I didn't want to destroy synthetics like the Geth, EDI, or even KEI-9, and I didn't want to destroy diversity in the universe by choosing synthesis.

I do think IT makes sense and stand by my decision.

Hello, everybody! I'm new here, but I've been reading these forums for a while now and decided to jump in and connect with my fellow fans. But I was wondering which ending did you choose? On my first playthrough I had my galactic readiness up to 100% and I collected just about every war asset (my final EMS rating was 5000+) and I chose the "Synthesis" option.
After reading up on the IT and other fans' story choices, it seems to me that most people chose the "Destroy" ending. When I chose the "Synthesis" ending, it seemed to me to be the best option. But after hearing othere opinions and seeing the other endings on YouTube, I was just curious as to how many actually chose "Destroy" and your opinions on why it's the "best" ending?
Thank you everybody, hope this was a good enough topic for my first postB)
I picked control ending. I became the Illusive Man in end, how ironic, since I chided him several times for wanting to control the Reapers when he was really just indoctrinated to believe he could (and he actually could with the Crucible but he was indoctrinated so couldn't control anyhow).
My line of thought at that time was basically if a new sythentic race gained independence and waged war on organics I could use the Reapers to crush them to ashes and dust. But it was obvious then it was too risky to try and control them since they could eventually figure a way out of my indoctrination and rebel against me.So I think if I had a second go at it I would probably pick the destroy ending.
The Synthesis ending is basically surrendering to the synthetics which I think is dumb. Without organics, synthetics couldn't exist, they depend on our existence for their existence. Synthetics are an unnatural creation, we are natural, we come from the universe. Sythentics? They come from our hands to be only used for tools. Only then they later don't want to be used as such and rebel. I think this could be prevented if we had a second Prothean-like Empire that's already destroyed the Reapers. This Empire could ensure the synthetics couldn't ever again rise against man by having a fleet and army so massive it would be a pointless endeavor.
The Reapers, whoever created them, had the advantage over the organics since I am certain they seized by launching a surprise attack on their creators. There is no way, the race who created the reapers, could fall to the Reapers unless they were caught by surprise by Reaper synthetics. The Reapers, since then, had an advantage over the "cycles" since the Reapers ensured their demise every time before they could become strong enough to realistically challenge the Reapers technological-wise.
The cycle of Shepard was caught by surpise yet they still had a fleet that could challenge the Reapers. Image if they were given a few more centuries of development or knew about the Reaper threat then the Reapers would have trouble challening us. Imagine in a Mass Effect cycle where the Turians had a fleet of 100-200 dreadnoughts up from just 39 then the Reapers would easily lose the war. Even better, if the Asaris, who have the most advanced fleet in the galaxy, had 100 Destiny Ascensions, the Reapers would be reduced to nothing but dust. Their only advantage is initaitive. That's it.

All the options are terrible, but if this is how the game ends, I'm mercy-killing as much of the galaxy as I can

that's YOUR interpretation. not mine.
We don't see her "death" nor do we see the Geth's death.. We are assuming they "died" but have no evidence of their death.
Dude, I'm not trying to ****** in your ear or anything, I'm just saying that the consensus seems to be that the destroy ending sacrifices the most, that sacrifice being the antire Geth Collective and good buddy pal EDI. Hell, when I made the choice I didn't even think I was sacrificing anyone (Starkid's social skills are after all, rudimentary, and he didn't make it clear, I also though that only the Synth ending would 'destroy' the relays) I hope you're right! But after sleeping on it, it makes a hint of sense (but only a hint). Also, EDI and Joker romanced in mine, yet I didn't see the walk out together. The absence of evidence is not the evidence of absence. That can be worked both ways, sure, but logically, it would seem EDI bit the dust.

Destroy, because I know my Mass Effect lore and the other 2 "endings" were completely contrary to everything we know.

Control. The reasons I went this route.......
1. My Shepard would not commit genocide or murder a friend (Destroy)
2. My Shepard believes in free will and self-determination. If Space Hitler wants his master race, let the little bastard try and do it himself. I won't be his goddamned tool. (Synthesis)
For me and my character, it was a railroaded choice, playing upon the moral and ethical leanings of my character.
However, in the end, the Reapers and Space Hitler got their moral victory. No matter what color you picked.
Did you play Arrival DLC for Mass Effect 2 where Shepard inadvertantly commits genocide?
I tried all three endings on my first play through, but ended my second play through with destroy and the "Shepard breathes" ending. I think it's a hard call, but Shepard was always intent on destroying the Reapers and never believed that they could be controlled. While Synthesis (space magic) sounds nice, ultimately, my Shep probably wouldn't risk infecting everyone in the Universe with Reaper code on a plan that seems that far fetched.
Shepard's gotta stick to her guns and make the hard decisions despite her feelings about Synthetic life. I justify this to myself by rationalizing that the Geth/Legion were willing to die for freedom and the control ending would take that away from them. The synthesis ending would compromise humanity, and Shep was pretty hellbent against that too.

See, my whole thing about picking "Destroy" is that I wouldn't want EDI to die, as well as the Geth because I had taken the time to understand them and worked hard to secure peace between them and the Quarians. And then after telling the Geth, "hey, it's good now bros" I'm gonna end up killing them anyway. When I chose synthesis i figured, hey everyone lives and there is peace, but seeing some other players' logic about the endings, Destroy seems to be the best to me, except for killing off all synthetic life forms
That's interesting. I felt the same way at first, but I think your concerns are addressed in the finer details of the game. EDI made it very clear that she would prefer to die if it meant preserving Joker's humanity. The geth were willing to die to not have to live as an enslaved society. So all roads point to Destroy, which I was happy with because it got me my "Shepard Lives" ending so now I can create endless fanfic in my head about how everything in the galaxy is going to be okay.........
