The Phalanx is my personal favorite heavy pistol. Most every character I have carries one. Good at scrapping turrets and engineers. Also one of the best weapons to use against the phantom at mid-long range. Used with Marksman it becomes a force to be reckoned with.

The Carnifex is also a beast but I little less forgiving of the occasional miss.

The Arc Pistol is possibly the worst weapon in the game. Decided to try using it as an infiltrator and kept wished I'd brought a backup weapon or my Phalanx instead. The rapid fire means you have to frantically mash on the trigger and very slowly grind down your target. It takes forever to charge shots and is unimpressive. You'd think that weapons that are so heavy would be worth something considering the fact that you are slowing your powers down.

I would have to go with the Phalanx, but only because I'm a power user and I find myself using it only when things get hectic, and the Phalanx is a much more forgiving pistol when stuff is jumping around than the slow firing Carnifex. That, and my aim leaves something to be desired. Out of the first few shots from the Phalanx, one usually causes a stagger, giving me enough time to drift my aim upward for a headshot or two.

That said, I have a great respect for the Carnifex; it has amazing stopping power. Unfortunately, I can't seem to use it well at close range. Most likely a personal reflex failing there.

Arc Pistol is way too heavy.

Phalanx, high fire rate coupled with high damage (I think it's higher than a Mattock), being very light and lots of ammo makes it my favorite sidearm.

More powerful, weighs less, carries less ammo and is way more expensive to acquire.

The Paladin has become my favorite caster weapon.

Out of the three mentioned by the OP, the Carnifex is my favorite. Good stopping power and doesn't weight too much. The Phalanx isn't bad either. Wouldn't be ashamed to use either of those two.

The Arc Pistol however is just really heavy. No good.

Paladin, anyone?

But yeah, I prefer Phalanx or Predator to the Carnifex. If a gun is gonna be High Damage, it needs to be REALLY high damage, otherwise I can settle for higher attack rate and less damage on a pistol.

It's a question of how much firepower you can carry while staying at 200%.

Not like casters need weapons anyway.

Well, arguably it's not like 200% or 175 % is VERY different. Besides, how fast can you mash buttons anyway? I know I need to wait to line up biotic throws properly.

N7 Eagle, for when I need something that fires faster than my Disciple shotgun.

the arc pistol sucks. i used it thinking its weight was justified by its firepower, but its a fairly weak gun. the power shot from teh arc pistol does the same damage as one shot from the carnafax. so why do i want to use the arc pistol if its required to charge every shot?

the phalanx is ok if your looking for a lightweight sidearm.

but then on the other hand the canrafax/paladin can be used as primary weapons. i sue the paladin almost exclusively, while the GPS is my backup weapon. the only reason i even take the GP is becasue i have wepaon weight to waste and thats the heavyest weapon i can also bring along with the paladin.

Weight is a total mess in this game. I modded it out - I was never going to be able to wield the weapons I wanted and balance my cooldowns at the same time.

I think the Weight dynamic is a nice spice but it would be better if they also had an energy pool that you'd have to replenish. Biotic Spam is getting a bit too easy.

The issues I have with the weight system are:

1) inconsistent weights for weapons - frankly, they don't make any sense... you have basic shotguns that weigh twice what equiavlent assault rifles do while having pistols that do as much damage as sniper rifles weighing 1/4 of the weight. It just doesn't work.

2) Its created an all-or-nothing equation. The cooldown bonuses from carrying less weapons are vastly more effective than the weapons themselves. All it does is make sure everyone carries a light weapons load... even classes that are supposed to carry a lot.

I use the Phalanx for its weight. It works well with the Wraith on Vanguards (lolasifyouevenneedweapons).

Any but the Arc Pistol. The rest can all be used to fill a hole in your setup, depending on your weight needs and other equipped weapons
With ammo powers even the lightweight Phalanx can do some good DPS with a tiny dent in your weight limit.
Carnifex (or Paladin) is awesome as a baby sniper and can still get you 200% with the right loadout.
