No .. you can't re-play the game with an old character.. (I was really hoping you could also.) All you can do after you beat the game is load the auto save it creates at the end... This will put you on a road with the option of traveling back to camp.. (that's really all you can do.) This is so you will be able to play new DLC or expansions with that old character.
Why they didn't just make a character export/import option is beyond me.

You have to go through to the end of the game... credits will roll... after the game ends it should create an auto save. (some people have reported that it didn't.. I also don't know if you have to sit through all of the credits to get the auto save. Once it's all over though.. try loading the last auto save and it should take you to that road.

I know somebody else was having this problem also but I can't find the forum post. I wish I knew when it created the auto save... it might create it before you get to the hall right after fighting the archdemon.. I guess if you have a save from before the archdemon you could try just setting the game on easy and trying from that point and see if you get it.
edit: I forgot also.. If you have any saves before the last battle you'll be able to start up any new dlc or expansions from any save within that game... so it's not essential that you beat the game to be able to play anything up coming.. only that you have a save before that point.

That's why it's a pretty good idea to use up all 31 save slots.. Just keep rotating them around and keep saves you think will be important later. If you have any earlier saves just make sure to keep them. That way you can still play those expansions when they come out with your old character.
When you guys start up from an auto save where does the game place you?

Must be a big ol' bug... If it places you back in the hall then that means the auto save to get you on the road should come after the auto save that sticks you in the hall. Just keep that save and see if after they patch the game it works. (starting up a new game won't erase that auto save if your worried about that.. each character gets their own save space.)
