I didn't want to be one of those people who hate vanguards

For example last night I was in a Silver game with a Level 20 Vanguard host. First of all he kept asking if we wanted to play solo? Whatever that means. Everyone said as a team and then he goes half way across the map to make sure he can kill enemies before we see them. Through the first 5 roudns he had a decent score, in fact the highest but he used up every single medigel and ops back by the 5th round. Then acted surprised when he died for the 5 time in 5 rounds. Even though I found him seriously on top of a data terminal he refused to use it or even stay by it to cover me. It was as if he did not even know what objectives were. Again, this is a level 20 character who only cared about getting a high level score through the first 5 rounds. I thought he was an idiot but thought whatever to myself as I let myself die without using my last medi gel. Then we get to score card and this guy starts saying "dank dank dank" and bragging about his high score. Who cares what your score is the first 5 rounds if you can't even get past them? Who cares about points when you are level 20? Why do you have no idea what objectives are or are just too greedy to help out them. Assuming one player (like me) will take it on himself to finish them. Giving you a higher score in the process.
Then he has the nerve to brag like he actually did something. If all this was not enough he has a very tasteful SN as while. (rpgupurass) What a class act.

The key difference is a Vanguard who charges a soft target or a target that nobody's attacking, and a Vanguard who waits for the team to open up before engaging. A Vanguard should be in the front line, but he should never be leading attacks.
Anything else is just Vantards.

Charge a group of enemies while staggering multiple at once, slip out of range asap, rinse & repeat.
Especially good when charging a warped target, as you set off a combo explosion at the same time.
Vanguards that blindly charge off solo are this game's version of a suicide bomber. Effective in the short term, but keep dying.

Correct, but ignorant people also play all of the other classes as well. Is it more evident with Vanguards? Sure. Sorry you had a bad experience, but not all Vanguards are bad.

True I am not saying I have not played with decent Vanguards. An Asari Vanguard who uses Stasis and Charge as a combo skills can be very helpful. I just think ignorant players are more drawn to the class then other classess. I am sure there are some Vanguards who are better then me out there somewhere. I just never play with them.

I had a classic the other day, a Vanguard (M/H) whose MO it was to melee everything, didn't carry a weapon. Went down at least 5 times a round on Bronze. Idiot.

But this is on PC. Is the Vanguard way more popular on the consoles? I can definitely see it being even more hard to use effectively on consoles, which might contribute to the overall failing. But still, all the whining and outrage about the class is utterly ridiculous.

Yeah I love vanguards who will charge endlessly when husks are around but hide on the other side of the map when a brute/banshee hits the field. And then brag about their score.
Because going into melee range against a banshee means you get gibbed, also brutes tend to interrupt you animations pulling you out of your invul. Yeah quickest way to die is by charging those two targets.

Pretty lame. Especially since I rezzed the entire team twice on ended up finishing one of the later waves on my own. Try and be friendly and helpful to people, it'll get you farther than saying a certain person, class, N7 level is useless.
If you're constantly having problems playing nice, it probably isn't the other guy...

See, I'm okay with that on Bronze. He just fancied a day being the Hulk, and found he couldn't.
As a proud M/H Vanguard in Silver levels (I leave it alone mostly on Gold - but when I do, it's very much being the team's medic and protection), folk who throw themselves into the impossible situations and fail to get out more than 3 times in a game deserve to be left to bleed out.
I can excuse 2-3 times - occasionally you get staggered and lag-stuck, and sometimes you just make a silly error. That's what medpacs are for.

Wait. ME3 was released on March 6th.... It hasn't even been one month yet. Unless you're counting the demo, which was still only released on February 14th, so I'd assume that that was the earliest point at which you could have begun playing. Either way, I don't think you've been playing for "months"...Rasputin17 wrote...

On topic, I don't mind Vanguards myself. Actually, I kinda love them if I'm playing as an Adept or Sentinel, as they have a strong tendency toward setting off biotic explosions for me. I use Warp/Reave/Singularity/Pull, they use Charge/Nova, and everybody wins. Now, mind you, some Vanguards like to rush off and try to play the lone wolf, often ignoring objectives completely. That bothers me as well, but I don't seem to meet many of them on Silver or Gold difficulty.

As has been said, ignorant people play all classes. Vanguards are just more noticeable by nature. Easier to notice a bad vanguard who is in the middle of the enemies than some bad "insert your class preference here" who is pew-pewing off in some corner.
Human Vanguards tend to be the more annoying class when played stupidly, simply because of the obnoxious screen shake.
My view is pretty simple: Silver is pretty easy to take with 2 people, so make sure at least one other person on your team is going to be decent. Don't do gold with a human vanny you do not personally know to be a team player.
Bronze doesn't matter, you can take bronze in your sleep with a level 1.
This is not srs bsns, people.

One must embrace and work with their Vanguard brothers and sisters, so that the asskickage will be doubled.
