Did anyone actually feel the defeat on Thessia at Kai Leng's hands?

I shot him as he was stuck in place flipping for a minute and destroyed him quickly (laughed that he bugged out and never got near me). Then he had to pull out a massive gunship to actually take us down (and still didn't succeed in killing us). What irked me the most, though, was his arrogant personality. Seriously, he had to resort to giant gun and missiles to have a chance and then gloats about it.

He wasn't really a great villain... he was just felt shoe-horned in to annoy us. And if you didn't read the books, it was much worse.

No, I thought it was railroaded, predetermined, forced tosh. There was no way for us to "win" that battle, no way to succeed, and I thought Leng was as laughable an adversary as they come.

I was disappointed by pretty much all of the Thessia mission, but the finale was a joke.

I started skipping cutscenes in ME3 after skimming the subtitles.

So much felt like a straight up story as opposed to an interactive experience from the previous games.

So no, never felt defeat (or victory), just felt like I was watching a story continue on.

Felt a bit for some of the characters who died in that (Talon 5 going down had a bit of an impact) and I thought Javik winding up Liara was amusing but I didn't feel any sense of defeat because I didn't screw up. It was just "That mission done, on with the next." It was no worse than Earth getting attacked - completely beyond my control. I only really feel for those events that I had influence in - I felt pretty beat up about losing a couple of people in the ME2 suicide mission the first time I played it.

Kai Lang had to use gunships to stop me because he could not himself. Even then I survived. I did not lose I just took a breather and waited for round two.

It probably would've been easier to accept had they cut out the gunship constantly interrupting the fight. Just have Shepard fight Kai Leng for the full mini-boss battle, then cut directly to cutscene, where the gunship destroys the temple. Maybe they should've added troops to the fight, as well.

Also, to those who say, "I could've taken him! Biowur was stupid for putting that scene in!" that tactic was hardly new to the saga. I seem to recall the fight with Saren on Virmire where something very similar happened. Also, the Shadow Broker fight and the battle with Vasir. Yet nobody seems to complain about them!

I think it's just easy to hate Kai Leng. I don't blame you, the Kai Leng we received in ME3 was definitely not the Kai Leng that was introduced to us in "Retribution."

The best part of Kal leng was when he died.  I call him a Metal gear Solid reject.

The only point I felt emotionally impacted was when the two Reapers descended on the asari squad on the radio, but that's more due to the emotionally manipulative music rather than the scene itself. Otherwise the rest was laughable.

I did feel defeat at Mac Walters' hands, yes. Too bad we never had a chance to fight back.

The whole thing was terribly forced, and the email you receive afterwards from him was cringe-worthy. I guess that was a sign of what was about to follow. It's odd how much of a difference there is in terms of characters. Tela Vasir and Saren were infinitely better than the Collector General and Kai Leng. TIM in ME2 was great as well. The Catalyst is in a league of its own though. I never imagined a single character could have destroyed the entire franchise for me in the span of ten minutes.

Absolutely no. Instead, I was being angry that the little **** didn't have the guts to fight without the help from the gunship. And since when has a gunship ever stopped Shepard?

I also felt that the distress of the Asari was a little bit too forced, somehow, and there was no reason to blame Shepard for the fall of Thessia. Even if she/he would have been able to get the info needed, Thessia would've still fallen. The reapers were already there and it still would've taken time to get the crucible into a working condition. There was nothing she/he could've done about that. Also - and no offence to Liara's fans - she really annoyed me during the shuttle ride to Thessia.

"What if we're too late. My people are dying down there."    Geez, well, you know what, it's not a sunday picknick going on at Earth, either.

"What if Thessia faces the same fate?"  Well, it's not any more important than any other world, like Earth, Palaven and Tuchanka. Still, Shep keep reassuring Liara about how they will safe her people and world. :pinched:

I felt shocked that Leng just got away with the information that could've enabled us to win the war. Even more so as more Reapers descended on Thessia.

I liked it.
was it rail roaded? yeah....
no less than being forced to leave a squaddie to die on Virmire.
No less than not being able to Run the whole Suicide Mission in an insane blitz a 13 strong squad all at once.(still enjoy the kick ass small team compromise we get though. make no mistake. :D)

i wasnt expecting to get to thessia and get jipped of my victory like that.
That i had to run away because of the full fledged invasion made it worse. I had promised victory was near!
Kai Leng thought he was better than me made it worse.
As a renegade, anytime Shepard loses or the bad guy escaped or ran away or beat me. My only retort would be "DO YOU KNOW WHO I AM??."

having the ability to monolougue Kia Leng as he died would have been cool, but im just as cool with the "stab him and let him die without any measure of equality between them."

(thessia was also a symbol of the Asari's place in the galaxy and "untouchable " status as the first in the cycle to reach the citadel. to see that it was all based on a selfish deception and to then see them get crushed by the reapers in such away is just that: crushing.

Yeah. The dismay I felt when I discovered Kai Lame wasn't the worst character in the game.... <_<

It NEEDED Kai Leng whooping his ass. Would have a perfect time to show why Anderson is intimidated by Leng and why he's TIM's ace in the whole. It also goes well with Shepard's reaction to the mission and crew's words to Shepard.

I wish I could have gotten Kal leng to kill Allers and then I kill him. But I still got to kill him so that was good. I would have had him kill another character as well.

From my unpublished review/rant/therapy:

(...)

Vendetta also starts explaining about a major component you need to get the Crucible working, the Catalyst, which has been introduced earlier in the game (and which I conveniently forgot about but, in my defense, so did Shepard till now!). You didn't have a clue what it was back then and you also won't now because the big-bad-ninja-who-is-supposed-to-kick-your-ass drops in unannounced and decides to steal the VI from you in one of the most disappointedly-rigged fights in gaming history.

This is why there are no heavy weapons in ME3, people, because you'd promptly blow that gunship out of the sky and Kai Leng would actually have to fight. Not entirely satisfied with the removal of heavy weapons and the addition of a gunship, however, our Cerberus assassin is given a magically-recharging shield as well. Bottom line, he blows up half the temple, steals the VI, and starts typing his twelve-year old victory speech.
