This might get a little long, so consider this an in advanced apology.

Let me start off by saying that Mass Effect 3 is an amazing game. BioWare was certainly at their best with it.  It concluded the big side plots seamlessly regardless of past choice combinations. They tweaked combat again, adding in other minor elements, the blending in of cut scenes into the action was seamless and the writing was fantastic. All the voice acting was top notch, the story was emotional, heartfelt, funny and painful, sometimes at the same time! They even added good multiplayer, which I’m completely enjoying. The game rocks, it’s fantastic.

However, I’m upset.

It certainly isn’t about the way it concluded, because I don’t think it did. I feel I was left hanging intentional. Like BioWare purposely didn’t give us an entire game and this upset me, and still does. I don’t think there was any oversight at BioWare, or all of sudden the writing team dropped the ball. BioWare is a studio full of very talented and intelligent people; which means they had a very clear and defined path of action.

Currently, I feel like a part of the Mass Effect 3 overall plan is to “heavily suggest” DLC onto the ME community as it will be needed to conclude the story.

This is what (at first, before finishing the current content) slightly bothered me about the From Ashes DLC. Sure, I didn’t need it to play the game, but it certainly added more depth and knowledge about a main underlying mystery of the Mass Effect universe. I’m happy I got, but after completing the story to date, I find it may be the beginning of a troubling ride.

I felt the DLC of Mass Effect 2, wasn’t really needed for the game; though you could argue that the Arrival DLC was the “real” ending to Mass Effect 2. For the most part, the DLC was excellent for ME2; I would highly suggest Overlord and Liar of the Shadow Broker to anyone who hasn’t played them. The key here is I never felt I had to buy them, but I wanted to.

I felt that I needed to get From Ashes, and whatever the upcoming DLC is. I have this bad feeling that its next act of the story and it may not be the final act either.  Will I get it, I would love to say no, but most likely will. Will I buy another BioWare game in the future, most likely not?

I certainly do not want to get invested into another story where DLC feels forced from a company whose priorities have seemed to change, and this isn’t just about BioWare, because unfortunately this seems to becoming the norm for most.

People and companies judge themselves on their intentions; however people judge them on their actions. Currently, these two things don’t seem to be lining up for BioWare.

Thanks for the rant, I feel a bit better.

In conclusion: BioWare, I’m still upset and I’m not sure if our relationship will continue. You lost my loyalty as a customer.
