I only really hate Human Vanguards, because of that goddamn obnoxious Nova spam the bad ones (which is 95% of them are) do.

Asari and Drell ones are much more tolerable, simply because they don't do that.

But seriously, how hard can it be for human vanguards to figure this out?

Vanguards are that class that pretty much every class-based game has. You know the one, the class that, when played well, is the absolute best one to have on your side, and when played poorly, is at best totally useless, at worst a detriment to the whole party. Now, this can be said of just about any class everywhere, but what sets Vanguards (and EQ Beastlords/Monks/Shamans, Saga Scoundrels, D&D Bards, etc.) apart is that they are VERY difficult to play well, and extremely easy to play poorly. The very low percent of truly good players are vastly outweighed by the bad players, and there are probably fewer mediocre players. You know the ones. . . the ones that make the class work, but don't quite use it to its fullest extent. In an average class, say, Adept or Soldier, there's, probably 20% bad players, 20% great players, 60% mediocre players. For Vanguards, the ratio is probably more like 10% great, 5% mediocre, 85% will-get-everyone-else-killed.

That chart goes to hell the moment it says "Join a random game".

Any Vanguard not hosting the game theirselves are terrible ;<

If you're terrible, it reroutes you to "get better or pick another class" eventually.

It's pretty hard to rag on guys who mostly just a) sit back and play with their combat drone, and B) run around with Tech Armor meleeing people.

That's extremely far down on the annoyance scale.

No. The problem is that, if you don't host, you have to be aware of the risks, and play accordingly.

When I didn't know how bad lag was for the Vanguard, I stood around pressing Y until I died. Then I understood. So I equipped myself with a ranged weapon that would help me kill things from afar, and only charge/nova things that are already close... etc.

All good Human Vanguards are Nova spammers

I have met several VERY annoying and obnoxious players playing Vanguards. Not that ALL of them are bad, some are very good. But there does seem to be a disproportionate number of jerks playing Vanguards over other classes. At least in the matches I end up in. :-/

Sad to hear, I always play my vanguard ( when I do) as a solder with biotics as support, a specialty soldier if you will.
I feel that is how the class should be played.

You forgot chain spam overload B)

Which actually brings me to my experience with what I like to call the One True Vanguard.
I'd like to hijack this thread for a minute or so, to thank the Human Vanguard who happened in to same group with me yesterday (I was the TS), together with Human Engineer and a Quarian Infiltrator. I have never seen anyone play Vanguard that well, he wrecked the place targetting overloaded and otherwise set up mobs, downing only once, despite pretty much holding elite mobs in one place on his own. It was also the fastest game of my life, mostly thanks to his relentless gaming and skills.

So while there is a lot of hatred towards Human Vanguards, with good reasons too, know good sir, that you are the shining example of what that class is cabable of, and the sole reason I shall always give every Vanguard a change to prove themselves, and I believe so should everyone else.

their probably people experimenting to see how to play the class, not everyone excels at every class, i know i often try different setups on my sentinels now and then as tbh, i suck at that class utterly, but i still try now and then tos ee if i can manage, then give up when i see myself underperforming vs my other preferred classes.

I will quote someone else saying: as vanguard is a high risk high reward class, it's easier to spot the bad ones.

Even if you play it supersafe, you can't guarantee it that you won't die. Things happen. And when they do, chances are that you are useless for the rest of the game.

I think too many Vanguards think that they are soldiers. You get in there, do damage, then get out of there when your shields are down. And don't biotic charge Atlases, Banshees, Brutes, Ravagers, etc.

I will also say that Vanguard was my first class that I ever played in the ME universe, and obviously with the ability to pause the game mid battle it's much more tactical than in MP where you're on the spot every second.

The main problem is I see Vanguards go Leroy Jenkins on high class enemies.  Like Phantoms who then proceed to one hit kill them...:?

I guess Vanguards are the only class that dies a lot? Ive been playing since the demo and as far as I can tell EVERY class has its fair share of idiots. Some Vanguards actually have decent skills. Stop labeling people, you sound ignorant.

This guy is correct. Be an example to your team. People will be stupid, this is MP.

If you can't handle the unwashed masses that play online, play single player.

I have seen Vanguards speedrun golds. They are part of the best current strategy for finishing in under 20 minutes. Vanguards have always been the class that is easiest to play on easy difficulties, and highly rewarding to play on high difficulty in the hands of someone with an ounce of tactical knowledge.

Charge goes in, Nova comes out, you can't explain that.
