Did anyone actually feel the defeat on Thessia at Kai Leng's hands?

Definitely. Not so much as a defeat by Kai Leng as it was knowing you failed to acquire knowledge of the Catalyst, a failure that threatened to undermine everything you had done to that point, all the alliances forged, all the friends who gave their lives in the war effort.

Can't say it did. I mean, my Shepard, Liara & Javik were totally kicking his ass. Then cutscene happens and BOOM! we lose.
I hate such "forced loses", cutscene incompetence or whatever you call it in general though, so the bias was against it before it even happened Image IPB

Not as much as the game seemed to have wanted. I also didnt understand why my Shepard somehow thought getting that Prothean VI would have saved Thessia.

I didn't feel defeated at all....I felt cheated since I was about to kill him off and then a cutscene rudely interrupted my victory.

Yep not an easy fight, but a doable one.  Not like the Thessia loss where there is NO way to win because of plot armor.

But there's nothing good about winning the Ser Cauthrien fight.  You just miss the whole Escape from Fort Drakon scene, which is awesome.  I think it would have been better if the fight had been unwinnable.

No, because the cutscene lost, not me.

I just felt a sudden boost of Rage against Kai Leng and Cerberus on top of the rage that built throughout the game.
That bastard slipped twice from my grasp and now had the necessary information to complete the crucible. And on top of that he almost killed and... RARGH! RAAAAAGE! :D
I just wantet to bash him, which is why I felt great satisfaction after the fight in the room of the Illusive Man and went on like "Thats done, now to you Harbinger! We have unfinished business you Mistvieh!".
But then... CLIFFHANGER! And Again: RAGE! ^^

I think at one point he was suppose to force Shepard into having to chose to save either Liara or one of your other squad mates, so the scenes after might not have been fully changed.

That would have been far better, but of course there was no way they'd kill off Liara. She would have died in my game, I didn't kill Ashley so I could save Liara while Kaidan died.

Actually no, I did not. And at the time this was so bizarre to me because throughout all the other games, I have felt SO MUCH for the Asari, grown to care for the race so much. Yet at the end of Thessia I was numb and emotionless.

Like I said, at the time I could not figure it out, but then when I got to the ending of the game and had the same reaction I understood why-- I had just worked so hard to accomplish something and in the end it didn't matter how well I did, there was nothing I could do and my fate was being chosen for me.

So, I felt numb and emotionless at a point where I could have had tons of emotion because of plot armor.

I felt defeated, but it was mainly that I just watched an entire planet get destroyed cause Bioware wanted to make Kai Leng out to be some awesome badass villian, so they just dropped loads of plot armor onto him in a fight that was hardly worth having

I didn't. Not one bit.

I was devastated by the Fall of Thessia. Death of so many asari, lieutenant that defended so bravely, two valiant gunship pilots. Tried to save last one from harvester. It was really heart-breaking moment.

I hated Kai Leng because he killed Miranda in my first playthrough.

If you compare this to Balak situation (Bring Down the Sky, ME1 DLC), I actually felt that Balak, while a coward planned his escape cunningly rather than running away in a cut scene.

I would have felt it more if Kai Leng had actually kicked my ass. But all he did was flip around in circles while I wailed on him.

I felt bad for the asari, but not at all for Shepard's 'defeat' at the hands of Kai Leng. I hope you are understanding my thought here.

It felt a bit forced but still quite dramatic. I was always confused on why everyone said Thessia was "destroyed" afterwards though. Isn't it in the process of being destroyed, just like earth and Palavan?

The way "I" took it (my Shepard), since I was role-playing, was more like a personal defeat, in the sense that I failed Liara, more than I failed my mission. If Liara had not been my LI, I might have considered it a temporary set back if anything. The thing is Thessia is Liara's home world, and of course the Asari's too, and my canon Shepard likes the Asari, a lot, and loves Liara. So, seeing Thessia crumbling around her as the mission progresses is already a failure on its own regardless of the mission's goal.

It pains my Shepard to see it happen almost as much as it pains Liara to see her home world being crushed and burnt to ruins. Failing the mission isn't a good thing, surely not, and Shepard is pissed about it (my Shepard that is), it's more frustration than anything else, but on-screen Shepard looks depressed more than pissed off (overall the way it is shown is perhaps too dramatic for many Shepards out there), so I had to role-play and rely on my own canon and some suspension of disbelief, but it's ok it's part of role-playing in any games.

I did.

My heart had the heavy feeling like someone I knew died. I thought maybe I did something wrong in the game lol.

Ya that scene really got me going too. I thought I had failed in some way and was ready to re load a save.

Both Kai Leng fights sucked balls bigtime. Why not make them real bossfights instead of totally scripted non-sense . Kai Leng barely has more HP then a standard enemy and dies in a matter of seconds once he actually can die even on insanity.

Well Kai Leng just came across like a punk and Shepard just came across like s/he was pouting over being beaten for once so... no, it didn't really have an impact for me.

The same thing, buddy.) Losing because of script pissed me off, but not in the way plot writers wanted.

I smile every time the Asari councilor is about to cry because she didn't listen to my warnings.

This. I really don't know why we're not allowed to rub this whole thing into the council's face.

I did. It was a very tough situation and I felt it wholeheartedly. Very well done scene IMO.

I felt for the Asari, for Thessia. Not for the "defeat" at the hands of Kai Leng.

His lines in the whole game were as follows:
"I can totes kill 3 people."
"Sorry TIM I couldn't kill 3 people."
"Let's fight Shep!"
"Cover me while I run and recharge my shields!"
"Gunship, come in here and save me!"
"Haha Shepard! I totally get credit for that!"
"Run away!"
"He told you to get out of his chair! RAWR!"
"Cover me while I run and recharge my shields!"
"Urk! There's an omniblade in my stomache!"
