My companion wish list.

First and foremost, above all else,

Flemeth. I want her to be my companion more than any other character in the DA universe.

Second,
Cassandra

Third,
Shale, in either Dwarf or Golem form.

No more heart icons, seriously. I am old enough read texts and decide what to choose. And english is not even my mother tongue so there.

I guess you never ninjamanced anybody in origins. When Leliana told me she loved me I was like..."Oh..well..thanks? I love you too in a non-sexual good friend way...um...you always say it's cute when I kiss Alistair...I'm confused."

I actually liked that things like that could happen (whether BioWare intended it or not).  I liked the idea that it seemed companions could get the wrong end of the stick about things your character could say (not just in romances of course).  Having someone such as Leliana think your Warden was giving her signals when they weren't and making allot of (wrong) assumptions on this felt like something she might actually do.  Even her not taking it well still felt believable to me.  So whether it was intended by the writers or not, I liked that it could happen :)

Got to agree with Ukki on this one.  Do not need role play crutches to figure out obvious dialogue.  As for DAO romances, depending on if I chose to romance either Morrigan or Leliana, the other one always tried to pick a cat fight.  Apparently "my" Warden was so luvable, that all the babes had crushes on him, without him even trying.  So its not like it was a "ninjamance".

I don't think they'll get rid of the heart, just because there will always be some straight dude out there who, if there was no obvious THIS IS THE FLIRT OPTION, would accidentally romance a male companion and then rage on the internet that the game forced his character to be gay - especially with paraphrases as they currently are.

It was different in Origins when you could read the whole line before you picked it. But there's been plenty of time where paraphrases and up saying nothing like what you thought they were gonna say.

With the dialogue wheel and no icons (ME1/2) I've wondered a few times what the game does and does not consider a romantic options. Sure, sometimes it's obvious, but there are several times where it isn't ("It's unexpected" in dragonage.wikia.com/wiki/Talk_to_Anders comes to mind).  Even with the DA:O full text options, I still seemed to give Alistair the wrong idea for a while.

As far as romance goes, I just want a nice girl that can put up with me.

:o Oh you mean in DA3!  Errr... never mind.

Yes it's a lame joke but I had to say it.

I'd like to see how a relationship between a city elf and a noble would work out, but hey, it's not a make or break factor for me.

Bioware, I hope you're reading this.

(Sorry that I'm using Fenris as an example throughout most of this. I was
partied up with him most of the time.)

Fenris and Anders were the only two I was interested in. And the OP is
right that there was no middle ground. No hot rogue guy (who isn't a dwarf)
that's kind of on the fence. He isn't pro/anti anything. I mean, I'm sorry. A
dwarf? Really? Why wasn't there a dwarf chick too, huh? Why did the male (or
lesbian) players luck out and get Aveline, Merrill, and Isabela?

Fenris topped Anders as far as looks were concerned. Anders topped Fenris
as far as being more affectionate. Fenris's programming was buggy as hell and
every little thing (bug) would end his romance. It was weird and annoying.
Thank god for saved games. I think there should be more options for romance.
Maybe even more options for companions. Some RPG's will let you party up with a
plethora of characters. You can skip back and forth from one to the other and
choose who is right for your party.

Also, why couldn't Fenris move into Hawke's estate? That would have made
gameplay more amazing. If one companion can move in, why can't the others? It
was frustrating because I (and so many other players) really wanted that option
and Bioware just said: NOPE. Kind of a ridiculous move on their part. They
could have even fixed it with an expansion or DLC - something. But again -
NOPE. (Bioware: Just give the fangirls what they want. Thank me later when you
take it all to the bank.)

Anders moved in - hell you even got to have sex with him a second time.
Like a real couple. I understand Fenris' character was sad and mopey, but there
could have been a point in which the romance achievement was earned a bit
sooner than, say, the last battle. And because of said achievement, he could
have moved in and the player would have been rewarded with a more cut scenes,
dialogue, or sex. Or all three. (Yes, I know we're lame. But we're willing to
pay to indulge in our freakishly lame endeavors...)

Can DO3 please have something like that? Can it?

I liked how the characters had depth, and they each had their own
convictions. Some were overplayed, but I understand. It's not a book/film -
it's a videogame.

Sorry, not trying to 100% complain here. I would like to see improvement in
the character interaction (and an increase in romance options). I loved the
banter. It was amusing. Sometimes making your little Hawke run from one place
to the next was boring - the banter made it fun. Also, I think it should make a
difference how a companion interacts with you based on the class you choose. I
liked that Fenris could fall in love with a mage - don't get me wrong. But I
think the dialogue was still too wooden. It was the same dialogue for a warrior
and rogue class - with very minor differences. Hell, he even says something
about being in the company of more mages and it's so indirect it could apply to
Hawke, Bethany, or Anders. I know it takes a bit more manpower, but why not
have three separate scenes for the three separate classes? I'm sure gamers will
fork over the money to pay the difference. I would.  ;)

Also - drama. One of the biggest motivators in this game was drama. I was
all for it. That’s what happens when you draw a female crowd. (Sorry Bioware,
lol.) Anyway, I was curious throughout the game to see if I could get some of
my companions to fight over me. Like... trigger a cut scene with an actual fist
fight. Namely between Anders and Fenris - because that would have been hot AND
entertaining as hell. I know there's banter between the two, but I'm talking a
full-on cut scene. Maybe even one where your character has to intervene, using
fists, or pulling one person off the other, or who knows. Something creative
like that.

(I mean, come on. What gamer dudes - and, yes, lesbians - out there don't
want to see a cut scene of a sexy girl fight? Huh?)

It would be a bigger project to incorporate more variety, but I think it
would play off nicely and it would improve the replay value. Also... Bioware...
fans WILL pay for it. Hint, hint. :::cough::: marketing :::ahem:::

Also, someone here mentioned being able to just run around and have tons of
casual sex, maybe even contract diseases (like in Fable 2). That would be
interesting. Lol. I realize we’re not playing Second Life here or anything
(...ugh...) - but still. Let’s fix some of the things that went awry in DA2.

P.S. I know this is unrelated to companionship but another thing that would be good to change:  variety in the layout of dungeons/caves/home interiors/ruins/wooded pathways. I couldn't believe how many maps were re-used in DA2. It was laughable.

My first playthrough, I met Ander first, so I flirted with him because he was there, and I had liked him in Awakenings, even tho he wasn't the same. I was also a mage, so our goals/lot in life were similar. I could relate to him.

I met Fenris, and in the very first shot of him, I was just like, "OMFG I'm going to romance him."

Now, unfortunately in Act 2, be it cos its a bug, or the just the annoying way Fenris's romance is planned, but I talked to Anders first, and flirted with him. Thus, I was was still able to flirt with Fenris, but didn't realize until much later that I had blown it with him, and would be stuck with Anders.

Whatever, I roleplayed with it. Ended up being quite fun. Felt like Hawke was a girl who had settled with Anders because he needed her, but had always had a thing for Fenris that alas, would never be. If only Fenris had stayed at her house that night. Sigh.

But for the msot part, that was all in my own head. It would have been nice if Anders had confronted me at some point being like, "I noticed you're always staring at Fenris when we're out questing..." or, even better, if I had the option to push Fenris against the wall and kiss him (rather than wait for him to do the same to me), and have him reject me or something.

So yes to more drama! Sure, Fenris and Ander can fight over Hawke in some banter, but have an actual cutscene, where like, Hawke's hanging out at Fenris's house, having some wine and a chat, and Anders bursts in like, "WTF?!?!"

One thing that I really hope is that the voice actor for my character does not come of as creepy like both Hawke and Shepard did. Male Shepard's romance dialogue in ME3 made me cringe, it was so painful to listen to.

I thought the female Hawke and Shepard were both pretty good. I've only played a little of male Hawke (who seems alright, but off since I'm used to the other one) and none of Shepard (who I always hear bad things about). Maybe Bioware is better at casting female PCs?

I'm not really that bothered by Male Shepard's romance lines.  I will say Male Hawke's romance lines were more believable though.

LI suggestions:

1. Loghain. You think I'm kidding. 100% serious on this.
2. Bring Adam Baldwin in the DA universe and have him voice a new character. Can't have Reegar in ME3? We can have him in an alternate universe.
3. Cullen. Don't make him into another Joker - people have been wanting to romance him since the first game. Let him be an LI in DA3!

And since I pretty much agree with everything else on here considering deeper relationships and interaction with the LI, as well as more drama, I shall not repeat it. Just know that it is indeed very much wanted. :)

Great drama moments from BG: when my character noticed that his li had been turned into a vampire.

The best thing about those moment is though that there is a option to make things better, even it is not so obvious and has to be found out.

Note for possible DA3 team.

I don't think they'll bring back Loghain as a party member, since he's probably dead in majority of the imports. A cameo, sure. But not a party member.

They're going to want DA3 to be accessible to people who have never played Dragon Age before - so if its anything like DA2, they're going to give those people the option to pick one of three "defaults" and I seriously doubt they'll determine whether or not you get a party member based off which one you picked.

For me, it was tough to gain Anders' friendship and Fenris ended up being maxed out by the end of the first Act. I wasn't going one way or the other (mage vs. templar) - I was just playing casually as a rogue. But I ended up doing Anders' companion quest first, and I playfully flirted with him - out of nowhere he kisses me and says he's going to meet me at my house. I was like, "Uh ok cool." So I went to my estate and there's Anders. I didn't take anything he said seriously (because I wasn't that interested in him) and just picked the joke option a lot. He still ended up in bed with me. Then he said he loved me. I was annoyed by him at that point so I broke up with him - not that we were an item, but he seemed to think so. Then I did the Fenris companion quest and of course we ended up sleeping together. He "bailed" but not really because I kept him in my party the whole time. Everyone around me was like, "So you and that elf huh?" So apparently it was still a thing - he just didn't move into the mansion. In all the wiki pages they say he "ends" the romance but that's not true. He just bails when you two have sex, but the romance achievement is still unlockable. Plus any Hawke-related banter on his part is romantic. That's what annoyed me about Bioware's decision to not have Fenris move in. Even if he didn't move in, they could have put in extra cut scenes of other interactions. Definitely something hilarious like Anders bursting in and flipping out. Or even if Fenris could say, "I love you." He never outright says it. The character does love Hawke and remains loyal to her throughout the game. If you unlock the romance achievement, Varric tells the seeker that "Everyone went their separate ways from Hawke. Well... everyone but Fenris."

There is, however, a point in which (if you're romanced with Fenris) if you go to see Anders in his clinic, he reprimands you for dating Fenris. (I believe this is in Act 3.) If you are partied with Fenris, then Fenris walks over to the two of you, stands right next to you, and kinda (in so many words) tells Anders to STFU. It's brief though and not worth playing 12 to 20 hours just to see it. They need more "candy" along the way.

I am unsure what they will bring to the table for DA3. I hope the overwhelming demand for awesome love interests is met. (Also, why is every love interest white? Isbala is a weak exception - but seriously... I'm sure there are gamers out there who want to romance a black/asian/hispanic male or female?)

Well, let the woman-protag have better choices than a possessed homicidal maniac and a "hot/cold" issue-riddled (but none-the-less sexy) elf.

The Fenris romance was somewhat okay, but it was way too distant. No move-in. No real connection.

And what is this rubbish about having her wait for 3 years (and be completely faithful to a walk-out) before coming clean about his feelings? Really? I mean.... Really?
