Did anyone actually feel the defeat on Thessia at Kai Leng's hands?

This. I really don't know why we're not allowed to rub this whole thing into the council's face.
I guess the writers thought that a crowing Shepard, puffed up and delighted with himself while billions of people died, would not be very likeable to most people.

The council dismissed (and prolly privately laughed at) me when I begged them to listen to me and help me save human colonists. I wouldn't feel a shred of guilt for doing the same to them in their time of need. Sure, I'd help them, but I would make those 3 douchebags suffer as much as possible. You know why? Because they deserve it.

But, hey, pettiness is part and parcel with BSN members.

Isn't it pretty much the same as the first time you fight Saren in ME1? You fight him until his his health drops below a cerain point, then you just let him fly away.
That's what I compared it to, and neither fights bugged me all that much.
Or is it different since you didn't really "lose" the fight against Saren?

If you say so.

The difference was that Saren didn't have plot shields. And you knew he was the final boss, so you knew this was just a preview. Kai Leng wasn't the final boss. Heck, he was just a level boss and wasn't that hard to beat even at the Cerberus base. Even a sick, dying, wheezing Thane took him.<_<

I felt sad because it was hit pretty hard however I did feel that Shep's reaction was a bit much. It was more like he was throwing a tantrum to me, felt out of character.
What seemed weird to me about it was that Liara is trying to comfort Shep during that scene. Shouldn't it have been the other way around? Sure, Shep would be upset too at being defeated by Cerberus, but it was Liara's homeworld.

I felt for the Asari, for Thessia. Not for the "defeat" at the hands of Kai Leng.
His lines in the whole game were as follows:
"I can totes kill 3 people."
"Sorry TIM I couldn't kill 3 people."
"Let's fight Shep!"
"Cover me while I run and recharge my shields!"
"Gunship, come in here and save me!"
"Haha Shepard! I totally get credit for that!"
"Run away!"
"He told you to get out of his chair! RAWR!"
"Cover me while I run and recharge my shields!"
"Urk! There's an omniblade in my stomache!"

I didn't. Not one bit. I suppose the purpose of that contrived cut-scene was to make you feel that you (as Shepard) aren't invincible. But what I felt was that Kai Leng, nearly dying at my hands on Thessia (Yep, only 2-3 health bars were left before the cut scene) pulled off a 'Oh my, this guy is gonna kill me, time to bring in the gunship' and then stupidly bragged about it. Funnily enough, the crew tries to console Shepard not to take it too hard, but I the player, never felt it. Did you not feel it too or you think it was orchestrated well?
Infiltrator with Javeling?
Yeah I was the same, I have all my armor bonuses on Weapon damage (+ Liara intel bonuses) so Kai Len was down in two shots and he was down to 2 healt bars, the whole fight was badly handled :/
oh and I take Ravagers in a single shot in hardcore, just to point out how OP I am... wait are the flying bugs Ravagers or Harvesters? anyways the only thing that is not dead in a (Javelin/Cloak) + Incinerate combo are the Banshees and the ATLAS and honestly they don't last long after that.

Cutscene incompetence never makes me feel defeated. Only angry at the developers for cheapening the game.
Ha, this.
I was truly immersed in the game by this point, but my reaction was mostly just beyond annoyance with the character of Kai Leng and to the lesser degree the occasional forced, heavy-handed attempts at getting the player emotionally invested. Players are already massively invested at this point. I don't need plotline defeats, bad dreams and manipulation via a dead child when I have the brilliant sequences of Tuchunka and Rannoch.
I felt somewhat sad when I saw the state Liara was in afterwards and the concern the rest of the crew showed for her though.

I found it interesting to see Shepard lose for once. Sure, the "losing" scene against KL could've been handled better, but it still worked for me.
Plus, lots of games have characters with plot armor, so it didn't bother me.
