so i went the blood mage route and killed the arl's (or however you spell it) wife to save the boy at radclifff.. went along a few hours before hitting camp again and alistair let me have it to the tune of a 22 point relationship drop.
i am a few hours in and debating going wayyyy back to reload and go get the mage's help but i wanted to ask if in the grand scheme of things 22 points isnt that big a deal and i will easily make that up as the game progresses? not intersted in the romance line the rpg nerd in me just hates the idea of my main tank being pisses at me
thanks
ticked off alistair

How many gift have you already given Alister?
Just shove his pockets full of figurines and runes and his mom's amulet and duncan's shield and he will forgive anything.

Give him the pendant from the Arls desk and a certain shield later on. It is fairly easy to gain influence with Alastair.
Runes and such also gets you a long way.
Edit: damn you slow internet.

22 points is 1/8 of all faction, it's a big deal. You can probably make it up to him if you' grab everything, but that's a major game component for him. Even with gifts, if you've already given them, it'll be hard to get bunches more. Eventually they're only worth 1 apiece.

Gifts a person likes is min 6. Special Gifts they care about I think is min 11 (might be as high as 16).

The only unforgivable thing you can do as far as Alistair is concerned is sparing Loghain. Unmodded, he WILL leave, unconditionally.

I'd suggest going through the conversation again and trying out different options. How high is your persuade/cunning score?
I think there are ways to get less of a hit.

Duncan's shield + mom's pendant should add up to 20+ with no problems. You can get a couple of points back by saving both the werewolves and elves in the Dalish quest, and also a few if you side with Caridin in Orzammar (assuming he's in your party anyway..). Long run, not really a big deal, assuming Redcliffe is the one of the earlier quests you did.

I managed to kill Connor and only lose 8 approval points from him. I chose the cunning choice, saying that this had nothing to do with me, but rather with him and Arl Eamon. Not sure if that option is available if you kill Isolde though, but I think it is. My character had 16 cunning or something, to make that option work.

For some reason, I told Alistair "I think it went well, don't you?" and he actually gave me +7 approval. I was expecting a gigantic hit to reputation for letting the lady die in a blood magic ritual.
