I think what really falls short in the Dragon Age games when it comes to character interaction is pacing, or how spread our the opportunities for new dialogue are throughout the entire game. In Origins, you could basically get access to 80% of a character's personal dialogue as soon as you get that character into camp, with little bits left over for personal quests. Like, I could get Leliana to max approval within a couple of hours, do her quest, and then for the rest of the game, she has pretty much nothing new to say in camp.

In DA2, the pacing was better when it came to conversations, but the interaction still suffered from another problem present in both games. A monastic like detachment from the rest of the world. The continent could be burning and our party members in these games likely wouldn't mention it at camp/their homes. I think it would be a gross improvement if companions actually had entire conversations on the events that take place in that main plot. You picked wolves over elves in Nature of the Beast? Okay, all of the party members should have an opinion on that, and so forth.

It would do a lot of good, I think, if companions in DA3 were made to be more aware and reactive to the adventures you're going on. It would also give the player a reason to want to constantly interact with party members after major events, to get their unique perspectives on how each part of the plot played out.

I agree, it was kind of a disapointing when your companions in Orgins ran out of things to say.  And I didn't like how in DA2, you could only talk to people at specific points in the game

Fenris, I don't know, havn't youtubed the male version. but I think I've heard something about some flirts, or something which is difference for the male and female.

I'm pretty sure there's no difference in gender for the Fenris romance other than a single line from sarcastic Hawke post-love scene.

Since I don't think gender makes a person different (other than what's in your parents), I'm fine with how BW handled things.

So, that's my wishlist.  Keep giving my male PC as many cute boys to romance as possible; female PCs can't have all the fun :P  And keep it gender neutral; I, too, hate how Anders does not reveal to FemHawke his past relationship with Karl.

In DA3, player will hit the "heart button" twice or thrice, bed with the LI regardless of personality, class, race or gender; get a few lines from his/her LI before the final chapter. It is the way how Bioware handles romances.

I wish Bioware can give me some "real" LIs instead of sex dolls but I know it is impossible.

That's the disadvantage of having to spread the lines over a lot of characters. I'm sure that for the people who are really into the romances, it's more of a head game than what happens on the screen anyway.

My wishlist:

*A few more moments of downtime. Not only do you get to know your LI, but your LI gets to know you. They ask more about you. This is key to making a character relationship (of any kind) legit to me. Leliana was my favourite friendship, because she seemed genuinely interested in my character, and made comments about my Warden that made her feel more real and less of a piece of blank paper that stayed blank. I mean, a relationship (again, of any kind) is about those small moments. Of being able to sit in comfortable silence with that person. Of just genuinely enjoying eachother's company.

*The thing that made DA:O superior to DA2 in the romance department was the freedom. You could get the Warden to give their LI a kiss or hug whenever they wanted. I think this really helps make the player feel a connection to the relationship.

*Fade to black without any sort of visual indication of anything more than kissy wissies happening feels off. However, having us being able to see it all is also off. If there is a middle-ground to be found, I would gladly take that over both of those extremes.

*Consistency between every romance. Merrill got a sweet cuddle-after scene, but Fenris didn't? If we have more than one romance, let them all have the same amount of physicality shown.

and last:

*More sexy elves. This is a pre-requisite to any fantasy game and I shall not purchase DA3 if I am not given at least three sexy elf men in DA3.

I don't really have any preconceptions about what any future love interests should be in DA3 other than my personal preference for at least one of them to be female and nice to look at.

The only issues that I had with the love interests in DA2 were that I found all except Isabella to be pretty self-destructive.  Merrill was all but begging for the chance to sacrifice herself for her people, while Anders willingly became a vengeance-abomination for the cause of "Freedom!", and Fernis was utterly poisoned by his hatred of magic.

I guess my point is that I would like for future love interests, or any companion character, to be less self-destructive than those in DA2.  I would personally like to have more companion characters and/or love interests that stand out due to what's RIGHT about them, rather than what's wrong with them.

I think the companions should be whoever can service the story.

That being said, I think a great idea would be to have one companion from DA Origins and one from Dragon Age 2. The rest should be new characters. That doesn't mean that old companions can't show up and be a part of the plot. Not just little cameos, but basically acting as NPCs. Again, Alistar seems important to the plot. So does Morrigan. Do they need to be companions again? Not really. Treat them like Flemeth or Loghain or Sandal and Bohdan.

If I had to choose...

Varric or Isabella from DA 2 and Oghren from Origins. Or maybe Sten. I feel like there's more to learn about these characters. Leliana has already become an NPC main character. I feel like Morrigan is too. Zevran unfortunately is dead on a lot of people's imports...(sadly). Same with Wynne. (Although I won't complain if you brought back Shale. Shale is just....fun.)

But we really only scratched the suface with Sten. I'd like to see the big guy come back and see how he has evolved in the last ten years. I honestly believe Sten could be a kind challenge to the Qunari status quo.

Female dwarves and Kossith are welcome too. Come on, Bioware. Why take away female dwarves? I don't get that regression. I find it depressing.

Also the romances in DA2 were too much cardboard cut outs. They practically all followed the same path with flirt/flirt/kiss/shag/kiss routine. Just insert face and name. Reminded me of the "face in hole" service in the interwebs.
Dam I hated those heart icons. Felt like they were for drooling idiots who cannot read a whole sentence.

There was no such thing in DA2.

Isabela is Rivaini, who are the darkest skinned people in Thedas (that are known about). So, lorewise, that's currently the darkest skintone we're likely to see.

No.  While Rivaini people *are* the darkest skinned people in Thedas, Isabela's skintone is *not* the darkest skintone 'lorewise.'  Gaider has said that Rivaini skintones range from http://social.biowar...9470&lf=8 ]dark tan to ebony[/url].  The darker chocolate (not milk chocolate) and ebony shades is what I'm interested in seeing.

Moreover, your PC in DAO and DA2 can be various shades of black skin.  Would be strange to offer such in chargen if such a shade were not even present/currently known on Thedas.

Ander's brings up Karl when hitting on male Hawke, to say he's been with dudes.  It wouldn't really make sence to tell Female Hawke under the same context

I would like all my romances to be the same too!!1!

In case the sarcasm is lost on people, Merrill gets a sweet cuddle-after scene because she's in love - and says so, cautiously.

Fenris quickly storms off because the encounter made him uncomfortable and brought up troubling memories.

GEE IT'S ALMOST LIKE THEY ARE DIFFERENT CHARACTERS

Come on Lucy, you know better than that.

A bit of all of this. I want some old ones from both games....maybe NPCs that were never in the party and some new ones. I like meeting new ppl :)

I think varric would be a good companion to have, since there is no more hawke dlc having conversations with varric can fill in the gaps.

on the topic of romance i think bisexual was a good idea but i think the problem is it was forced on you, all the characters acted as if it was normal and forced themselfs on you. I think they should keep on the path of bisexual but you have to seek it out not the other way around. for me it was useful as I liked to romance Isabella but i hated the man because his posh voice did not suit a refugge

I can just imagine a Qunari romance.

PC: "You are so sexy and strong."
Qunari:*grunt*
PC: "I think I'm in love with you."
Qunari: "No."
PC: "But I really think we would do well together."
Qunari: "No."
PC: "..."

PC:  "I've got cookies"
Qunari:  "....You must be relieved of these confections. You are a fat, slovenly thing."

Neither Merrill nor Fenris forced themselves on you. Anders and Isabela propositioned you, and Anders got grumpy when you said 'no.'

I think how they handled that one line with fenris was good, he flirts with you briefly and you have the option of selecting a heart, heartbreak icon, or the little swirly thing which dismisses it without losing approval

I actually did feel like the characters (particularly Anders) forced their sexuality on me.  I don't want all the characters to be bisexual because its just not realistic.  Characters should have some preference.

I actually think ME3 handled this aspect extremely well.  Many characters were bisexual, some were not.  If a character "opened" the door to you for romance in ME3 you could gently decline and it didn't alter the friendship in any way.

Why do you think he forced his sexuality on you? I recall him hitting on my PC once. She turned him down and he never hit on her again.

If you turn him down theres an approval drop, so if your a straight guy (a common demagraphic for video game players, I assume) and you don't want to romance another dude, there doesn't seem to be a neutral option.
