I looked for something similar, but didn't see anything recently.

Thought we could put a list together of some of the things we'd love to see changed or added for companion interactions and LI interactions so it's all in one place.

My Wishes

1. I think this goes without saying, as it's pretty obvious it's a pretty standard desire for most of us on here, but in general more interaction with our companions, like in DAo. Companions in DA2 were great, but I felt like it was very...scheduled. I'd like more backstory and more banter.

2. More friendship scenes and options. Especially with girls, if you're a girl. For instance, I loved being besties with Isabella, but I felt like the friendship, even with no romance, was still kind of flirty. Would have been cool to have some girl talk, and not just one line about what sex with whoever I'm having sex with is like randomly.

3. More relationships between companions. Love interest relationships. Kind of like Fenris and Isabella, though you really don't see that very much, but it's implied. I think that'd be cool.

4. Love interests/companions without mommy-issues, daddy-issues, mage-issues, slavery-issues, templar-issues, sex-issues, sibling-issues. Listen, I'm all for backstory and deep characters, I mentioned that above. And as much as I love Anders and Fenris the constant. every. damn. conversation. ****ing. got very old very quickly, and sometimes, I just wanted a normal person who didn't have so many issues. Kind of like a male version of Aveline. But the only two normal characters, Aveline and Varric- the ones with the least amount of issues, were non-romanceable.  Sometimes I thought- the sarcastic dwarf with too much chest hair is looking mighty fine right about now.

5. Longer romances. Or at least a longer build up, or maybe a more involved build up. And more letting down flirts more easily. For instance, with Anders...there are like four or five romance scenes. It goes like this:

Anders "I love you, but you can't love me because I'm very bad for you!"
Hawke "Um...okay, don't be upset!"
Anders "We're going to be together forever! I'll come over later for some nookie."
Hawke "But...what just happened? I mean I kind of dig the hair, but..."
Anders "I know we just had sex for the first time, but can I move in?"
Hawke "What?."
Anders "I love you so much, lets go blow up a Chantry"
Hawke "......"

And to top it off, she doesn't even get a KISS before they all run off to get killed by whoever. I know it's a video game, but even Isabella doesn't move that fast. Oh, well maybe that's a bad example. lol.

Anyway, those are just a few of my wishes for companions and love interests in the next game.

For me, story and companions are what make the game so enjoyable- would love to hear your thoughts.

Personally? My one *big* wish?

I want to see the affection system trashed, set on fire and thrown off a cliff.

I love Anders and Fenris the constant. every. damn. conversation. ****ing. got very old very quickly

This plays more into a lack of character evolution.

Characters that have issues are fine, as long as you're able to help them through those issues, the problem with the Dragon Age 2 characters, and all the tedious conversations with them, is that they have their issues and then....

....Well, then they have their issues. With no evolution, the characters just remain the same and all topics of conversation remain the same. All the brooding remains the same.

Edit: There you have it, something else for the Wish List - Characters that evolve, change and progress.

Agree with this part
Oh how I wish I could of helped Fenris not be so angry and Anders not be so depressed

I'm just curious what in-game "girl talk" would constitute. I don't know that I engage in a lot of "girl talk" with my female friends. I mean, if we're going with what is considered the stereotype female topics (shopping, fancy dinners, who is dreamy and such), that actually does exist in some of the party banter - there's some mystery hat shop that gets mentioned, Aveline does throw a dinner party, and Fenris is said to have pretty eyes. Etc.
But yeah, I guess this girl is confused by "girl talk." <_<

Ah well maybe that's a me only thing, but my girlfriends and I talk about what we did that day or how work was, or how their relationships are going. Wish I could have asked Isabella what her man issues were, or how she was doing with Fenris.
On the subject of evens to talk about, it may help to actually see the events. Such as Avelines wedding. Or go actually have that drink or watch Anders lose at cards. But maybe that's too Sims for most people.

I view "girl talk" as the female version of "bro talk". Just hanging out with your ladies, chilling and having fun.

Hmm. I guess I don't put a gender distinction on that sort of talk. Seems that would just be friend-banter, regardless of whether the friends are female or male.

And since I enjoyed the banter in DA2, I would be all for more of it in DA3.

The only thing is, there are often problems with f/f dialogues in media.  It is measured through...I want to say Beschel or Beshed Test but that's not right, ugh...basically, how much the female characters interact with each other.  For example, if you look at Disney animated movies, the heroine almost never talks to any other female characters, just male.  So it's an important thing to have f/f dialogues.

I would like this too.  But I also want a DWARF LADY.

As a short, stocky woman, I identify with female dwarves, and want to see them again in DA3, even if I can't play one.  Getting one as a companion would be a bonus.  I can forgive DA2 a lot of things, but not the lack of dwarven women.

I'm down for girl talk with Anders. I don't want anyone to think I'm anti men or pro girl or any sort of weird thing. I'm equal opportunity friend to all. In fact it'd be awesome for Fenris and Anders to be in a secret relationship and...well that belongs best in fanfic. I use the term girl talk loosly, but what I really mean is to have deeper friendships with my closest companions where we talk about more than what I need to fetch for you or help you with this tim2.

The Bechdel test, I believe.

And I agree there should be more interaction between the characters - f/f, f/m, m/m, - it should be a solid representation across the board in order to be fair. I would venture to say that the f/f banter in DA2 was pretty solid. I usually ran around with a party that consisted of f!Hawke, Isabela, Aveline and Merrill (or Bethany), and there was some very funny and poignant dialogue amongst the characters.

I just don't think that what they discussed was, nor necessarily had to be, female-specific in topic/subject matter.

What you want is a Garrus, pretty much.

An easy friendship. No romance required for epic-win dialogue.

Edit: Bioware have been limiting companion interaction to romances a lot in their recent games, but Dragon Age 2 isn't one such game. In my opinion DA2 has probably come closest to "easy friendships" than any Bioware game in history.

Then again, Dragon Age 2 didn't have a whole lot of companion interaction in the first place.

I didn't play ME- well I did, but didn't like them. *ducks* I never finished because although I love the concept I'm prefer to historicals/fantasies/etc. But I am familliar with Garrus a little.  I rolled with Varric most of the time and found his friendship perfect.  He complimented my snarky Hawke to a T.  I would like this type of relationship to a) continue and B)  become even deeper through more personal interaction.

What would be cool and probably someone will point out exactly how impossible and silly this is, but I wouldn't mind having secrets within my party. Say Varric caught me kissing Anders or whatever, but everyone else in the party thinks I'm with Fenris.  Or to take it a step away from romances, for Anders and I to know we're about to blow the chantry up, but not tell anyone else in the party.  Or maybe I know that Aveline sleeps with a teddy bear but if I share that with anyone she'll slit my throat or something. That'd make it really lifelike. Except for the throat slitting part. I'm just thinking out loud now.

ps. +2 @ Maria for genderfluid desire demon. But do not put a half naked ugly guy in front of me and expect me to take it seriously just because it has no shirt.

Good post OP. I just want to add that I really thought that ME3 struck a good balance with the romances. They were really interesting to play through. I think that the setting of DA lends even more opportunity for a greater emphasis on romance though. There is just something about dragons and magic and knights and castles and so on that is just so... well, romantic.

Except for darkspawn, they kill the mood a bit.

More party banter with your LI/about your LI and involving your other party members in it.
Make the whole thing more substantial and give it more depth. Please let me have a kiss or something during gameplay like with Alistair in DAO. It was funny (party reactions) and nice.

I second the OP in what she wrote. The romances (allthough some allready made me smile especially in the banter) were just a little to "without everything".................

Indeed. And every BioWare game I've played where companions could converse amongst themselves passed it. Even BG I.

Meanwhile, here's the 2012 Oscars.

No Cullen and no Tallis for companion/LI. 1000x no.

Duncan as a companion (hell, Leliana was resurrected, they could resurrect Duncan too!)

Lady Dwarf and/or Lady Kossith LI.
