Japanese Role Playing Game and Computer Role Playing Game (often meant as a Western Role Playing Game).DaeFaron wrote...
Okay....****** question.
What does JRPG and CRPG stand for? Clearly something-role playing game.

So is FF13 going to be another coming of age tale featuring an angst-ridden teenager conflicted with the desire to break free from parental/societal control and gain greater independence, while at the same time suffering separation anxiety issues at the loss of a parent/central authority figure?
You forgot the part of the guy who threatens to destroy the world for the lulz.

If you have an xbox 360, why bother? The new FF game is going to be available for both systems.
I don't have one of those either. And I prefer the PS3, and since FFXIII was originally targetted at the PS3 chances are it'll look better on its "native" platform.

look at the trailers of it on your Playstation 3 or Xbox 360...the summonings transform this time when you use them like transformers!!!
And that means I'll never get FF13.

Both games (will) have their flaws, that's certain though I tend to like Final Fantasy's stories more than those of most other games, even if I don't like the direction the franchise is taking.
That said. I'm not sure. I fear they may have gone down the road of the abomination (haha, get it?) that was XII and aside from that game, none in the series has let me down so far, I liked them all, even if some more than others.. much more.
There is one thing I know already though. I will like the setting of Final Fantasy XIII more. I'm not a fan of medieval times and the futuristic setting means funkier armors and weaponry... well, judging from previous entries in the series, mostly weaponry.
And optional (real) superbosses. And how! Oh, how I love them.
At the end of the day though, I'm probably looking forward more to Final Fantasy Versus XIII, since the guys from Kingdom Hearts have their fingers in it.

You can't really compare CRPG to JRPG.

FF13 looks amazing. Finally coming back to Turn-based.
It's not turned-based.
The JP version comes out this December if you plan to import it.
NA comes out March 9, 2010.

Then choosing PS3 is a good idea.
At least now when you pick up a PS3 you can get it cheaper, and in the slim version. My sister got the biger, expensive one for her birthday and then like 2 months later the slim one was realeased for $100 less.
I still like my xbox 360 (and I own a crap tv so even with a ps3, graphics aren't different, at least that I can tell).

FF13 comes out December for Japan but March for Europe and North America.Beertastic wrote...
Considering the fact I haven't played it yet (the release is still Dec. 15th isn't it?), I have to say DA:O. Not only because it's what I've played so far, but I'm a huge Bioware/CRPG fan (this is coming from someone whose favorite RPG of all time is Final Fantasy VIII though, so I'm not anti-JRPG at all).
I know I'll love FF13 regardless, I love Final Fantasy, but I haven't played one since 10, which means I have no experience with their new combat system.

Well what do you think is better and why?
People are obviously different. I think Dragon Age is much better. Why? I don't like jRPG at all. Not even Square Enix, though I must admit they're hi quality. I want as much personal say about the "story" as possible. That's why I like western RPGs better.
Having seen some of your other posts, I think you might like FF13 better. People are different, that's all.

JRPG sounds like a disparaging, dismissive term to me, like "jpop". It fails to observe the originality in those games and some of the observations of what characterises the "JRPG" sound superficial to me (like "teenage angst"--you failed to see 98% of the game if that's all you saw). They're certainly not as stereotypical and unoriginal as the "CRPG" that has its roots in high fantasy which in turn has its roots in Tolkien, and that's to their credit.
Meh. In my opinion, both JRPG and CRPG (first time I saw this term, but I'm assuming you mean European-style) both have a tendency to stick with what they think works and because of this trend to me all seem unoriginal as confined to the creative region in which it was created. It just means that the whole world afraid to be creative outside of it's routine culture. The Ironic part being, everyone wants a change but thinks everyone else should do it first.

That's because there is no originality to be observed.
