This month's challenge is "Folk Tales & Myths"

Fairy tale theme. From our favorites to obscure lore, no limits on this.
Could be expanded to include actual fairies and monsters from myth. Jabberwocky anyone? While traditional european faerie tales are the focus of this challenge, a wider interpretation is welcome.
For example drawing inspiration from modern works such as Alice In Wonderland, or the Wizard of Oz is not only appropriate but encouraged.

This theme was suggested by Jenna WSI

Once again, the possibilities for content types are pretty open; NPCs, Creatures, Items, Tiles, Effects, Animations, Sounds & Scripts.

Guidelines:
  • It must be fully working in game.
  • Use of vanilla NWN or publicly available texture is fine, though state-of-the-art amateur's work would require 100% original work, but that's up to you.
  • Teamwork is welcome.
  • Beginners most welcome, don't be afraid, just try, you'll be surprised!
  • All submissions must be finished, working, and emailed to me (NWNCCCMakers @ gmail.com) or a non-Vault link provided by April 2nd, 2012 (which is a Monday) at 10 AM EST. Sooner than that is perfectly fine too. ;-)
Some things you could include in the download/email that would make packaging everything up easier and faster (otherwise I will just pester you with questions!):
  • 2da lines needed.
  • Screenshot *from in game* for use on the vault page (this also gives me hints on how to display the new goodie).
  • Portraits (if needed) of your new goodie. ** Placeables and monsters should include a portrait. **
  • Inventory icons (if needed) of your new goodie.
  • Any credits you would like listed.
  • If this is your first entry, please tell me what name you would like your work listed under and provide a link to your other NWN content if you want that displayed as well (the link bit is totally optional).
  • Also if you would like an invite to the CC Makers group, send Rolo Kipp a friend invite. The group is nothing spectacular, mostly just documentation on 2da lines.
  • If you are doing tileset content, *please* let me know ahead of time so I can get you the set and itp files to work with. I’m horrible at merging those so this bit you will need to provide.
Remember, the Challenge is all about fun, sharing, creativity and surprise!
If you have concerns/questions about this month’s Challenge please post in this thread.

If you want to discuss the Monthly Custom Content Challenge idea as a whole or wish to submit ideas/themes for future monthly Challenges, please post in its thread here
***When submitting a new theme, please provide a title and short summary of the theme.***

If you have a technical question about some custom content creation, please create a separate thread so that the answers can be found later by anyone, not just people interested in this Challenge. We'll try to help!

Have no fear and join the fun!

And finally, you can:
vote for May's theme. The voting dead line is May 1st, 2012 at 8 AM EST.
Submit theme suggestions

Well now. I've been thinkin' o' doin' an update ta Baba Yaga's hut. A creature/placeable combo that may or may not work so well.

We'll see.

Anyone up ta doin' thet skull mortor or thet flyin' Cauldron (scroll down to cauldron)?

For the hut to start, just focus on it as a creature. You can give it a conversation and have the players negotiate to go inside.

Some of the unusual animations could be used for appropriate situations:
the hut sits to allow entry. Door open. Door closed. to name a few.

With scripting I've tried many instances of creature-to-placeable and back again similar to the gargoyle, and its not always convincing. One of the tricks is to make the transition seamless. And that ain't easy. (perhaps appear and disappear could be used in tandem with both of the items, but thats a lot of work to pull off in one month) However if a creature had the right animations, conversation file, and scripting... you could work around the issues with the hut fairly well.

I've wanted this in NWN for a very long time. I'd offer to help with the scripting/conversation, but I'm lost in Arnheim at the moment.

Here is an Spanish creepy legend: just in case some one find it interesting The "Santa Compaña"

Many different versions of the "Santa Compaña" can be found in any bibliography, and that is probably why it is so difficult to define it with precision. However, there are a number of features mentioned by all authors: a procession of the dead or souls in torment wander the path of a parish at midnight. A living person carrying a cross and a cauldron of holy water leads the procession followed by all the souls with lit candles, although not always seen, the smell of wax and the breeze which appears when they pass warn of their presence. The person carrying the cross must never turn around or renounce his duty in leading the Santa Compaña; he can only be freed from his duty if he manages to find another person to carry the cross and the cauldron. To avoid this obligation the person who sees the Santa Compaña pass by must draw a circle on the ground and enter it, or he can also lie face-down. Other ways to evade Santa Compaña is to tie a black cat in the middle of Santa Compaña and run away from it, or realize diverse symbols with both hands as a horn gesture (extending the index and little fingers and to contract the rest of fingers) or the fig sign (which consists of closing the fist and putting the thumb between the index and middle fingers). The person leading the procession can be a man or a woman—this all depends on whether the patron saint of the parish is male or female. To conclude, the Santa Compaña is an announcer of death, its one mission is to visit the homes where death is due.

If some one of you are interested in that and also are able to read Spanish; I'll suggested to read the Spanish article in Wiki, it have more information...

Maybe if I have the time I'll make the mountain giant Rübezahl

I'd like that, Zwerkules. More giant models that look like individual personalities rather than generic giants is much needed.

I have some new CEP brownie heads what I had made for my modules. Are they adequate for this challenge?

Actually one of my brownie heads is for a Redcap.

Here are all of my new Brownie heads; All of them apart from the Imp one were made from creatures in the NWNVault.

I have also versions of some of the heads for halfings and gnomes...

 <watching carefully...>

@ Jenna: That second pic is a wicked, wicked red-cap... I like!

@ Shemsu: Brownie heads certainly fit the theme, though I personally am a bit weirded out by those tiny clown heads. <odd, when you consider what a clown you are>
I'm not arguing with you, bird. Just saying.

Shemsu, you have good taste. I think that second head of yours was made by Paganini.

@Rolo: Well, I had made the clown and jester heads, for my Ravenloft module; In order to use the dynamic brownie race, for the "Carrionettes" (Ravenloft creature).

But don't worry if they aren't adequate for this content I'll avoid to add them; Shouldn't I add the Imp head too?
