Phalanx - kills things
Carnifex - kills more things
Arc Pistol - doesn't kill anything

That's about it.

dont like phalanx (even though i got over 100k when i used it :D), and i just got carnifex to same level as my arc so id assume its now better than it. Im awesome with the arc... if i do say so myself.

Of the three, I'd go Phalanx. That said, I prefer the Talon over all others.

I prefer the firing rate of the phalanx, I haven't tried the ME3 Carnifax though I've been impressed when I've seen it in MP. When I read the Arc Pistol was based off the Arc Projector I decided to try it. The firing rate is ok but it doesn't deliver the same satisfying punch the other two pistols bring.

Phalanx if you want fast power recharge. Carnifex if you want to snipe headshots. Thats basically it. In general Carnifex is the better weapon while Phalanx is a better power user weapon.

Phalanx: good, reliable with a high rate of fire and a large clip but weak
Carnifex: strong, slightly lower fire rate little heavier
Arc: strong and good against shields and the geth, VERY heavy (note charged shots are more powerful but risky to pull off)

1) Carnifex- The amount of damage it can put out at it's weight class is excellent. I use it on all my powers based classes as a finisher/dps filler.
2) Phalanx- I've seen players do well, but I'd rather have the Carni or the Pal, higher damage & pistol wielding classes should mostly focus on using powers.
3) Arc Pistol- It's a gimmicky weapon. It's rapid fire is pathetic & it takes forever to charge.

Carnifex + Barrel + Scope = Poor mans sniper rifle.

Paladin... then Phalanx for lower weight and a bit easier killing. Then Eagle for full auto that is good with ammo powers like Incindiery and Armor piercing.

I don't really like any of the pistols but your squad mates with Arc pistols strip shielded targets with ease. Take Tali and Edi into the cerberus base with Arc pistols.

Agreed. The other weapons are nice but an upgraded Paladin is king:D

Phalanx. A nice balance point.

It's kinda like a modern .45ACP pistol compared to the Predator's 9mm.

Though... if you can pull the trigger fast enough on the Predator, that thing is a beast. Put a pierce mod on it and it can shred even Brutes.  Same damage per shot as the Vindicator, I found... Weighs a lot less, and has a lot less kick than the Vindy too.  Point at the general region of a Guardian's head and let fly too.  Heck of a lot easier to get the Mail Slot achievement that way, and even if you don't get a point towards it, the cerbie still gets a ballistic lobotomy anyway.

I agree with you about the Talon, especially when fully upgraded. I did use the Arc Pistol for a while on Insanity, but when I found that the Talon X does more damage than the Arc, I've put it on Liara and all others who could use pistols right away.

The biggest issue I have with the Talon is basically that it's like an inferior version of the Disciple. Its not really effective in any situation where the Disciple itself isn't, lacks the level of spare ammo the Disciple has, lacks the stagger effect the Disciple has, weighs more, and to top it all off, takes up a slot that has better things competing for it (like the Paladin, Scorpion and Carnifex).

Put simply, its trying to be a shotgun in a game which already has a shotgun to cover every taste. Since the only slot that offers stuff that is both very lightweight and very accurate/powerful is the heavy pistol slot, its a bit redundant.

As for the choice set out by the OP... Carnifex. I didn't really understand (as with many weapons in this game) why the Arc Pistol was so heavy, as it didn't seem to do much, and the Phalanx seems like its falling in the unhappy medium between something lightweight and fast like the Predator or the Eagle and something very hard hitting like the 'Fex or the Paladin.

I reject your reality, and substitute my Paladin. (Tons of damage, HIGH accuracy.)
OT : Carnifex, because it's the closest thing to the Paladin.
Phalanx is a decent balance between damage and ammo capacity/magazine capacity.
Arc Pistol is very meh.

I think it depends on what you are trying to do. When I play a caster class, I get Paladin as soon as I can afford it (after getting Inferno armor). I put a scope and barrel on it for the occasional sniping and one-shotting shield/barrier generators. My casters rarely use weapons but when they do, I like to hit hard.

A faster firing pistol is more useful if enemies get into close range before you have time to switch weapons.

I lean toward the slower heavy damage pistols as a poor man's sniper and anti-armor weapon. I'd rather have a shottie for close range and an AR for everything else.

Phalanx. Very accurate, powerful enough to only require a few headshots to kill unprotected enemies. More forgiving than Carnifex.

A standard Carnifex pistol can survive a Reaper Destroyer's energy beam! So +Infinity to the Carnifex! ;)

I'd always take a high damage pistol (Carnifex or Paladin) over the others.

To be honest, if I could, I'd take both the Eagle and the Carnifex. Having to choose between these two precision instruments of destruction breaks my heart :P

That said though, I agree. Aside from the Eagle, which makes up for low shot power with full-auto firing, I can't be bothered with any of the low damage pistols. They're pointless.
