tiles that they could swap to the hole. For me it was never more than 2. And some tiles are stuck. You could not move them.

puzzle is bugged in my second play through. pieces that should be able to move can't and others will move diagonally. using the tab key to highlight ones that can move still allows for the puzzle to be completed.

depends on what you want get out of it. You can get either the helmet and belt or the staff. staff is nice for fire mage, thou you have to sell the little to the demon if you want it. Helm and belt you just have to kill the demon. If you want to save the little girl, you have to do the puzzle then not let the demon posses the girl, she runs away to safety and you get to fight the demon. I wish there's a way of getting the helm, belt and staff. I tried to get the demon to posses the father since he is the one with the staff and then kill the demon thinking it might then have all three items, but no dice. :(

I wouldn't recommend helping the demon, Helm of Honnleath is probably the best in the game and the belt is nice. The staff is good for a while but there will be better later on. You don't really get anything for saving the girl as far as I know, I haven't noticed any difference between having the demon possess her and making the persuade check.

I was good at the puzzles, but doing it on a picture was different (harder), holding the puzzle in my hands I used to barely look at them. Anyway, still relatively easy, and yes there is some loot on Kitty when you kill her.

Puzzle is pretty easy, but I'm not sure what you get for doing it? Do you get something extra over just killing the demon? Also, I constantly seem to target and click on the cat accidentally while doing the puzzle ... "I'm not free yet!" :)

If you actually live up to your bargain and let the girl get taken then you get a spiffy mage staff (especially if you're a primal fire type.)

I found this amazing because I was about to give up and either allow Kitty to possess the little girl, in which my party's favor would drop dramatically (I believe it was -10 for Leliana and -15 for Morrigan or Alistair, or maybe the other way around - whatever it was, it was bad), or simply reduce the difficulty level to easy, which was not even a fair fight. I was about to give up because I had no health regeneration of any kind. I had my party drink up some spirit resistance, which really didn't help that much, and have the whole party attack one minion at a time. That was my planned strategy.

I decided to try and fight Kitty without changing the difficulty and without solving the puzzle, although I wish I could have done the puzzle again. It was fun, but when the girl became possessed my approval rate plummeted. I also tried lying, but I guess my cunning wasn't high enough, so I went for the straight out fight. I didn't expect I would win. I assumed I would have to go back and return later when either my party had leveled up or I had a ton of health potions.

Now for the shocking and the fun part. While combating the lesser demons, all of my party quickly died off as expected, including Alistair, Leliana, and Morrigan. All died but one, my dog, before I even began the final fight with Kitty. So it was just my dog vs a full-health Kitty. Honestly, I almost reloaded my last save before even waiting to see what would happen. I didn't expect to last more than a second, but my hound kept biting at Kitty and dodging every thing that was thrown his way. He wore Kitty down, and finally, after a few minutes, he won! This was, by far, one of the more interesting and most surprising fights I have seen in this game so far. My entire human party was no match for Ms. Kitty and her lesser demons, but my hound not only survived the demons but also took down Kitty at the end. I should have known that when it comes to hound vs kitty - hound wins!

why is help always less than helpful. guess i will just have to kill kitty again. I have tried to solve this puzzle, I just see no rhyme or reason, I have noted one post 2 right, 1 down 3 right all down all right, will try if I can make sense but still cryptic,

Second time I did the puzzle it was much easier, but I think I completed it doing 2 different routes.  You can really digg yourself in a corner if go for a bad route.

There is definitely more then 1 way to complete the puzzle.  A video would probably be the most helpful.

All you need to do is find the nearest piece that goes in the direction you want to go, and move it there without moving any of the other pieces you've used to that point. I usually just go straight to the right, then straight up to the finish.

This one wasn't so hard for me, once I figured out that I should work from the end to the beginning. But it did bug on me once... a square showing as empty was behaving like a not-empty square, which was confusing.

I had MUCH more trouble with that damn bridge. Finally had to draw each step on graph paper to figure it out. My husband on the other hand made one little drawing and it somehow clicked for him. I still haven't forgiven him ;)

The most annoying part is listening to that stupid girl talk while you do the puzzle.

I can't believe people are having so much trouble with this puzzle. Every time I finish it the answer is a little bit different since there is no one set solution.

As a result I am NOT going to post a piece by piece move just two tips:

1) The KEY to this puzzle is the LAST square. There aren't that many tiles that sends the flame that direction so getting that one in place first makes everything else easy.

2) It's FAR easier to go "up" the second last row instead of the last one. Why? It leaves you more options for switching things around. You'll see what I mean when you try start doing it.

Oh and for those having problems with the tiles screwing up - try saving and loading the game again. Those tiles suffer from the same bug that locks helmets/armour/weapons on characters so that even if you change the gear the old ones still remain. The save/reload method cured this problem for me when it happened

1) Strike the deal, "I'll let you go, but you have to give up the girl."

2) Do NOT lie -- it takes you into a messy dialog path that doesn't work quite the way you want it to.

You are NOT lying because, "I said I'd let you go; I didn't say I'd let you live."

Besides, the demon always reneges on the deal and tries to keep the girl anyway. Just, "I can't/won't let you do that" and the demon gets nasty -- which scares the girl into running away. Then it's a simple matter of killing the demon and a few other summoned demons.

No matter how good the staff is, it's not worth all the Approval hits you take. Settle for the Helm and other stuff PLUS the XP for killing Kitty & Company; that's more than enough reward for me.

The puzzle is fun. I done it on four different playthroughs without changing any options because of it.

But I always set myself on fire at some point though :-P

this is what i was wondering about - obviously hasn't been a patch/patchable issue [yet].  thanks.  i keep getting completely nonintuitive options several moves in, ludicrous flame paths, etc.Image IPB

Just remember to take off "hold position" after you're done with the puzzle. Other than that, I just tried to put the useless arrows in one corner first, then worked from the end back to the beginning.

I always solve the puzzle and then kill the demon so I can get the helmet loot, so what happens if you let the demon possess the girl anyway?

This pic is great - Most times my solution looks almost exactly like this!

Do you still get the helm of honnleath?  I always just kill both the demon and the girl.

You still get the helm, as long as you kill the demon, whatever else you do.

Eureka, yes, a picture is worth...........and it is easy when you know how but frustratingly impossible with no clues at all. I did solve the bridge platform crossing to the Urn on my own but this one I gave up on.

Now I think there is only one left that I have not done, and that is in the Tower of Magi but I will search other posts
