I really like the turn-based combat of Final Fantasy. it gives you a little more time to think about what to do next. in Dragon Age so much is happening on the screen that I usually don't notice all of it. but I do wish Final Fantasy XIII would have choices like Bioware games. if you could direct Lightning on what to do and say like Commander Shepard, it would add a lot of replay value to the game

I know what you mean about turn based systems (X was my favorite I think) but FF is moving away from that now, too. In fact, the battles in FFXII and DA:O are not complete dissimilar, if you ask me. XIII seems to be moving even further in that direction.

I can't stand turn based combat like FF in an RPG... *Shudders*

Way too boring for me, I like my combat more real time (Which is why I loved Mass Effect). Stopping and pausing is fun, but the more real time, the better.

Because Final Fantasy 13 has already been released in NA, EU, and Australia.. *rolls eyes* Need we compare to a game that most of us haven't played yet?

I love this, especially when dao borrowed a lot of it's combat from ff12.  You prob never played it, but it's true.

FF series turned into epic fail the moment they became console only (yes, I am aware of FF MMO, I am talking about single player games).

True. But I thought it was a huge and positive step forward when FF7 hit PC market. They continued the trend with FF8 and I was literally in heaven, because those games were the best RPGs I played (for that time). Imagine my surprise when I found that FF9 was console only (I despise consoles and refuse to buy one). Then FFX game and it was console only too. Now there's FF13 on the horizon and they STILL refuse to make a PC version.

Because FF sales on PC were comparatively poor. FF is and has always been a console franchise...FF7 and 8 ports were (failed) experiments.

The FF7/FF8 pc versions are just cruddy ports. Personally I am looking forward to FFXIII - need a PS3 first though :P. Loved all of the other Final Fantasys - especially 9.

I haven't played a final fantasy since the first one that came out on the PS2 (never owned the console).  I can't remember if that was 8 or 9.

For some reason I didn't really like 7.  Six (or three) was the only one I actually enjoyed.

The next Final Fantasy will probably be a lot of fun, at least in regards to gameplay, graphics and exploration, etc.

As for story, it'll probably be just as weak as every other Final Fantasy game. Some blonde haired orphan, a shy priestess type healer, some emotionally dead sword 'n board type of guy, a hideously annoying Riku or Penelo replacement, and some kind of "fun/idiotic" Wakka replacement.

Or just variations on the above. Really they do not get that deep.

Yep,I already know what I will get with Final fantasy XIII.

Tried and true FF gameplay(return to turn based combat).Top notch production values, lot's of grinding and optional bosses+weapons.Open space does seems similar to Final fantasy XIV,so it should retain some elements of a mmorpg(big zone between the main story locations).

The story will probably be as bad as usual,or on par with FF VIII and the newer titles(although it seems even more juvenile than usual and massively overdramatic).I do not play FF for the story however, but because of the great production value and the over the top spells+attacks+massive bosses.Love or hate jrpg, you got to admit that they come up with unique artstyle, clothes and monsters(especially FF which is slightly different from the standard anime based jrpg). It's good to see something else than generic western artstyle from time to time.

I personaly always liked FFs stories a lot. Especially those of FFIV and FFVI. FFVII was my first one and FFX had a great story. I know they get repeated in terms of characters and story settings and plot, but that doesn't mean the story is bad. See DA: O, generic setting, but great story. But maybe on Bioware forums where most people play mainly CRPGs, the point of view is different. But to be honest the current story info of FFXIII is confusing, I doubt its forte will be the story.

Actually FFXIII returns back to the Active Time Battle system, but dynamic. It's hard to explain so here is a vid of the japanese demo www.youtube.com/watch. Only bad thing is that you control only one character directly :(

It's impossible to compare them until FFXIII actually comes out. I love DA:O and I'll hopefully love FFXIII too.
