I have been reading alot on here how the soldier class is irrevelant and that you can't use it effectively on gold or silver. Honestly, I think its because people don't realize how to level it up to give it maximum effectiveness.

You have to use the soldier to power up strong weapons. I term it as "AR SPAM" you focus on constantly using Adrenline Rush to give you maximum fire power for your weapon of choice. If leveled correctly you will do 92.5% bonus damage with your weapon.

On my layout I use a Geth Plasma Shotgun III with a Level 5 Capactiy (it gives it 27 spare rounds, so I don't have to run to ammo boxes or use thermal clips every 5 seconds), and a Level 5 High caliber barrel for 25% more damage as well. This means when I have AR active I will have 117.5% bonus damage. Not to mention you can still charge the gun for even more damage :D

Here is my power layout (I am only showing from level 4 -6):

AR - Damage, Duration, and Shield Boost
(It is important note that shield boost is very effective, esp when you active AR while already taking damage. It will instantly increase your shield by 50% and can give you a tank like feature if used properly.)

Frag - Damage, Max Grenades, Armor-Piercing

Alliance Training - Weapon Damage, Power Damage, Weapon Damage,
(You might be thinking why do power damage instead of headshot bonus. As I mentioned I use the Geth Shotgun which to my knowledge doesn't register headshots. also with the power damage it will increase your grenade damage to 1050.)

Fitness - Durability, Shield Recharge, Fitness Expert
(This layout is to make you have 825 health and shield, and also increase the speed in which you recharge your shield)

I don't play alot on gold because most people don't think a soldier can help win. But I have have had alot of success on all difficulties. Against the Reapers 2-3 Fully Charge Shots and AR active at least once will take a Brute by yourself on Silver Difficulty.

Hope this helps those who want to use the Soldier class more. I know it enjoy it.

EDIT 04/03/12:

I was actually going to do that today when I get home. I love using the GPS, but I am thinking I will use my Talon or Carnifex and an Assult Rifle both with armor piericing mods. I was going to do this layout for powers (showing levels 4-6):

AR - Hardening, Duration, Shield Boost
(I still would use shield boost, but with this set up AR would be more of a defensive move to replensive half your shield and get to safety and a 25% damage reduction, but you could still do some serious weapon damage while AR is active 45% weapon damage bonus)

CS - Force & Damage, Shatter, Shedder
(This is my prefered set up, but I haven't made up my mind for Shatter or Recharge Speed. I will need to see how quick CS will recharge once I have everything else leveled up accordingly.)

Training - Damage & Capacity, Power Damamge, Weapon Weight.
(With
This set up I may still be able use my GPS, but I want to play around
with what weapon(s) I use as I want to be able to spam CS)

Fitness - Durability, Shield Recharge, Fitness Expert

This might even fit my play style better than my current set up. Posted Image

Well it's not efficient.

If you're wanting to get through gold as fast and quickly as possible, which I prefer to do at all times until I unlock everything.

People who say the Soldier sucks are often power spammers who are use to throwing up all kinds of powers to protect themselves, Soldiers an offensive class in which Cooldown ain't the biggest concern IMO, I tend to roll with my Human Soldier rolling with a Saber or Revenant along w/ Eviscerator or Claymore because again Cooldown don't mean **** when your Concussive Shot cooldown is like 2 secs

Problem with soldiers is that they're the most equipment-dependant. Now that I have my revenant sufficiently leveled (6 or 7), I'm starting to enjoy my turian, humans are still meh, while krogan is.. well, it's a krogan!

I almost always finish in the top 2. The key to beating missions especially on gold is just to work as a unit, stay together, and understand its ok to use cover. As long as your not trying to be a lone gun you wont die much if at all.

On my note about killing a brute on Silver. I don't use any equipment modifiers on Silver.

Thats 2-3 shots for a brute without any equipment boost. I only use equipment on Gold, and sometimes not even then.

You're not understanding what I mean. If you're on xbox add Ballzy Magee.

You will not be top 2 and you will get through gold in ~20 minutes. Most people know about it by now, but I don't want to harp on about it.

As for the 4 vanguard gold.....again not efficient

Oops, I meant weapon-dependant, tho I suppose equipment is appropriate to a lesser extent too. I generally don't use consumables either, because I don't know what group I'm getting into lag-wise or other. I only use equipments if the same group sticks together for more runs, but that's very rare.

I've yet to bring my soldier to gold, it's considerably harder even on silver for me. :/

Yeah, it was for me at first 2. And then it realized concussive shot is pretty useless for the way I play. So I just don't use it at all.

Only soldier class I play is Krogan.

0/6 Fortification
6/6 Carnage
6/6 Inferno Grenade
6/6 Krogan Beserker (Weight increase, power increase and shotgun weight decrease)
6/6 Rage (Health all the way)

With my VII Geth Shotgun and Carnage artilley barrage and I can do very well, yet to test him properly on Gold though.

I don't know. I used to have love for the Soldier in the previous Mass Effect's, but in the multiplayer he seems .. irrelevant. Did a run the other night with three friends, all playing Soldier. We finished Firebase Ghost vs Reapers Gold in 17 minutes - but had a whole lot of deaths just because surviving with the Soldier can be a b*tch as compared to any other class.

While I hear what you are trying to say, and I WANT to like my Krogan Soldier for gold... I just don't. I have fun with him on Silver, but when I play Gold I have to either bring Turian Sentinel or Salarian Engineer.

Not because my team is complaining (although tbh I'd guess I'd get kicked right away if I brought a krogan soldier) but because I find that Overload/Energy Chain spam is MUCH more effective at keeping people alive than anything my Soldiers can do.

Running at 20 with the Sentinel and just an Avenger X I almost never die... even on gold, and my squad stays up longer too, same with Engineer. I've *heard* the same thing about Asari Adepts, but mine dies in 1 shot so I don't have the patience for gold with her.

I really like playing my Krogan Soldier (honestly probably my favorite MP character), but I keep it for Silver. Something just satisfying about a full Geth Shotty Charge/Carnage/Heavy Melee burst almost killing a Brute from full health.

This is the gold build, IMO (well, it's at least "decent" on gold, compared to most)

I have a Graal VII, and while it doesn't have homing projectiles, you can easily land a headshot on anyone staggered by carnage for and instant kill at up to medium range (barrel+choke recommended). My build is almost the same, except I took the headshot bonus, since it synergizes with my weapon better.
Inferno grenade sucks though, but still better then fortification, which screws with my precious carnage cd.
Damage is not as good as a well-equipped SI, but it has the advantage of bypassing the shield barrier on gold...

Made this build just to use my Graal, which is the most badass shotgun in the game. Seriously, who doesn't love popping heads with big-ass nails? :D

Sounds cool. I will have to try this.

I DO have one interesting build with the Turian Soldier which isn't exactly common aka Revenant build. For now its my go-to class on Silver.

I want to try it out on Gold since its so powerful (a little too powerful) on Silver but I'm afraid I'll just be kicked out.

Only reason I haven't picked up headshot, is because I don't think the Geth Shotgun can headshot?  Probably just me, but the fact it seeks it targets seem to avoid headshots.  This is mainly from my experience playing Vanguard in SP, cause although Geth Shotgun was ment to do more damage, my Wraith would one shot most targets to the head, were the Geth Shotgun would do half the damage.

I've been rather unlucky with the Graal, only like III at the moment, so it's considerably heavier.

Care to share the build with the rest of us. Soldier is my favorite class, so I am always looking for new builds.

The sentinel class can do just about everything better than the soldier class.

the only exception being the Turian soldier armed with a Talon and the appropriate accuracy upgrades. Best non-infiltrator sniper setup

The soldier is kind of....sub-par compared to other classes though BUT! it is pretty darn fun to use with a sniper rifle like a Widow or Mantis, using AR for an instant reload, man its satisfying putting down basically any enemy like that on silver...*romantic sigh*

Nothing will ever beat popping heads with big-ass spikes! MMRRRAAAAAAAHHH!
(carnage is not optional, unless you want to miss all the time. mraaah.)

AR could be neat with a Graal's high refire rate, already big damage and slow reload speed.

So Soldiers in our MP are like Warriors in WoW. For those that are familiar with that game, they're also the most gear-dependant class and don't perform well without the right equipment.

No wonder I like the soldier so much, I play a Warrior in WoW.
