He wasn't really a great villain... he was just felt shoe-horned in to annoy us. And if you didn't read the books, it was much worse.

Felt a bit for some of the characters who died in that (Talon 5 going down had a bit of an impact) and I thought Javik winding up Liara was amusing but I didn't feel any sense of defeat because I didn't screw up. It was just "That mission done, on with the next." It was no worse than Earth getting attacked - completely beyond my control. I only really feel for those events that I had influence in - I felt pretty beat up about losing a couple of people in the ME2 suicide mission the first time I played it.ElSuperGecko wrote...
No, I thought it was railroaded, predetermined, forced tosh. There was no way for us to "win" that battle, no way to succeed, and I thought Leng was as laughable an adversary as they come.
I was disappointed by pretty much all of the Thessia mission, but the finale was a joke.

It's odd how much of a difference there is in terms of characters. Tela Vasir and Saren were infinitely better than the Collector General and Kai Leng. TIM in ME2 was great as well. The Catalyst is in a league of its own though. I never imagined a single character could have destroyed the entire franchise for me in the span of ten minutes.

Yeah. The dismay I felt when I discovered Kai Lame wasn't the worst character in the game.... <_<

Vendetta also starts explaining about a major component you need to get the Crucible working, the Catalyst, which has been introduced earlier in the game (and which I conveniently forgot about but, in my defense, so did Shepard till now!). You didn't have a clue what it was back then and you also won't now because the big-bad-ninja-who-is-supposed-to-kick-your-ass drops in unannounced and decides to steal the VI from you in one of the most disappointedly-rigged fights in gaming history.
This is why there are no heavy weapons in ME3, people, because you'd promptly blow that gunship out of the sky and Kai Leng would actually have to fight. Not entirely satisfied with the removal of heavy weapons and the addition of a gunship, however, our Cerberus assassin is given a magically-recharging shield as well. Bottom line, he blows up half the temple, steals the VI, and starts typing his twelve-year old victory speech.
