I didn't. Not one bit. I suppose the purpose of that contrived cut-scene was to make you feel that you (as Shepard) aren't invincible. But what I felt was that Kai Leng, nearly dying at my hands on Thessia (Yep, only 2-3 health bars were left before the cut scene) pulled off a 'Oh my, this guy is gonna kill me, time to bring in the gunship' and then stupidly bragged about it. Funnily enough, the crew tries to console Shepard not to take it too hard, but I the player, never felt it. Did you not feel it too or you think it was orchestrated well?
Did anyone actually feel the defeat on Thessia at Kai Leng's hands?

I felt sad because it was hit pretty hard however I did feel that Shep's reaction was a bit much. It was more like he was throwing a tantrum to me, felt out of character.

What I really felt was the defeat at the end of the game, where I was forced to timidly surrender to the creepy Reaper Overlord.

Agreed, the scene was too out of place, and generally I hate fights where you are "supposed to lose", despite overly winning.

I did.
My heart had the heavy feeling like someone I knew died. I thought maybe I did something wrong in the game lol.

To be honest, i had forgotten he was even there. I felt the fall of Thessia and evreything else that goes along with it a great deal, he was barely a blip on the radar in comparisson.

I did. (When the asari was trying to radio Shep but she couldn't hear her voice) Not because of Kai Leng but because I couldn't save the people

I took Shepards reaction to be due to the loss of Thessia itself not Kai Leng. Honestly who wouldn't feel that? Totally not out of character at all.

@^, well the ending is in an entire different league of botching things. But what about the Thessia defeat reaction?

Yea...made me want to shoot him in the face more though.
So mission accomplished I guess.

The part that really made me feel bad were all the dying asari. All the way up we'd told them that if they just sacrificed themselves for this, it was game over, we win! Then, that rat fink steals it out from under us with a dirty trick and I have to listen to them die. That did make me feel pretty bad.
As far as him beating us ... uh, who lost to him? I didn't. He only won because he ran away. And that only made that dead and dying asari thing feel that much worse. I got beat by a dirty cheater.

Yeah this. That's what I felt at Thessia, nothing to do with Kai Leng and loosing the data but the loss of Thessia itself and all the people. It was very litterally gut wrenching and in a way felt like we were letting Liara down too when she is doing her damndest to help us retake earth.

I didn't feel sad...losing a rigged fight I could never win? I hated those rigged fights for being "necessarily"

I wanted to say yes in that, I felt bad that the plans were taken from my hands due to Cerberus.
I really don't think Thessia could have been saved, there was too much preparation involved and seeing as how it took time to even use the Crucible, it wouldn't have done much to keep from the Assari's from falling.
And really.... the city itself fell ---- not so much the Assari. Like Javik said --- its only a complete loss if the last Assari fell into extinction.

They should have just did a cut scene showing Shepard getting his/her ass kicked in a fist fight if they wanted us to feel like we lost.

its funny how bioware talks about a final boss being too 'video gamey' but then fails to see the irony with the Thessia scene. That scene was too 'cinematic' or rather too 'hollywood.' We the players are forced to 'lose' to this guy, and our shepards have wounded pride. Plus the scene has its own problems: like how the prothean VI can detect an indoctrinated person (kai leng), go into 'security mode' but still be downloaded by said indoctrinated person; thats wholly contrived!

I actually did feel frustrated after Thessia. That was one of the moments that actually had some emotional pull with me.
Also, I'd failed the influence check with TIM in the temple - so I wondered if there was an alternate, happy-ending for the Thessia mission, if the check had succeeded. At the time I thought, "man, what a great plot fork." .... .... ...

Put it this way I reset and reloaded many times seeing if could change the outcome.
Thats is why it was good. Shepard has always won and having such a defeat for the player is a very good thing. Shows he is not a god, he is not invincible and can lose. I was very glad later however getting revenge for Thane.

I felt it. I was really pissed off that Kai Leng had gotten away, and talking to the Asari Councilor afterward about how I'd failed to save her home planet just felt awful.

Didn't feel defeated on my first playthrough as a manguard, if only because... How does one feel defeated as a biotic freight train?
Felt it a little more as an engineer, if only cause I wasn't spending my time grinding his face into the pavement not giving a damn about his helicopter.

That was badly written as it felt too forced on you.
