Did anyone actually feel the defeat on Thessia at Kai Leng's hands?

Nope, I completly crushed him in the fight and thought after he brought his gunship: "hey game, let me kill him and his stupid ship". I always knew I would be superior in a head to head fight and I was right every time I faced him outside of a cutscene
I just was angry about how badly he was done by BioWare. He had potential to be awesome. Sadly he wasn'T.

This. As I said earlier, it should have been done like the DA:O prison fight. Make it extremely tough, but winnable. As it is now, it's really easy but forces you to lose.

I didn't feel defeated personally since there is nothing you can do as a player to stop it, I sympathised with Shepard though, the answer was so close and it got ripped away. Because it got ripped away it fell into TIM's hands and he tipped off the Reapers.. I think Shepards reaction was perfect, I mean fate of the galaxy was on Sheps shoulders, and shep was only one human.. I think they did that scene well.

being defeated by darth maul had no impact on me. would've actually angered me if cerberus had defeated/prevented me from acquiring it, via large presence, rather than deus ex robo-ninja.

If three gunships and two atlas's dropped, and the atlas missiles caused the floor to collapse and shep had to crawl out of that while his friends were pinned down... would have been ten times better for me.

I felt sad because it was hit pretty hard however I did feel that Shep's reaction was a bit much. It was more like he was throwing a tantrum to me, felt out of character.

I took Shepards reaction to be due to the loss of Thessia itself not Kai Leng. Honestly who wouldn't feel that? Totally not out of character at all.

I felt no remorse for Thessia falling. The asari first sat at the side lines when you recruited the Krogan. The Asari found out about the Crucible and the Catalyst at the Council meeting and Hackett forwarded the progress of the Crucible to the Asari High Command after we recruited the Krogan, instead of immediately volunteering their information to Shepard. They decided to wait it out till the Reapers launched a full scale invasion on Thessia. And then when they realized that they couldn't hold back the Reapers, they decided to give the information to Shepard to save Thessia. Earth and Palavan was taken for days if not weeks already and the Asari High Command knew that the Beacon could lead to the Catalyst and possibly save Earth and Palavan, but they never volunteered this information to save the galaxy and the rest of the Council home world. They only volunteered this information when their home world was threatened, so I had no remorse seeing Thessia fall like Earth and Palavan did. For all of their talk about supporting the Crucible and being the Galaxy mediator, they did nothing till it was their planet being decimated.

I was pissed that Kai Leng got away with plot armor. I always felt that if a fight ends with plot armor protecting the boss, then the fight was not necessary and should have been made into a cut scene. If you are going to use plot armour, don't use plot armor to beat the player. Use plot armor to let the boss retreat or run away, I personally just felt cheated when that happens.

I did feel bad, mostly for failing Thessia to be honest. But the scene was quite frankly very out of place for the ME universe imo. Sort of got that general "Until next time Mr.Bond" feel that screams bad storytelling.

I was annoyed that the Asari built a large temple over a bottomless pit.

I also kicked Tarak's gunship's butt, why couldn't I destroy the Cerberus gunship?

I didn't really see Kai Leng as that important, he was just some random guy who in his head was as good as Shepard, but in reality was just another Cerberus operative to get shot in the face.

He was the Conrad Verner of Cerberus operatives.

I was pissed and wanted to kill him. For me it worked, but it could have been more effective with a squad member death.

The cutscene where Kai Leng "beats" you is the moment you subconsciously feel the game go down the toilet.

What I found even worse is Shepard feels all super depressed about the fall of Thessia. This is the best example of ME3's dumbed down choice system. I didn't TELL him to be depressed! Why can't I be a total hard ass about and and not give a sh*t? Why can't I just angrily hunt down Leng for no reason but to rip the VI out of his cold, dead hands?

The part that really made me feel bad were all the dying asari. All the way up we'd told them that if they just sacrificed themselves for this, it was game over, we win! Then, that rat fink steals it out from under us with a dirty trick and I have to listen to them die. That did make me feel pretty bad.

As far as him beating us ... uh, who lost to him? I didn't. He only won because he ran away. And that only made that dead and dying asari thing feel that much worse. I got beat by a dirty cheater.

This.

When they were saying: "Did Shepard reach the temple?" While reapers were landing all around and cerberus just made off with the ace in the hole I felt pretty bummed out.
But of course I knew there was going to be something sweet to balance it out later so I looked forward to that.

I was still pissed that he killed Thane!!! The swine!

Nothing was going to make me want revenge more than that and Shepard telling him that with an Omni-blade in his gut was much better than what happened on that planet with those blue smurfs on.

I suppose that was the point though, your not meant to "like" the bad guys and he did a job of making you dislike him , he was a good character with a graet style but he was just a bit under used and under developed to be called a great nemisis.

It was entirely scripted & cutscene'd, with no interaction from me that could have led to a different outcome. So no, I didn't "feel" anything although I could tell I was supposed to. It was irritating, sloppy & cheap.

hahahaha, I totally thought that, when the floor collapsed i was like "thats some crazy engineering" and yea, invulnerable gunship, invulnerable ninja, so out of place.

I thought this was really well done actually because it was an unfair defeat. It was one of those cases where you sat there thinking: if this had been a fair fight I'd kick your ass!

And that's perfect because it angers you, which it's meant to because when you do fight him properly it feels so good.

I never really cared about Kai Leng. He's the human version of the "Giant Space Flea from Nowhere."

Not relevant to the plot, not developed as a character, appears only in the EU (which nine out of ten people ignore anyway) and just appears out of nowhere to undermine you.

I didn't. Not one bit. I suppose the purpose of that contrived cut-scene was to make you feel that you (as Shepard) aren't invincible. But what I felt was that Kai Leng, nearly dying at my hands on Thessia (Yep, only 2-3 health bars were left before the cut scene) pulled off a 'Oh my, this guy is gonna kill me, time to bring in the gunship' and then stupidly bragged about it. Funnily enough, the crew tries to console Shepard not to take it too hard, but I the player, never felt it. Did you not feel it too or you think it was orchestrated well?

A squadmate should have died. Then it would hurt. Otherwise it was just kinda sad. But after seeing Palaven as a smoking ember and there STILL being fighting on its surface the loss of Thessia didn't seem that final. The opening on Earth was more emotional.

Only problem was with the transition from gameplay to cutscene. The Arrival DLC had a moment where you had to lose and the triggers for the cutscene were your health being lowered and you manage to survive for a few minutes until you are knocked out by a beam.

Agreed, OP.

Cheap plot-forced defeat was cheap. How is it Shep can take on a whole team of mercs/assassins AND a gunship in ME2, but Kai Leng is THISCLOSE to being a pile of pulp and he gets away, boasting? I did think it was funny when Leng and my TMs told me shooting at the gunship wasn't going to do anything, lol.

I felt it, but then I took Shepard's depression and everyone's condolences as "I'm so sorry you had to get fake gibbed by that chump. Don't worry we all know that if it weren't staged you would have totally kicked ***."

Yup he served no purpose that couldn't have easily been filled by other character, had no personality and looked like the winner of the 'design a generic space badass' contest.

That whole scene was pisspoor writing.

"The bad guy defeats you in a cutscene! H AHAHAA HE IS TEH POWERFUL!"

Not to mention that I've already killed like four or five gunships in ME so far, most of them in a matter of 20 to 30 seconds. So I couldn't destroy Kai-Leng's gunship? Oh wait, I forget... it was shining a bright light in my face that was immune to bullet fire.

I guess Shepard is no match for the power of a bright light. He's a Gremlin.

This and the ending were just absolute TURDS of writing.
