Or perhaps he was just a flirt. Some people claim he was flirting with Natheniel... You've got no proof he wasn't bi-

This is exactly what I had logged back in to write. :D

Anders is a flirt and a dope all through Awakenings. Those are traits that actually carry through Act 1 in DA2. People cite his ambient dialogue about "a pretty girl and a fool to shoot lightning at" as evidence of his immutable heterotude
all the time. But - taking Awakenings into consideration - that's all the evidence you can cite. That's pretty flimsy, and it certainly doesn't rule out his being open to both men and women. Besides, as Esper notes above, his interactions with Nathaniel can absolutely be interpreted as flirtatious teasing.

Really speaking, I find Anders' character arc one of the more compelling and consistent ones in the two games. There are some retcons you have to swallow with regards to his status as a Grey Warden, but that's acceptable to me.

Theres probable nothing in Awakening that implies he's only straight, but I don't think they decided on him being bi until DA2.

His personality though definetly changed in DA2

They'll need to remember that some people only play the games, so introducing characters from books, comics, whatever, would require a decent level of background filling-in!

That depends. A person like Kai Leng in Mass Effect didn't need backround filling in. :?

Where I come from 'filling in' can also mean to give the person being 'filled in' a good beating - that's the kind of 'filling in' Kai Leng needs!  :D

But as he was just there to do the IM's dirty work, he didn't really need much background.  A proper companion or LI would, I think?

I see Gascard Dupuis is getting mentions - again, that runs into the potentially dead problem - well, definitely dead in my case, as I killed him a couple of times!

my companion wishlist:

-an old mentor kind of character (these die off too early to be actually appreciated), maybe an old chevalier, a father with a loving family. seeing him interact with his family and mixing the main character into these scenes would be awesome. let's see....an example of a character similar to this to further explain my point.... ahAH i know just the man, tenzin.

-a kossith talvashoth, maybe a mage kossith born out of the Qun so his or her perspective on the matter could be interesting.

- a centuries old elf from the age of arlathan or even before when the elves still had their long lifespans.

The best decisions in games have an effect not only on the narrative but on some aspect of game play, and I'd like it if who you decided to romance was one of those decisions. I always thought it would be cool if there was some kind of stat bonus associated with activating a romance with a character akin to what you get from getting deep into friendship or rivalry territory. Say you have your LI with you in your party, it makes sense that they would feel especially protective about you so maybe if your PC's HP sank below 25% they'd enter a "rage mode" and do increased damage while their MP or AP refilled at twice the normal rate. They'd also have unique battle cries for when they entered this mode. Just something to personalize the experience a little further.

Oooo now that I like! Each individual romanceable companion could come with their own "talent" that becomes active once you've cemented a romantic relationship with them and comes into play during battle (like the rage mode thing you mentioned if t he PC's health is below a certain percentage) their "talent" could also be unique based on what class he/she is. One thing I liked about DA2 is that your LI did have a unique battle cry if you died, Anders' one was particularly heart breaking.

Now these are great suggestions!

Cause I'm sorry, if there's a battle going on and your LI fell, I'm sure you would run to their side. I would be nice to see something happen to that effect as talent wise.

The gameplay suggestion isn't great when you consider the optional nature of romances, it would make min/maxing a pain.

Give the PC a small bonus for maxing Friendship or Rivalry for the various companions. Like the bonuses in the Witcher 2 and Alpha Protocol.

Leave romances out of it.

I'd love to see Cole from Asunder, since his character was so fascinating. And Cassandra for LI. And Cullen, of course, but that goes without saying!

No, please. Keep those out of media charachters out of the games.

We already got that, or do you want more than the 50 point bonus?

Cullen seems popular... I like the Idea of Lia(The Elf who can become a city guards woman) and Shianni(The warden's sister if he were a city elf.) as Companions. I also hope that we get a lubriciously Lawful good type as well as a Desire Demon, For the lulz.

For me it really depends on the setting of the game, and what we are supposed to acomplish. Some characters returning would be nice, but there would have to be a point to it. I simply don't know anything about whats supposed to happen in DE3 and can't say who I'd want as companions.

If we don't get Sandal and Bohdan back, it would be neat to have a tranquil follow you around for bartering and enchanting...

And please, dont make them bisexual.

Nothing against gay folks, but I dont play video games so I can have same-sex NPCs hit on my character.

Girls hit on guys, guys hit on girls, thats all fine with me. But it really takes me out of the experience when the NPCs just assume my PC is gay.

People talk about Anders and his sexuality all the time, but guys, be honest, he was straight in Awakening. That's not an opinion, that's a fact; one that BioWare was all too happy to retcon, just like they did with certain other characters.

I'm cool with bisexuality IF IT MAKES SENSE FOR THE CHARACTER.

Zevran makes sense as a BI companion because he outright EXPLAINS IT TO YOU.
Leliana makes sense because SPOILERS HER PAST OMG.
Fenris makes sense because he's basically a blank slate.

Characters shouldnt change to accommodate the story. It should be the other way around, because it's the characters who drive the story.

seeing as Cole is spoiler before the book or DA3 began, it's a long shot

not to mention he basically has the mind of a 12 yr old boy inside a 20 something body, squick

When I read that, I read "If we don't get Sandal and Bodahn back, it would be neat to have a tranquil follow you around for bartending and enchanting...

And you know, it isn't that much dfferent, given the enchantment kit Sandal seems to have picked up along the way.

Cassandra
Cullen
Kossith Tal'vashoth (female)
Kal-Sharok Dwarf
Tevinter blood mage
Cumberland mage
Chasind Ash Warrior (comes with mabari)

I don't know enough about the Anderfels to speculate about what kind of companion we might pick up if we happen to travel there, but I'm hoping that the party is very diverse.
Cullen and Cassandra are the only returning characters I hope to see, I want more new characters this time around.

Cassandra is already clearly established as bisexual, didn't you all see the way she swoons for Hawke irrespective of gender at the end? If she's retconned as straight or gay I will be very disappointed.
