Only Miranda strikes me as pedantic, and I still consider her intelligent. We're even told that she was designed to be intelligent.Lucy_Glitter wrote...

I think you mean pedantic. They are a tricky sort.

Merrill seems very stupid but sweet to me.
The way I saw it, the "stupid" things Merrill did could be reasonably attributed to hubris and lack of common sense, and there are plenty of intelligent people like that.

Perhaps. I found her rather charming, personally, but I'm not quite sure how to interpret Charisma.

Yeah. That could explain it. Merrill sure knows alot about her dalish history and so forth. So that would make her somewhat intelligent. But I still don't see her as the smart/educated type, becuase all the rest of her personallity tells me otherwise.
She can't find her way around the city. She comes of as immature, naive, and when Hawke try to bluff the guards, she calls the bluff and unintendedly starts a fight. It's like that all the way through the story. She don't understand what is going on around her. That's why I can't see her as the smart/educated type.

In something like Jade Empire a relationship (like Silk Fox's) might just sort of end. And so people would post "Is my romance still active? How do I know?" And then you'd end up checking a guide on GameFaq's to see if you've messed something up. Fenris could be tricky too.
That's been improved somewhat in DAII with the tokens of affection that show a relationship is active.
At any rate, if you screw up a relationship in dialogue, I'd rather the LI confront you and possibly have an argument with you. Or you could approach the LI, navigate through the chill and get back on course.
So you wouldn't really need "romance faqs". You could just do what feels right. And if it goes wrong...weather the storm gracefully when arguments happen and save the relationship.

Desire Demon or girl, possessed by Desire Demon - the most interesting option. As Desire Demons considered among most intelligent ones, this companion could be extremely interesting and onorthodox at the same time. Plus, implementing Desire Demon as a companion and LI allows us to continue good old tradition of "evil girls" in RPG, like Viconia.

My experience-- having written many of the romances from BG2 all the way up to DA2-- is that there is no catch-all when it comes to romances. It's a very subjective thing, by it's very nature, and what one person finds unacceptable is completely appealing to another. One person finds them whiny and self-involved, and another finds that same character intriguing. Hence their optional nature.
David hit the nail on the head with this one. He's right, people -- being people -- are attracted to different personalities.
I like Fenris' brooding personality because when he DOES joke it makes it all the funnier. Some people hate it because they find him whiney. But don't blame BioWare, because even the INGAME characters acknowladge this, showing that it's intended, and of course, a good example how people react to different types of character.

A persona can be charming without high Charisma. It's more about magnetism, social adeptness, and force of personality.RonixisJK wrote...

See BioWare! Everyone wants a desire demon companion. You've got to get on this before Bethesda or CDProjek beats you to the punch.Cultist wrote...

I can sort of see where you're coming from, but I don't really agree. A lot of that seems to fit the "socially isolated academic" type fairly well (I was one myself, so I have some experience there).

I see. Yeah, I think that fits pretty well.
I digress, I suppose; I'd certainly be happy to have an indisputably intelligent character in my party, and we really don't seem to have a lot of those.

They'll need to remember that some people only play the games, so introducing characters from books, comics, whatever, would require a decent level of background filling-in!
That depends. A person like Kai Leng in Mass Effect didn't need backround filling in.

What's really weird is how many people like Charade. I don't get it. The character seems very...thin. She's Hawke's cousin. That's about it. I'll give you fangirls Cullen.. (God, women love him...to me, he's a mentally unstable, slightly murderous bigot....) But besides Cassandra (and Cullen, as we've established) I'm not sure I want any NPCs from Dragon Age 2 as companions or love interests. If we're going to bring back DA 2 characters...give me Anders or Varric or Izzy or Merrill. Or DA;O Shale and Oghren or Sten. (Not to romance...just as companions...I'm not sure I want to romance Shale...although a Sten romance would be interesting...)
Charade is an Amell. And she's specifically an archer. She has be companion, especially if we have a Hawke or Amell Mage Warden Cameo.

All I knew is that he was a cereal stealer, pissed in Andersons vase and stabbed some autistic kid with a toothbrush shiv, that was enough reason for me to go renegade on his arse... especially after he killed Thane! So I don't mind characters from the books and comics being introduced to the game, you soon get to know them through talking to them enough.

I'm really rallying for Finn and a kossith mage (preferably female) to appear as companions. I also wouldn't mind seeing either Soris or Gorim return as companions, city elf and dwarf noble wardens I feel are in need of some relevence. Bethany and Carver are my top picks but unforunately their odds are so abysmal they are hardly worth investing any hope into.

I'd say smart in general post Act 1 once she's accustomed to life outside of her clan and exceptionally well versed in matters of the arcane.

Hmm.. that's strange. I remember I made companion mods which include Desire Demon for DAO. But I couldn't write proper personality and background for her. The information I gather from lore is not enough to create a fully develop character. Too vague. Here's the picture of Desire Demon as selectable companions I made 2 years ago. I stopped after I started a new project.

Hahaha. You could say that again. Too bad I can't finish it. Not enough resource, time constraint, limited skill to use toolset for animation etc,,, Now I'm working on much smaller scope focusing on what happen beyond Eluvian Portal. ( I'm quite certain BioWare wouldn't go deeper beyond the portal. So it's quite safe to write a story about it while maintaining official story's integrity )Maria Caliban wrote...
