She was a marginal character, so why do people care so much?.

Because her performance is so poor it makes you question why she is in the game at all.

Given she is only well known enough to be "stunt-cast" due to working for IGN, the answers aren't appealing.

I just don't really get what do people want with her VA. Yeah, there might be better people for it, but I hadn't really any problems with her acting. As for her character, it's just some addition, and every addition is good.

I disagree. Casper was not a good addition. "Every addition is good", haha.... if only the world worked that way.

I looked for some photos of her after seeing her in game - she looks much better in real life. So I do feel sorry for her if people get the idea that the in-game model is what she really looks like.

Which is bizarre, because normally that goes the other way around. Yvonne Strahovski (sp?) even said in an interview that Miranda is a somewhat idealized version of herself. And Yvonne definitely doesn't need the help.

I'm not a fan of her and dislike her appearance in the game.... HOWEVER, I acknowledge the fact that Bioware obviously didn't give her good direction in regards to her VA work and the actual character model. She looked like a chipmunk. All her lines were poorly read, and the VA director should have tried to modify or encourage her to do a better job. I find it hard to believe that she just 100% sucked. We are all capable of conveying some emotion in line delivery, despite not being professional VA's.

No, no sorrow for Chobot. The VA performance was sub-par and so was the model & writing for it. Because seriously, there was some stupid writing for her.

You could have put Super Grover in her place and I would have been more impressed and happy.

Would have preferred Emily Wong just for the established character and potential pre-ME3 import references, but I wasn't desperately disappointed to have a new reporter/character introduced for the minor role.

Chobot's performance was pretty dire though.

I don't think Chobot is "talentless" or anything like that. I do think it was a creative mistake not to have one of the known reporters in game [like Emily Wong or Ms. Al Jilane (sp??)] take her spot. Basically we already have connections to the existing reporters so we don't need a new one.

While it shouldn't be relevant the in-game model just didn't strike me as "news reporter" as opposed to something else less dignified.

She was eye candy, not very interesting but more is always better. She had no impact on the story really, sort of an easter egg.

I always checked in with here if she had anything to say, most of it was just short retelling of what just happend, but still. She is nothing to complain about at all, I would rather have her in the game than not in the game.

Yeah, this right here. Diana was probably one of the, if not THE, most worthless character in the game. And the hate for Chobot mostly comes from 1, her lack of talent and 2, her affiliation with IGN as someone said earlier. But hey, I really don't mind her. People are gonna have opinions either way

I'm personally just directing all my anger towards Diana Allers, if she wasn't so useless, then maybe Jessica Chobots wouldn't be getting as much grief as she been getting, I'm not actually bothered by the VA at all.

She really was pretty useless, which is a shame since she is one of the first war assets you can pick up.  They could have done so much more with having a reporter on the Normandy. :/

I was like "Yay that was easy getting a new squadmate!!!" to "What, where is she? Where did she go? Why isn't she in the squadmate choice menu" to "Oh she's completely useless".

She would have been perfect to get right into the live action, her robot camera taking video as she's shooting some husks with a pistol. Seriously, why they didn't do more with her, I just don't know.

98% of the time trying to talk to her simply gets a "do we need to talk" query and the responses available are simply "NOT RIGHT NOW" or "Get OFF MY SHIP", I quickly decided to forget that she was around. If her presence didn't provide a tangible war asset, I wouldn't bother to invite her onto the Normandy (and I haven't even completed a second playthrough).

Nope.

She's like the captain of the Titanic. Doesn't matter how good of a job they thought they were doing. That ship went down.

Nope.
She is not a gamer.
She is not a nerd.
She is not a geek.
She is just someone putting herself out there in the gaming community like Olivia Munn [who is also not a nerd or gamer] that used nerd appeal to become famous to get into acting/modeling.

Her assets are worth jack nothing.

i am so glad she ends up dead after you kick her off the ship/don't recruit her.
Makes me wonder if you threw her out airlock.

Personally I could have cared less about her character, although my femshep let her on the ship and Allers proposistions her pretty quickly into the game which was a little weird. Otherwise, she's take it or leave it for me. Oh yeah except for that interesting appearance of conflict of interest when the disinterested reviewing party has a vested interest in the game. Good thing I realize IGN is crap.

Nope. She performed miserably. I hate Khalisah ben Sinan al Jilani, but I would prefer her onboard the Normandy. At least Khalisah has the "certain something" Chobot character lacks.

In fairness, this is all on Bioware. Be honest. If you were in Chobot's position and Bioware offered to give you a character that gets to join Shepard on the ship... who. would. say. no? I, for one, would jump on it. (And then be horribly embarrassed by how awful I did)

Again, in regard to direction: THEY GAVE HER NONE.  They have so many VA's on board that I'm sure the VA director could tell right off the bat that Chobot's recorded lines were subpar.  Why not re-record them?  Why no re-do them?  Why not give her more tips or advice?  It was just stupid.   The entire thing.

I don't get what is wrong with her at all. I don't think Jessica did a bad job nor do I not like allers. Still would have prefered Wong or the other one I always punch.

Chobot used nerd appeal to get that spot.
looks like her using the fans for appeal is stabbing her in the side and thank god for that.
She will eventually move onto to other things like olivia munn.
Another fake gamer/nerdy chick

I don't hate Diana Allers as a character, but I was disappointed with the wasted potential of story development with having an embedded war journalist on Normandy.

Think of the possibilities in dramas - Allers wants to cover footages of orphan refugee children, and a paragon Shepard has issues about Allers interviewing traumatised children about their experiences of conflict (which, if you are an academic or a journalist, there is a whole lot of ethics protocols with interviewing vulnerable groups such as children), etc. But no, Allers is limited to meaningless dialogues with Samantha, and a silly attempt at hitting on Shepard (WITH THE VIDEO CAMERA!!!).

I agree with this. Would have been a great way to introduce some side missions is nothing else.

that would have been great, punch her again then ask her to be embedded reporter, constant bickering constant fighting make her walk the plank.

The OP is either the most sarcastic thing I've read here in a while or the most backhanded compliment about doing her best she's ever likely to hear. She was basically more a marketing stunt than a proper effort at casting a voice actress. Then there's the fact many saw her taking the place of the more popular Emily Wong. All this was before the added hate directed toward IGN and by extension its employee.

Does she deserve the grief shes getting? Sadly for her yes. The moment she agreed to do it she knew her role would fall under scrutiny. Especially from the internet masses. It's not the worst acting by a long ways I've ever witnessed but it does fall short of the excellent voice acting surrounding her.

All else being equal, I'm neutral about them adding her as a character.

Of course, all else isn't equal - I think it would have been MUCH better to take the time spent face and motion capturing her to create a model for unmasked quarians, especially Tali. The fact that they spent however many resources on Allers and failed to deliver a quarian is a major fail in my opinion.

The section showing the recordings of the interaction between the quarians and the first geth - they had to make up a pretty lame excuse for why the quarians were masked.

Not that I'm bitter.
